FAQ: Vibration under braking: warped rotors? NO!

Khartunerz is selling Evo 8 pads that they list as stinger pads.

You don't have to buy from them ..there's a bazillion pad options once you realize that Evo 8 pads are dimensionally the same for our stingers....it's what I use.

Just because the problem hasn't recurred with the new rotors doesn't mean the problem was the rotors. It just means you haven't driven the car hard enough since then to cause pad deposits to transfer to the new rotors.

There is another theory.

Brand new pads will behave differently to older pads - with initial usage, the resins used to bind the pad material together "cook off" a little, and the pad composition changes slightly as a result.

See point 2 here: https://www.dba.com.au/main/tech-article-t017-basic-initial-brake-bed-in-street/

So, replacing rotors and not pads could actually work to "solve the problem" because it takes the rotors that are unevenly layered with brake pad material and replaces them with clean rotors - and the resins in the pads are already settled down by that stage, meaning that they no longer cause excessive or uneven pad material deposits on the rotors.

Does that mean that the first set of rotors were warped? No.

What are good after market brake pads for a GT 3.3 RWD. Where can I get them from.

I am reaching out to Greg @ Brakes Direct to see what he can get in.

DBA don't list rotors for the Stinger yet, which is unfortunate - I wonder if someone may have to supply them with a stock set for measurement - I'd really like to upgrade to a set of 4000-series T3 rotors...

New Drilled & Slotted Rotors

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
They also have dimpled, dimpled and slotted, etc. Made in the USA, though that might not appeal to those down under.

Shipping brake rotors can be expensive due to weight - that said, it was cheaper when I owned my VW to buy the 332mm x 30mm rotors from the US and ship them here than to buy them locally!

Well I got the front rotors replaced under warranty yesterday. So far so good. Only time will tell if these are better that the originals. The service guy told me to be easier on the brakes, which kinda steamed me a little. I don't slam on my brakes - I'm easy on them. I don't drive it on the race track... These are Brembo's and beefy rotors which should be built for a little punishment... so driving normally the rotors and pads should last a really long time, don't you think?

Should've told him you bought a Stinger and not a Rio for a reason, if the Brembos can't hold up to street use the customer isnt the problem, its the product.

Had the same issue as others on my '18 GT2. Took it in to Grieco Kia in Delray Beach and here's how they remedied it (from the invoice and under warranty, obviously):

"Found that the rotors are warped, with a runout measure .004 on left front and .005 on right front. Resurfaced .006 off the rotors, sanded pads and found to have no problems ... found that the rear rotors are warped, with a runout measure of .003 on left rear and .006 on right rear. Resurfaced .007 material off on the rotors and sanded pads and found to have no problems."

I haven't had any issues since (two weeks ago). I had requested new rotors because, well, why not, but they said they haven't had this problem at all on ANY Stingers yet and the service adviser looked very surprised at my comments and request. I didn't press the issue but if it happens again (which by the sound of others here, leads me to believe it will), I'll surely demand new product before I start slapping new rotors on my vehicle out of pocket.

I don't know much about rotors so if anybody has thoughts on the job they did to remedy my situation, please share any feedback.

Picked up my 2019 GT2 AWD yesterday and notice this issue on the way home, car has 79 miles on it.

I plan on trying the rebedding procedure later today and will be sending an email to the sales rep.

No it won't matter I had an 06 Infiniti that had the rotors/pads changed 3 or 4 times under warranty in the first 24K miles. It kept happening. When I had to pay I went to an independent garage and they used a different pad/rotor and I never had a problem again. Then I had a 15 GTI no warping at all had that car about 50K miles (car sucked for many other FWD mostly reasons). Now the Stinger while still in the break in period I started noticing it. No I had not driven the car hard no hard braking at all. I bet anything they'll fix it and it will happen again and again. I was hoping that it was an 18 only problem mine is a 19. Hoped Kia would switch to a different pad but I guess not.

Khartunerz said he'll soon be carrying the Centric rotors along with their pads soon. Great products and highly recommend.

I just had my rotors replaced under warranty and when I picked up the car, the service guy said to let them know if I had any further problems because there was more they could do according to their instructions (not sure what exactly he called it). Fingers crossed that the new rotors are better than the last ones.
The day after I picked it up, while I was driving, the right front fender liner came off and cracked my bumper. I took it back to the dealer, assuming they hadn't reinstalled it correctly when they replaced the rotors; and they swear they didn't take it off. They are trying to pin it on me stating there was front end & wheel damage. I explained that I curbed the wheel about 8 months ago and so he backed off that idea. He then pushed on the "front end damage". There is some worn pain under the bumper where I've parked too close to a high sidewalk/parking curb. Neither of those things would have been any sort of force/speed to have loosened/removed the clips that hold in the fender liner. And, even if the dealer didn't remove the liner, wouldn't they have noticed it wasn't fully attached when they had the wheel off the day before!? He's telling me that it isn't a warranty item. Any suggestions?

Tell them that unless they can prove it's wear and tear, it's warranty.
Is it any "skin off the dealers back" to submit warranty work to Kia? I'm trying to figure out why they are trying to fight me on this.

It depends.

If it's manufacturer warranty (ie you're claiming design or build fault), no. They make money on it.

If they screwed up when doing your brakes, then yes, because they are responsible.

Tell them that the car was fine when they accepted it, and suffered an explainable failure directly after they worked on it - and they themselves saw no faults when you have it to them that they're now blaming as the cause.

If they still refuse, tell them you will be contacting Kia directly - and follow up on that.

Thank you, that's what I thought (regarding the warranty).
I talked with the salesman that I bought it from (different dealer--not as close to my house) and he said I could bring it to them to look at it and see if warranty would cover it. I may do that and not fight with these people. Or at least try this before fighting!
