3.3TT DIY intakes w/Heat shielding drop about 0.2sec off 0-60

If you want to give your DIY intake more air you can do this DIY active cold air mod. Just take off the rest of the intake ducting (2 pieces each side but the second piece requires bumper removal) and cut a whole in the radiator shroud. Same idea as the JT mod but no metal scoops. Bumper removal is super easy. I cut my shroud 20180902_081108.webp with 2 large drilled holes and hand jig sawed to conect the two holes.
Drill lower in the shroud only if you want to ensure no water getting in. It shouldn't as is but lower would prevent.

Don't know if anyone's posted this site link yet but, lots of great DIY silicone intake parts and pieces here, including filters: www. siliconeintakes .com/
Good find - looks like reasonable prices as well ...

I added heat shields to my Spectre filters today. These are Spectre 8130 heat shields to go with the 8130 series filters. $20 CAD each on Amazon. They slip under the hose clamp that holds the filter to the pipe and fit really well.

The passenger side shield fits with lots of space but the drivers side is a lot tighter. I had to trim the corner of the shield on the fender side with some metal shears in order to get it to sit where I wanted it so that it won't rub on anything.

Overall though these fit great and should help with heat soak. They should also help pull in more cold air especially with the Big Mouth snorkels.

can you provide part number for heat shield an where you purchased?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
With these heat shields on you won’t need a bracket anymore. I did use a bit of foam tape to make a snug fit and eliminate any movement.

How have your DIY Intakes been holding up? Everything still fine? Did you ever make a bracket for these?
never made a bracket after driving for didnt feel it was necessary.....there solid and the car has been running good.......i added the snorkles and seen a huge difference in lower temperatures on the air on the JB4....i am wondering if these shields would help... i assuming they will when the car is still and not moving....

Very nice and I bet that will help. My shielding definitely made a night and day difference and wouldn’t use the intakes without them.

I’ve been tempted to get the snorkels too but wasn’t sure it would help much without a sealed box drawing the air in. How much temperature change did you notice and any top end power increases?

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I've been researching the intake setup I wanted and wasn't looking forward to having to wait a couple of months to save up for a name brand. I read through all 10 pages of this thread and will now use some of my fantasy football winnings to purchase my DIY setup immediately. Filters, elbows, and heat shields for under $150! I can't wait!!! Thanks again!

Finished my install. Again, I appreciate all of the input. I think I may have ordered the wrong 90 degree pipes, though. Tight fit, and there was no way to get the heat shields in. Sounds pretty good, but I thought it would be a little louder.

So, I installed the Spectre Performance 9499 and it's too big, IMO.

I just ordered the Spectre Performance 86981 and look forward to testing Amazon's return policy.

Nice. I didn’t use the 90degree pipes so not sure the difference but they look a little long. That also could be making it quieter as mine seems pretty loud.

The smaller elbow or short straight tubing like I used may be louder and make the shielding fit better.

You can also do the DIY BOV mod and just remove the recirculation pipes that connect to the intake tubes. That makes it a lot louder. Post #7 shows pictures of it here. 3.3TT - Whistle N Psshh
And here is another thread about it.
3.3TT - So about the stock BOV...

Hope this helps and happy tuning!

Those look longer than the ones I have. Mine are basically just the 90 with very little straight pipe on each end. They are Spectre brand elbows from Amazon.

I’m probably going to be selling my intakes and elbows that I got as I will be bms intake if anyone is interested.. filters are red ..
