Exhaust Tips

Just to confirm for those who have Borla exhaust we want the 51mm option with the 105/ 75 outlet correct?
Yep - that’s the exact size I ordered and installed. No problems. Just had to drop the mufflers and remove the stock tips, reinstall mufflers, install new tips, adjust for fit, and tighten it all down. About an hour of work on a cold car (I don’t recommend wrestling with hot pipes).

Finally got time to install my exhaust and the Akrapovic tips ! with the MBRP exhaust I went with 63x89mm – it does require a little bit of trimming the diffuser OEM holes however not that much, there VERY snug in there and make a whole lot of a difference for the drone.

I think they look GREAT makes the car look so much meaner now !

How "tight" were the 63mm tips to slide over the MBRP exhaust? I just ordered these tips but in 66mm x 89mm thinking 63mm would be too small since it technically measures under 2.5".

63mm fits perfect, you'll have to fill the gap on your 66mm

So just to clarify the tips are not only for aesthetic purposes but they help eliminate some interior cabin drone? And if so how much drone can a set of tips help eliminate est. 5%, 25%, 50% et.?

Exactly. More or less, it helps push the exhaust sound waves out past the back end of the car instead of having some bounce back underneath and resonate in the interior due to the disconnect between the exhaust pipes and the stock tips in the bumper.
I’m not sure of an exact percentage in drone reduction a) because drone is subjective b) I haven’t remeasured with the decibel meter.
What I can say, in my opinion, is that it drastically improved the interior noise level coming from the Borla cat-back such that I can keep the radio volume on 3-4 and hear every word clearly. Low RPM drone in that 1.25-2k band (Highway cruising, around town in comfort mode) is much better, also. I feel that it’s brought the car back to near stock interior comfort levels as a DD, but still lets you (and definitely those behind you) hear what you paid for.

Very informative, thank you very much. I'm probably buying the Borla during the K8 sale and just wanted to make sure it makes a difference but coming from an STi with downpipes I doubt the exhaust would bother me anyway LOL :D

Haha yes, pretty much what this whole thread is about.
grab a coffee and read on ;)

Installing tips at this very moment.
It is more work than expected.

wow ... surely this is not JUST for the exhaust tips.... WAY overkill :eek:

I’m thinking there must be something else going on here. What’s this little guy; some type of vacuum actuator for active exhaust?

Could explain the bumper removal. IDK though.

good eye ! looks like EVC system... jun bl maybe (since op is in Korea)

Yes its an EVC catback.
We removed the bumper to do the trimming, and we also painted the original muffler tips in black to be more stealth when looking through the trimmed bumper.

75x105
but I think I should have gone for a smaller size
I get a sort of rattle at idling 620RPM, I think the tips are hitting the bumper at that engine speed.

I must warm the community:
Tips may reduce the drone, but they change the note of the exhaust, thing that I didn't really expect.
To be honest the exhaust sounded better before doing the tips, both valve opened and closed.
Now it sounds different and louder on the outside, quieter inside (not speaking of the rattle because it is probably an easy fix).
So if I could speak to my past self before ordering the tips (or to anyone in a similar situation) I would say: Only do it if you can't live with the drone!
In conclusion I am a little bit disappointed right now but I couldn't do much testing, so I will update my opinion after more driving.
