Engine Lifter Noise

Nothing is unclear.

These pumps seem to have varying degrees of noise, the dealer even admitted that mine is particularly loud compared to other 3.3s that have come in with the same complaint.

If a demonstrably quieter option became available, I'd be interested.

I’ve got a 2019 GT.
Same exact limited duration noise after startup since new. Now at 16K - its unchanged. I change oil every 3500 miles. Talked to my dealer about it early on. It is 100% normal.

I need help understand the fuel pump noise on driver side . Sounds like fast sowing machine. I have 2018 with 17000 miles . Now I’m getting a tick tick tick noise from passenger side. Could that be loud fuel injectors. Just noticed when I was in drive through. Have had car almost three years lots of drive throughs never that noticeable before. But it’s coming from passenger side. But when you give it gas it’s gone.or my intakes and exhaust drown it out.

Also change oil every three months 100 synthetic and filter. I was wondering if there was piece of trash in injector making it louder

If you ever get the chance, try to hear any flat engine Porsche on cold startup and in general. My dads old 2015 cayman S and the slightly newer 911 4S almost sound broken to me when they first get going. Aggressive cams do this I guess.

Anything that goes away with RPM is a good thing it’s the sounds that don’t go away when you raise RPM that’s an issue

Ran to bottles of sea foam through gas tank noise went away on passenger side . Yes I admit all direct inject fuel systems are loud. I think I had a winking fuel injector on passenger side. All good now

Do all Stingers have a very loud, What I believe is lifter noise, on cold starts? Mine does. It last 30 seconds to a minute and sound like a diesel truck. It's quiet on warm starts. Kind of embarrassing considering what I paid for the car. DOn't hear it in an Audi S5 Sportback. I understand the noise happens because kia uses solid lifters instead of the hydraulic lifters like most manufacturers? Anyone know have this same issue and can confirm the cause? I went to the dealer and they said it was normal. I had them cold start a new one siting on the lot and it sounded the same.
I own a 2020 Stiner with the 3.3 V6 I only have 2000 km on her and Yes I too hear this ticking noise on start up. I was going to speak with dealer and decided to google this , only to find that others experience the same issue.
I'm hoping this isn't a serious down the road problem.

no issue, a normal high pressure fuel pump sound upon cold start. If you google high pressure fuel pump ticking , you will see that pretty much all direct injected car forums have the exact same question..

I read somewhere in the manual that the valve noise on start up is from the variable valve timing

I noticed the same noise , when I inquired into this I was told it is Not Lifters.
I was told it is the HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP.
I hope this is correct, because if it is Lifters that would No doubt damage the cam and lifter

I've had the same noise as everyone else. After 5 trips to dealer, Kia field tech diagnosed as issue with design of the fuel pump& housing.. however, other mechanics say it is the lifters. I believe its two problems.. fuel pump & possible lifters.. cant post link.. so Google "kia-stinger-lifter-tick-diagnosis".. 700r4transmissionhq
I'm schedule to take it back in for this..
Thoughts?

Standing in front of vehicle. fuel pump noise is on the right (driver side) & the other noise is on the left (passenger side) and can be heard better after fuel pump noise lower... the more issues/info documented, the better for current & future owners..

Hopefully this isn't a common issue then... It may also just be noise direct injectors make as well which would occur on both sides of the engine not just the pump.

I’ve had stinger for 3 years now. Driver side is high pressure fuel pump noise also along with direct injection. Passenger side noise is also do to direct injection. Fuel injection with direct injection is very loud and will somewhat sound like lifter noise. I’ve noticed sometimes louder on passenger side . So I run a bottle of Techron through to clean and lube injectors and it Seems to settle injectors down. Always use high test and change oil with full synthetic. Kia only uses semi synthetic on there changing and turbos on these cars roast the oil quick.

Thanks... what is high test? I use Seafoam in my Charger.. what are your thoughts on Techron vs Seafoam?

The 1st Kia dealer service dept said they only use semi but the one I go to now uses only full synthetic for turbo. The 1st one provided a refund for oil change since I had requested full on ticket.
