Thanks... what is high test? I use Seafoam in my Charger.. what are your thoughts on Techron vs Seafoam?
The 1st Kia dealer service dept said they only use semi but the one I go to now uses only full synthetic for turbo. The 1st one provided a refund for oil change since I had requested full on ticket.
I also use seafoam . I use in tank and in oil case. Great product. I go back and fourth with Techron and seafoam every couple months. Also use the seafoam vavle and turbo cleaner . You spray in intake it keeps valves clean . Because gas doesn’t touch intake valve on direct injection engine. U have to keep clean .they carbon up fast. Ya and the oil . I use 10 30 pennzoil ultra Synthetic .
Also with the high pressure pumps sometimes you will get tiny pieces of junk on injectors that will make them a little noisy. Keep them clean and they stay a bit quiet. But remember direct injection is loud like some Diesels. Listen to a Mercedes with direct injection at a traffic light they are way louder then are cars. Just a by product of these high pressure systems. Are cars pump 2900 psi at the high pressure pump and about 15 pounds from the tank pump. It’s really crazy tech
I have a rather different noise than most of what has been posted since the start of this forum. Perhaps you fine gentlemen can shed some light on the issue. I have done a lot of research and talked to many mechanics/well-rounded-car people and I am confident my issue/noise is indeed valve tick. In the video, you can hear a rather louder and more high pitched ticking noise that gets faster and louder with more revs. I can hear it all the time, but it's definitely more pronounced when giving the car revs. I can even hear the ticking noise when driving along the road and when there are walls/obstacles around me where the sound can bounce off and be heard more clearly. Let me know what you guys think. I have been to two different dealerships and the first replaced the throttle body (not the smartest guys) and the second was one of the worst dealerships I have dealt with (lied constantly, never worked on the car, and said it was "normal" without any effort to diagnose). Thanks everyone.
Vehicle Specifications: 2019 Genesis G703.3T RWD
Some Background: Car was purchased brand new, sits in the garage, is well taken care of, gets only full synthetic around 5,000 miles, currently around 10,000 miles, and the valve tick noise started around 6,000 miles out of the blue.
It’s high pressure fuel pump. It is ran off of a lobe on cam shaft . So of course when u rev it up it will be faster tick. Use pure synthetic and sea foam valve and turbo cleaner 2 times a year .
It’s high pressure fuel pump. It runs off lobe on camshaft. So when u rev it . It goes faster. Also with these you will get fuel injector tick. I know on mine sometimes injectors will stick and be a lot lounder . I use valve turbo cleaner twice a year. Full synthetic oil . Bought my gt nov 2017 one of first 500 owned. All the high pressure gas stuff on this engine is just loud. I have 30000 miles all the mods u can think of. Car still runs like the day I bought it just much faster now lol
Thank you for the reply FI stingergt. The unusual part of this noise is that it is coming further forward in the engine bay, away from the fuel pump, and sounds right at the top of the engine. The cold starts have become very rough since the loud tick started and causes my car to bang and shake at random times during cold starts. I also installed an oil catch can very early when I first bought the car so the valves should be pretty clean. I really don't mind the loud valve and fuel pump/injector noises, but I can feel the car isn't running quite as it used to before the louder tick started, cuaisng me to think I have a more serious issue. If you don't mind me asking, what valve cleaner do you use? I'm glad to hear your Stinger is running like a champ still with all the mods!
unplug the fuel pump , the electrical connector, then cold start it , then plug it in as its running , thats what i needed to do to convince me it was that , not lifter tick or rod knock
I have never heard of these diagnostic steps and I'll definitely give them a try. I appreciate the input fellas. So if indeed it is a loud pump/injector, it isn't a real issue I should worry about? Any way I could minimize the noise or that would just require the dealer to replace the component in question?
the pump is just loud until it builds oil pressure to cushion the blow of the solid tappet , is my guess , its strange but a real thing .
no fix yet . and yes its weird and it drives me crazy too
Yep hpdi fuel systems sound like baby Diesel engine. Listen to some other hpdi engines when your at a stop light they tick and make all kinds of noises
byebyeSTI, does your 3.3T continue to make the louder ticking noise after the car has well warmed up and been driven for awhile as well? The ticking noise never goes away or gets quieter for me. When I get to work an hour later, I can hear the noise audibly off the concrete walls in the parking deck, especially when I accelerate from a stop. I'm hoping to give a shot at disconnecting the pump this weekend to narrow down the issue...hoping it's just as you guys are thinking. Thanks again for the help and replies.

in my experience, hearing different cars with dfi, the ticking is loud all the time, on cold start it is louder than normal but even after warm up hpfp tick is noticeable especially if idling next to a building or drivethrough. Lexus being lexus listened to peoples complaints and updated the sound insulation around the hpfp and under the hood to mitigate it a little...

mine makes the tick . fuel pump noise only on cold start , for id say 20-30 seconds longer if its colder , there is a low level injector tick after that that is barley audible when opening the hood . to test the pump noise , cold start the car with hood open , get out and unplug the injector pump quickly if thats the noise you are worried about it should stop until you plug it back in , do it quick to avoid a cel . or the car shutting off , also check the oil ?
