In before someone says it's your driving and not the bad/cheap parts from Kia to the N. American market!I think I joined the shuddering club too!. Only have 20K and it’s very disappointing. I’m getting cquence rotors with EBC red. Hopefully it’s a good combo.
The pads are super easy to replace. I replaced mine myself just over a month ago with R1 Concepts Optimum OEp front and rear pads.My mechanic charged me $275 to install all 4 pads, which I thought was a little high (maybe trying to recoup lost $ post-pandemic?), I'd read that the pad swap is crazy easy. Pads were $230, so for about $500 problem is solved, hopefully.
ugh such a rip off!!!The pads are super easy to replace. I replaced mine myself just over a month ago with R1 Concepts Optimum OEp front and rear pads.
If the OE rotors are ruined, then no. Often, rebedding the pads will make shudder go away; but it will return if the pads put deposits back on the rotors. What finishes off rotors is cementite: harder spots on the rotors from overheating (rotors never warp from the heat of street use; it's not sustainable enough to build up enough heat to deform the metal): once there are hard spots, these wear down slower than the still-soft original iron rotor face, and once you have higher and lower face you throw the rotor away: resurfacing it won't fix it. Probably the original rotors are fine and a resurfacing will work with brand new aftermarket pads. But if rebedding worked with the OE pads, you could replace them right away with aftermarket, bed the new pads, and avoid having the rotors resurfaced. It's not a science so you won't know unless you try.yeah I've had this shuddering for a while now, currently at 15k . kia won't fix it so would I just be okay replacing with stop tech pads? and original rotors?
Thanks for the reply, I will try re-bed oem and see before I do anything. I bought the car with 8k miles and the issue was already present. Will be an expensive fix if the rotors are no longer good. pretty sad that my kia dealership just told me they wouldn't help me with this issue. would be nice to have new rotors before I put new pads on lol. I guess kia is different, told me brakes are only covered a year after new. when I had my maxima they replaced my brakes like 3 times because of shudder issues up to somewhere around 20k miles and was at least 2 years old at the time... was planning on going aftermarket anyways just was hoping not so soon. oh well!If the OE rotors are ruined, then no. I see: original owners do get preferential treatment: some on here have had Kia replace pads/rotors well past 12K miles as a "good will gesture". But mostly Kia adheres to their 12K miles brakes warranty. And Kia's response is inconsistent: they won't touch some cars beyond 12K miles as warranty repair. Thanks for the reply, I will try re-bed oem and see before I do anything. yeah we shall see, I have a 3rd party extended warranty on everything for 100k miles at least. unfortunately the prepaid maintenance plan by ford 75k miles (both provided free by previous owner) is no longer honored by my kia dealership since the reimbursement wasn't enough for them. it does cover wearables including rotors and pads apparently. but they won't replace the pads even if im having issues unless its 3mm or less. so either I just pay out of pocket now or wait until its free but I kind of want to enjoy my car so I guess I have my answer heh.I see: original owners do get preferential treatment: some on here have had Kia replace pads/rotors well past 12K miles as a "good will gesture". If it ain't broke, don't mess with it. Aftermarket solutions will be waiting, IF the shudder starts; if it doesn't, then why swap?Still trying to determine if I should just get stoptech Posiquiets for my 1300 mile GT to avoid any issues down the line. $180 give or take from kahrtunerz. Are people complaining about noise from those?
Absolutely! That of course makes sense. My consideration was mainly around not screwing up my rotors with deposits and having to deal with getting replacements / dealing with Kia service. I could just replace the brake pads which is easy and then not have to worry. Or it was pointless because my car would never develop an issueIf it ain't broke, don't mess with it. everything is on backorder. stock of everything is so messed up.. im having a hard time getting the replacement oem 4s tires. costco and sams are on backorder. tirerack is also on backorder. good luck man, thats why i havent done my brakes yet. hope they ramp up production for everything!3rd time in for me, they replaced everything once and now around 25k later say I need all new brakes and rotors $$ but doesn't look like there's any in stock anywhere?
Yeah It's crazy I tired to get Cquence rotors and EBC pads...all back ordered. I got front factory rotors and put them on yesterday as I couldn’t stand the vibration anymore. I will change the whole front and rear when things are available tho.everything is on backorder. stock of everything is so messed up.. im having a hard time getting the replacement oem 4s tires. costco and sams are on backorder. tirerack is also on backorder. good luck man, thats why i havent done my brakes yet. hope they ramp up production for everything!
You put on Goodyear what?Yeah It's crazy I tired to get Cquence rotors and EBC pads...all back ordered. I got front factory rotors and put them on yesterday as I couldn’t stand the vibration anymore. I will change the whole front and rear when things are available tho.
Speaking of tires, good you’re sticking with Michelin. I put on Goodyear and they were terrible. I returned them and got the Michelin.
It was the goodyear eagle exhilarate. In my opinion, whoever doesn’t go with Michelin, it’s making a mistake. Simple as is, you lose your ride quality. You put on Goodyear what?
That's like saying, you drive a Kia, while it may be true, it's not very descriptive..
