Do It Yourself Kia Stinger Oil Change

I’ve also recommended this many times but if you plan to do your own oil changes regularly consider investing in a vacuum oil extractor. I have a Mityvac 7400 and it is amazing. Pulls out exactly what was in the car, no mess, and saves a lot of hurt under the car. On vehicles with top mounted filters like my Audi, it takes me 20 minutes to change oil.
Still have the filter to deal with, still have to get under the car for that. Don

Changing the oil once a year, it's not a big deal to get under, take the cover off. This is a good time to check for leaks.

I may be forced to join the DIY oil change crowd, the local Genesis dealer got bought out in the time between my visits and they were reluctant to honor the price I was paying, which I was informed is significantly less than they normally charge. There's a bit of a coordinated effort here in Vegas to price fix this service, almost everywhere is charging $100+ for what is at worse a $50 labor + oil/filter cost.

Just wanted to add; back in highschool, I took autoshop for at least 1 year (might have been two, don't remember). In addition to classroom studies, there was a lab component where those with their own cars could work on them, or others assist/do small engine stuff.

So, one day, some kid is doing an oil change on his car. Can't remember what car it was either now. What I do remember is the kid changing the filter (spinon), draining the oil, refilling then starting it back up.

This is when things got really exciting. Shortly after he started it up, there was a huge mess of oil under the car. I imagine he lost a few quarts. Teacher gathers the whole class together while making an example of this (he was a white kid, so the teacher calling him all sorts of colorful words was not racist :) )
Turns out he double gasketed the filter. This has stuck in my head over the years. Whenever changing a spinon I always double check to make sure the gasket came off with the old filter. No, i wasn't the one with this screw up. It was a good lesson for everyone.

Fun class, we had access to all sorts of tools, a tire machine, brake lathe, a really old alignment machine. The hoist was a pita. A spider type frame hoist using a single cylinder with 4 arms that came out.

Do yourself a favour and slap in a kayak style access port to easily access the drain plug

And replace the drain plug with a quick change valve.

And then the only semi messy part is the stupid cartridge filter.

I think it is Champion that makes many of the US branded oil filters. I called them once and asked what was the best filter. It was a Fram Ultra Guard they said.

I bought one and when I took it out of the box, the gasket came off in my hands. Cost a lot of confidence on my part, never bought that kind again. Don

You are way over thinking this.

Just buy a wix and be done.

Nice. I’ve got the Fumoto valve. Where did you get the hatch?

Do we know which provides better filtration, the Kia or the Wix? Don
This would be another never ending debate as it has not been established by peer reviewed studies. Changing oil/filter at the recommended interval obviates the need for the question or studies. Either is fine.

I hope the wix parts lookup is right for you 3.3 folk.

For the 2.5T it shows a 51334 spinon - Part Details

Clearly wrong as the car takes a cartridge type.

I hope they come out with a correct application for the 2.5t. I have a few left, but they're pricey at the dealer.

Comes with washer, 2 orings, and a weird pin.

What's the pin for?

These come with print and crush washer as well. For the 3.3

On the 2.5t the filter is mounted vertically, perpendicular to the ground. There's a pin that goes inside the lower portion of the filter housing one removes to drain the housing of oil. This plug has an oring and another pin to keep it in place.

The + piece below is two pieces.

^^Exactly.

Edit: One other comment on the 2.5. The genius that designed the engine cover forgot to include the hole to add oil!!!! Yes, the engine cover has to come off to add oil... WTF!@#

That’s how I used to think before I bought an extractor. It saves hassle and mess. The stinger is especially annoying because you have to remove the skid plate to access the drain plug. All of that is negated. You simply remove the one pop clip in the round filter access panel.
