Exhaust Tips

I lined my trunk with Noico mat and liner before trying the tips. It’s the same material as Dynamat and Dynaliner, but at a fraction of the cost. Got it on amazon. It made a noticeable but small difference, however the tips themselves helped the most. With them both, I’m really happy with where the tone ended up.

I’m not sure you’re going to find a “zero drone” solution.
The “drone” really depends on your preferences and sensitivity to sound level. If you want to guarantee zero drone, then stick with the stock exhaust. Maybe try one of the quieter exhaust systems with tips for best results - someone had a comparison thread up previously, just search.
Gotta ask why you’re looking for a sport exhaust upgrade if you don’t want to hear it? Even the stock Challenger R/T I’ve rented had a noticeable exhaust tone on the highway, but that’s part of the car’s character.

So after about 3-1/2 hrs..the lining of the trunk is done...took a little longer than expected, but kind of particular on doing it right. Turned out pretty good. Got everything buttoned back up and went and drove around for about 30 mins including some highway driving. With the AK tips and this, it is now perfect IMO. You can still hear the exhaust, but sounds a bit tighter in the cabin now.

Even with the tips, doing the trunk floor does make a significant difference?

To me, Yes. The tips reduced the drone about 75-85%, but there was still that little bit that I wanted to quiet down some. The "dynamat" lining gave me the extra 10%...doesn't seem like much, but it's kind of like having a drink to relax...it just takes the "edge" off...to me, it tightened the cabin noise as well as reduced some road noise.

Do you think that it adds a lot of weight?

What type of material is this? Have a link? Still waiting to get my MBRP in. I have the tips. Just waiting to install everything. Just in case the tips don't cut drone out enough for me, I may line my hatch area as well.

Noico product is what I used. I got it from Amazon. It's the same style butyl rubber and aluminum foil product as Dynamat, but at less cost. I added some of their "Dynamat" type product (adhesive backed foam sheet) after these pictures to increase the sound dampening. Between this and the tips - it's perfect.

I ordered the KILMAT 80 mil 36 sqft product and the roller to apply. Probably be doing that project this weekend. Not doing it to kill drone, just to eliminate road noise which is usually prevalent in hatchbacks. Did you remove the battery on your install or just work around it?

For me, it was easier to remove the battery. Tip: mark the bracket mounting holes to cut out before putting down the mat. There are more holes in the trunk area than are used by the spare tire / battery brackets.

I removed the top bracket, but worked my way around as best as I could..may go back and look at what I can do about under the battery though. Definitely helps with road noise.

I am planning to install Akrapovic tips this week, but I'm not clear how much to cut from the bumper.
Can I make it big and have the tips just hang on the stock exhaust end? or does the hole have to be somewhat tight so that bumper can support the weight of the tip?
I think if I just have them hang on the stock exhaust end, it may shake around a bit..so i guess clearance has to be good.
I would really appreciate your inputs.

Also, what do you guys think about these color combo on M8 exhaust? do you think this color would look good on black GT2?

It should not be tight otherwise you will hear the vibrations

I only shaved maybe 3mm at the bottom to fit mine in, they are very snug and I dont have any vibration as xot1 is mentioning ... I seen ppl cutting/shavin quite a bit but honestly you can get away with a snug fit

I did my MBRP CBE install with the Akrapovic tips this past weekend.

What I can say is, if you're installing tips onto the stock exhaust or an aftermarket CBE, stoop down so you can get a level viewpoint and hold the tip in front of the exhaust. You'll see where you'll need to trim the top and bottom to get a fit. That's what I did and used a dremel to trim away a bit at a time, always test fitting the tip. Eventually you'll be able to squeeze it through the bumper cutout. Mine are 'snug' and still contact the bumper a little but I'm not getting any vibrations. Honestly, I'm not sure it's even possible to trim that area out and NOT have any part of the bumper contact the round tips. You'd be cutting out a tremendous amount of material and it's likely not necessary. You just don't want it super tight.

Also, I did all my cutting from the outside of the bumper. I initially tried cutting from underneath (before I installed the axel back section of the CBE) but cutting on my back sucked (car was on ramps). It was just fine cutting from the outside honestly. Just be careful not to scuff the black paint with the rotating head of the dremel. Wrapping your fingers around it while gripping the dremel will ensure no scuffs. Once I got through the first one, the other 3 went quickly since I knew approximately what needed to be done. It also doesn't need to be perfect because the trim work is all tucked behind the tips... but still be careful and mindful when trimming.

I also measured my tips to extend about 1.75", measured from top center of the tip, bumper to tip edge. I felt this gave the tips good presence without looking obnoxious.

thanks guys for your inputs.
I think I will try with snug fit and them trim it more if I do run into vibration problems.
