Great minds think alike!Hahaha, funny I was thinking exactly the same thing.

5000 sounds like very fair compensation, but it needs to be considered payment for loss in value after the repaint. This to me means it should not be taxable. If they are going to 1099 us at the end of the year like we won a prize that is not acceptable.
I was informed that all of the car's surfaces will be repainted (with the exception of the engine bay).
This includes all plastic surfaces and the doorway surfaces. The metal parts of the vehicle will be taken back to the white sealer before repainting. The plastic surfaces will not be taken right back but will be completely repainted so that all parts of the car match up.
IMO I will probably end up with a better paint job than when the car left the factory as a hand painting job will probably provide thicker coverage.
I must say that I have been very impressed, thus far, with KIA NZ regarding how they have handled this.
I should emphasise that this information is only from KIA NZ but I don't see why KIA would not deal with this problem in exactly the same manner internationally.
This sounds very promising. Can't wait to see the outcome!Hi Guys,
A quick update. I've just spoken with my KIA dealer and have decided to have my yellow Stinger repainted. He offered me the option of taking a look at a repainted car, which they will have available in a few weeks, to check whether I would be satisfied before I made a decision as to whether to proceed. But based on his assurances I am confident that KIA NZ will do the job properly.
I also discussed the comments and information provided on this forum regarding which parts of the vehicle are to be repainted and how they might be repainted. He stated that there is a lot of misinformation floating around.

If KMA (Kia Motors America) does this, I would be fine if they at least sanded, primed, and re-sprayed the bumpers so they would match. No problems at all doing that. BUT, just like was mentioned, this is Kia NZ. I really hope KMA (Kia Motors America) takes note and does this. Would make me a dam happy Stinger owner to have everything match when it's done.
To say there is no problems with the bumper is also false. The bumper near the headlights is a problem as I now have missing flakes at both headlight and two small chips on the bumper that are black which really shows up on a yellow car. Shows up worse than the white on the body does.
I could definitely see them looking at the headlight rubbing as a paint issue and repaint it anyway for you. To them, the yellow paint is FUBAR so any other irregularities with it (whether based on the paint defects or simply headlight rubbing) they'll likely repair/repaint.I spoke to Kia this morning and they reiterated that they would NOT spray the bumpers. The rep did tell me that she would note it and see if they could make it as part of a special request to get the front bumper, where the chips from the headlights are, redone.
We will see how it goes.
KIA .....Since you are reading these can we please get an announcement (is anything in the works?) of what might be done on the headlight/front bumper rub? It would make sense to prep/repaint at the same time these re-sprays are going on. Has this been corrected? I cannot advise a customer to ask to have a bumper repainted if the headlight will cause the same damage.I spoke to Kia this morning and they reiterated that they would NOT spray the bumpers. I was not advised of the "fall back" option but that is very NICE to know!!Just received "the call". The KIA motor rep was very thourough although she mention more details will be in the letter. Here's the option from how she explained it.
1. A full repaint which they will give you a loaner for the extent of the job. Upon getting back the car, you have 30 days to decide wheather your happy with the respray or you want to opt for the other 2 options. After 30 days and you decide to keep the car , KIA motor will send you a compensation check for electing to keeping the Sunset Yellow.
2. Get New Car. You know the rest.
3. Buy back.
Update... She said it would take around 1 month for paint to be completed.
Question here is - who will be the first to get the paint and advise with pics...AND...still no info on what shops will be doing the workYeah it's nice that you got the call later since you could go into it with questions and info we had thrown around on here. I want that dam letter!! LOL!
If that amount is really what they offer.......That's REAL hard to turn down, even for a buyback and looking for a 2019 later...... Kia definitely surprising us if they really do that.
I too had them add my clear bra and tint to the list in case of buyback.I got the same exact call today also..going over the options and verifying my address and such. I also asked her about my spoier and clear bra and remote start that I had installed and she put them n the notes and asked how much each one cost me. The remote start she said was already in there since i purchased it from the dealer.. I also told he what prompted me to get the clear bra was rock chips on my BUMPER with emphasis on bumper and she said that was put in the notes also..so we will see what happens. Mine also now has the flaking near the healights, so the repaint option will not be a viable option to me and I will let them know that up front.
Fairly good amount IMO...would also like to see this as re-imbursement (no tax) but who knows. To be honest id really like to see 7500 - 10000. I suppose i can wish! $5K is on the line for me. However, IF the "fall back" options are in play its a great start. IF they cover my clear bra re-install i could go for that as well. NEED to see the official offer in writing.5000 sounds like very fair compensation, but it needs to be considered payment for loss in value after the repaint. That's just it: are there "many" asking the same questions? This thread involves very few people. Multiplying this thread will still be only a very few people. Perspective says that Kia cares about a very few people and how they feel and are treated. But let's not assert that any pressure is being put on Kia because of a very few, angry customers. (That's why threats of a group action lawsuit don't fly even to the door.) This reaching out by Kia to those affected is Kia's smart move to advance their rep as a customer satisfaction-based company.Hopefully many of us asking the same questions will yield a better result.

It was not reference as a fall back per say. I think no matter what you decide , KIA will repaint the car regardless to clear it for resale. She was very adamant that KIA Motors was really hoping everyone chooses the Repaint option hence the fluffing of their offer. Other 2 options I believe would cost them more dollars.
Agreed, a buyback will cost them north of 55K for a GT2 once you factory taxes and fees and registration...this not including any "options" covered at goodwill either. For my specific GT2 and including my tint and clear bra and taxes and fees, they would be looking at 58K or so. To repaint at $7-10K and give me another 10K to keep me happy is still net almost $40K they get to keep...Absolutely it will cost them WAY more to do a replacement or buyback, even throwing us $5000-7500 each, on top of the repaint. Consider an average buyback price of $45,000 and there is ~300 or so actually purchased.... To buyback all of those would be over $13 MILLION which isn't chump change and something they would take lightly. Repainting all 400 cars and throwing the ~300 owners a $5,000 check is only $4.5 million.....
You don't need to be an accounting or business major to figure out which option they want everyone to take. Seeing it all written out in this fashion, it's even more awesome that Kia is offering the other 2 options.
I am going to call the Rep who is in charge of my case. List some question you would like me to ask her as it relates to the three options.
Thats an interesting one. My professional opinion would be that the negative equity would not be included as that is not DIRECTLY related to the purchase of this vehicle. That is money owed PRIOR TO the Stinger transaction.Question regarding the buy back. What happens to negative equity that was rolled into the purchase or lease of these if the owners take a buy back
The good thing is you have until you November payment to pay down your negative equity and get closer to even. Keep making payments and wait until then to choose a buyback.Question regarding the buy back.
