Point of clarification on the yellow paint comment. I did have the back hatch under the license plate replaced and repainted under warranty. Now there are only 2 spots on the yellow.

I have a micro blue and mine is going in next week for hood fenders and front end repaint, with a loaner.

I love my car!!

I hope the repaint makes it right really I just bought an Aurora Black November build and I am hoping the paint is ok on mine seems good so far. Kia really should just have a buyback for every owner affected and use it as a learning tool. Let you keep the car as is and then swap with a 2019. I would also insist on a letter from Kia stating that the paint has failed and was repainted under their supervision to meet factory requirements just for down the road when you try to sell or trade if it comes up.

In addition to the peeling under my driver headlight (everyone here disagrees it is NOT from rubbing of the headlight, to include the regional Kia rep), I encountered this paint issue with my bumper yesterday. I suspect whatever vendor painted my bumper simply didn't prepare the surface properly....20180725_195410.webp20180725_195416.webp20180725_195428.webp

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
Sorry, my assumption is that the bumper was pre-painted by an automotive supplier to Kia for assembly. I may be wrong in that assumption, so please disregard. This is new from the factory.

Not an ideal morning for me to communicate apparently. Previously others on this thread have stated the issue under my headlight is a well known rubbing issue. However, at least in my case, it is a paint peel issue. Thanks for seeking clarity! headlight.webp

I would take some masking tape and put it on that then peel quickly to see if it continues. Betting yes. That is not from the headlight. Let us know what they plan to do about it.

From what we know this is a headlight rubbing issue because quite a few Stingers have same issue in the same place.

I understand, Jason, and thank you for your contribution. If you look closely at the picture, you will see a definitive lift of the paint which indicates the paint is not adhered to the bumper. We've pressed and attempted to make my bumper and headlight rub against each other in every way imaginable - they do not rub. The Kia determination thus far is this is not caused by rubbing. As Kia gives me more info, I will share it.

The plan at this point is a new bumper is on order and will be painted in full before replacing the factory bumper.

I just got off the phone with KIA. The Yellow Stinger letters were mailed on 7-23. The amount of the repaint compensation is in fact $5,000. The letters are generic in nature so the buyout section will not give you an exact amount for your specific vehicle. We should have our letters very soon now.

Awesome news! Guess we all need to make sure we reference the headlight problem as well before they say they won't paint bumpers..... 3 blue owners on here have had it done already, and I know I won't accept it back if those arent corrected along with the rest of the car.

I do want to see the letter which details everything though.

Sorry to say but considering the bumper appears to also be cracked that looks more like a curb impact than paint issue to me.

Agreed, I will tell them they don't need to bother if they don't repaint the bumpers also.. they can just have it back for a buyout.

If you look under your hood, there is a small piece of clear vinyl at the corner on each side. Similar to those one the exterior of your vehicle on your quarter panels

Agreed, mine looks the same, paint "lifting" from the bumper. Worst i have seen on the blue one a few posts up...WOW

Have not received my letter yet but will check the mail today given i am one state away from HQ in Irvine. If they dont want to address the bumper or boost that comp amount they can stomach the entire buyback then. Fingers crossed that the letter details this very well. I would disappointed if the comp amount is not detailed within the letter also since we would have nothing in writing to that end.

Everyone needs to be fully informed of whatever decision is made prior to signing or agreeing to anything. Please do not take a post here as law. Only that which is written or offered from Kia is what is available. Once i receive mine i will post for review. i have already posted a list of questions coming from my end to Kia.

Well somebody had to get the letter first and it appears to be me. There is not much more information than we already knew. The letter seems to strongly be encouraging repaint with the $5,000 payment as a good will gesture as the primary option. Swap out and buyback are listed later in the FAQ part of the letter if people are not happy with a repaint. The letter specifically calls out that only metal areas of the car are affected and that is what will be painted.
There is an item of interest about the warranty. Here is the exact wording: "Q10. Will these paint repairs affect the paint warranty on my vehicle? A10. No. There will be no changes to the existing 3 years or 36,000 mile paint warranty (whichever comes first) as outlined in the 2018 Warranty and Consumer Informational Manual that came with the vehicle." There is nothing about a lifetime warranty, we keep the same 3/36 apparently. The only other thing I noticed is that it does say we have until December 1 to choose swapping for a different color or Buyback. This was stated previously in this thread but now I have it in writing. There are no other surprises in the letter which is two pages and then two pages of FAQs. Most of the FAQs are very basic like : "Will I have to pay for the repaint" and " What cars are affected" so like I said no big revelations there. That is everything in the letter that people wanted clarity on I think. Good luck everyone.
