Hey guys,

Not sure if any of you caught this. I saw it last night (it was either on FX or AMC yesterday evening). It's a commercal for the Cadenza, but with a surprise little teaser at the end. It doesn't give us any info, BUT it does hint heavily towards a big advertising push in the very near future for the Stinger in the US. I figured some of you might find it interesting. Link to the advertisement below.

Pretty cool... I do hope they get the marketing right for the Stinger. Marketing is so important and people need to see this car...

Looks like the beginning of a series of ads. Definitely a good hype build up.

Love the hype in that ad, and the hits towards BMW. I have chills...

It was on during Sunday Night Football. Not exactly a "cheap" time slot. Might be a "big money" push coming soon.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I saw a new ad for the Sorento , similar set up a guy driving a Lexus SUV on a desert road and then out of the corner of his eye the new Sorento comes roaring across the desert and crosses the road directly in front of him and keeps going , so must be a cohesive creative strategy for their premium vehicles ?? It'll certainly get the Bimmerheads talking poop !

Well they have consistently had ads during the superbowl so hopefully they'll put good money and effort into the Stinger.

Sorry, but as much as I like the Stinger, I'm not going to accept comparing a Cadenza to a BMW. More reliable, sure, but not even on the same planet in terms of driving.

Fair enough mate. I wouldn’t put a BMW in the same category as a Kia either. There’s just no comparison. BMW has an awful lot of work to do to get up to the level of Kia!

Agree. The FWD Cadenza goes after Buick and Lexus.... not the RWD Germans.

I didn't say anything but I felt a little odd about that part of the commercial as well. I mean - Cadenza vs what? A 7-Series or 5-Series? Come on. It reminded me of the old Cadillac commercial where the Mercedes 500SL taxi cab gets passed-up by an Allante. It's so embarrassing I think they must have sued to have every version of the commercial removed from YouTube. :p

I have a different take on the spot , for most "BMW" drivers they rarely come close to challenging the driving dynamics of their cars , and if they did they might not even know what they were experiencing . The majority of driving is under pretty behaved circumstances . The softer , smoother driving style of the Cadenza is a very comfortable experience and given pricing , a fantastic value .From a luxury and feature perspective the Cadenza is on par with a loaded 5 series . Kia is trying to give German buyers a reason to consider their top models and I think this spot might be enough to get some of the current BMW buyers to take a test drive and to challenge peoples perceptions of the brand . I bought a Sorento SX V6 after several BMW's including X5 and X6 ................I dont feel that I left a lot on the table and saved about $25K and I'm too old to care about brand status after 2 BMW lemons and dozens of reliablity issues . Quality and Reliability ( With great design ) will become the new sexy !

You have a point there especially considering how BMW has softened up lately. I haven't been in a new Cadenza but I liked the previous generation quite a bit. I have to imagine the new one is nicer. So feature-wise -- the Cadenza really does stack up against a loaded 5-Series?

Its a really solid car , my dealer gave me a new loaner a few weeks back and I can assure you that city driving and highway driving was great , and I've owned a 535I, 550 I and M5 . I would happily drive the new Cadenza ..............the Stinger experiment will also give Kia the ability to tune a Sport or GT version to make the car a dead ringer from a driving dynamics perspective

Going to politely disagree with you here. Most BMW drivers buy into the brand largely because of the driving dynamics, and you don't need to be at a track or under some extreme circumstances to see the enormous difference between a balanced RWD car with a firm suspension and a 60/40 FWD car tuned for comfort. The difference in understeer and body roll is huge. Even turning into the streets in my neighborhood and doing well within the speed limit, I can see how much more I have to slow down to go around corners in my Audi than I had to with my BMW.

It's not about the brand, it's about the layout and the priorities for suspension tuning. The Stinger will be BMW-like. The Cadenza isn't even on the same planet.

"Most" BMW drivers? I think we're gonna need a citation for that. My friend's mom didn't get a 5 series because of the driving dynamics, and my mom certainly didn't go out and buy the exact same model 5 series that my friend's mom had because of the driving dynamics. I think driving enthusiasts have always been and will continue to be a relatively small percentage of car buyers. That's why I'm glad any manufacturer still makes one or two models aimed at enthusiasts. But if you were to say most M4 buyers got them for the performance I'd tend to agree since that's marketed directly to enthusiasts.

Go take the new Cadenza for a drive , I'm saying many drivers will prefer the softer smoother drive , not every BMW driver is an enthusiast ( poser maybe )

Well, it certainly is true that most drivers aren't enthusiasts. I mean - look at how much the Camry sold when it was the most boring appliance you could buy. So that's true. Most buyers do buy for comfort which is why BMW has softened up so much. I'm still on the fence over how that's going to work out in the long run because BMW got it's reputation by being the "Ultimate Driving Machine"...

I'm a little surprised to hear that Audi is even softer than BMW. I thought Audi was becoming the new ultimate driving machine...

BMW has been softening their rides most notably on the 5 Series and the jornalists flamed them for it , not sure what vintage his Audi is but they were a softer ride and they've been gaining share . BMW always had the M division for enthusiasts , you can even buy many popular BMW's with the M Sport package which is not an M but tighter than their regular cars and some body candy . Perception is the bigger challenge for Kia , tuning a suspension , engine , transmission etc is a mechanical challenge , theirs is an emotional one . Thats why I like to see them draw an arrow to BMW and Lexus on these 2 new ads , they might kick start some movement , having won the JD Power IQ award 2 years in a row should be a powerful plank to start giving doubters/haters a reason to consider .......Korea .

A lot of people are beginning to realize that great products are coming out of South Korea. The Genesis Sedan, G80 and G90 have surprised a lot of people. The Stinger is going to do what the Genesis Coupe could not successfully do - and that's attract the enthusiast crowd and hold their interest...
