FAQ: Vibration under braking: warped rotors? NO!

Because of all of this, I was extremely gentle with the brakes for the first 2k miles. Then I switched to hawk pads, did the bedding in process and now no issues, and no special treatment on the brakes. If the rotors are in good shape, just put better pads on. It is what it is. I agree that it shouldn't be this way, but my time is worth more than $175. I don't need the back and forth hassle of trying to get things replaced under warranty, just to have the same problem again and again. Although, I will say this, if I am hard on the brakes for a bit, I will take it very easy driving through the neighborhood for a few minutes just to let the brakes cool off before I park it.

Update from my end: I'm one of the early guys who switched to Hawk pads and got rid of most of the shudder because the Dealership wanted to put me through a lengthy 'one step at a time' process that likely wouldn't fix the problem.

Well, I went on a big driving trip through the NC/TN mountains and with heat the issues returned some. No big, they'd go away too if I re-bedded much easier than with the stock pads.

Fast forward to yesterday - had a service appt to fix my faded chrome trim around the windows and the dealer asked again about my brakes. They were totally fine with me using aftermarket pads, said they now just replace ANY 18-20 stinger GT's front pads and rotors who report any pulsing and said I should swap my stock pads back on so my hawks don't get thrown away.

I told them I'd be 100% fine if they just turn the front rotors because I was that confident that would handle the issue (selfishly so I didn't have to swap pads and wait for them to order the full replacement parts) but they insisted they follow the factory full replacement guidance and return the used parts to kia for inspection on the issues.

I'll be going back in 2 weeks for this swap. Pretty impressed with their commitment to fix this for their customers.

wow, that's impressive. will you put better pads on again? if so, would you go with the Hawk pads again?

My 21 is giving me major fits with the shudder so if they say they are replacing them all with this years pads good luck. Started around 6k I've tried the re-bed process twice. The 1st time I ended up in traffic so it wasn't ideal. Did it again with no traffic, they were hot and could smell the burn. Got it to the driveway with absolutely no brakes applied. Still have a pretty significant amount of shudder. I'm going to try it 1 more time. Car is at 10k now. I will re-read through the thread, but if someone cares to comment can I just get aftermarket pads? Or if I'm going to do that do I need to get rotors as well?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
You could just get the rotors “turned” to get all deposits off, put on Hawks or some variant of EBC pads, and do the bedding process after a little light driving.

This sucks. I got my Stinger with only 23km on the odometer. And my driving style is very gentle on the braking to the point that you can touch the rotors after a long drive without burning your hand.
Yet I get the shudder/vibration.

How far into your ownership did this start happening?

I would say very early on. The vibration are most noticeable when slowing from speed over 40mph

And you've been living with it since? I'd have had aftermarket pads and probably rotors on ages ago. Hah. :P

Hello, I have this problem too and I’m going to buy new rotors and pads but I need your help )) if anyone knows “DFC brake rotors” are normal? I saw this on eBay

Howdy and welcome. Surely this thread alone will steer you toward proven pad and rotor solutions. And there are other threads on the topic in addition to this one. Can't say anything about that specific brand; haven't heard of them.

Thank you And which one can you recommend?

Changing out the pads & rotors on a brand new car with only 3000 miles is insane.
This is a design flaw from Kia and they should be liable.

That looks European. We can't even get the European spec Stinger brake pads over here in the US (or we couldn't; maybe now we can?). I have this bookmarked in case I ever need to replace my OE brakes. FAQ: Vibration under braking: warped rotors? NO! So, I'll start there. There are other options of course.

I agree. And they will replace pads and surface rotors up to 12K miles; and beyond in some/many cases "as a goodwill gesture". I haven't had a lick of trouble out of my brakes in over 40K miles. That would be true of most Stingers.

I too have a 2019 GT with about 10600 miles on the odo. Vibration getting very irritating when braking over 45mph. Sounds like aggressive bedding is “iffy” at best. Worth a shot ? Or another trip to the dealer?

I would get it repaired under warranty. If it's within 12k miles and/or 12 months you're golden. Kia might do a goodwill gesture though... I have seen it from other members on the forums... they know the problem is pretty common at this point!

Yea, we'll see how it goes...10600, 1.5 years old...would expect they will take care of it. Wonder though, will it happen again. I Have not been aggressive with it. thanks for the reply
