Exhaust Tips

Hey gang,

I have an MBRP exhaust system sitting in my garage waiting for my exhaust shop to reopen here in Cali. I just browsed through this whole thread and have a question... Has anyone found any legit oval tips in stainless finish?? I just went through this whole thread and didn't see anything.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but love the look of the stock tips. However, I still want to control drone when I get the exhaust installed. The Oval Akrapovic tips look great, except they only come in black or carbon fiber. I prefer the stainless since I'm not going with a blacked out look for the rest of the car. Are there any "Real" tips out there that emulate the stock look? Or should I just try the "Drone Fix" with exhaust wrap first?

Thx!

I like the oem tips, and more the carbon ones, but I didn't want to modify the rear balance. Also I didn't like the drone on my Borlas.
So I went to the muffler shop and added a piece of SS tubing extension (same diameter of the borla tips) to near the end of the oem tips.... Drone eliminated....oem look. next maybe I paint the oem tips black chrome.....

Can you see the extension tube inside the OEM tips? Got any pics? This is intriguing

they took a piece of SS tube, same diameter as the borla muffler tip, and welded. If is bigger then it will touch the oem tip inside and posible vibrations.
I can be a little longer, but then it will be more exposed...at least the drone is gone!

Cool! Gonna do this on my MBRP.

Seems like the simplist solution.

Just tried to install Chinese made Akrapovic exhaust tips. My 5 cents, don't do it!! Not worth the time and money spent...

“tried”? What went wrong? It’s a pretty simple install, especially if they’re the oval ones.

Did you get the right size?

Cool! Gonna do this on my MBRP.

Let me know how it turns out! I'm set to get my MBRP installed on Thursday and am wondering if I should go straight for this, or try the exhaust wrap first.

I may got diameter all wrong, the new tips are too large to work with stock exhaust. So, I ended up removing the stock exhaust. And, don't get me started on the top screws holding stock tips secured, which are impossible to secure back with average adult size hands. It was such a pain getting those screwed back in. It's like Evolution X days were back. Evos have this weird daytime runing light bulbs that can only be replaced if you've had your pinkie chopped off. Anyways, keeping fingers crossed aftermarket sway bars will be a lot more easier to install. Wish me luck!

What size tips did you buy to fit the stock exhaust. as I am looking into purchasing the tips for a 2 inch tip? Sorry to hear about the wrong tip.... i know that let down feeling!

I went with 63 mil X 89 mil, which roughly works as 2.5 inch X 3.5 inch. Btw, 1 out of 4 ordered is wrong item. Whatever you end up ordering , make sure to check all the boxes first!!

The stock exhaust requires 51mm inlet

Is anyone also concerned about the restriction due to the abrupt change of shape inside the tips? I don't think the round tips have this problem.
