I think Kia has done a good job of taking care of their customers. No other manufacturer I know of that has had paint problems would repaint and give you $5K. Some other manufacturers would't even repaint the car. No other manufacturer I know of would buy back the car for paint problems much less pay off the car and give you the money for prior payments plus accessories you bought for the car.

exactly this. I have 2k on my Stinger and I don't have a single chip, knock on wood, and if I had peeling/50+ chips right now I also would be unhappy, but guess what, this is life and nothing is perfect. Every single car manufacturer has had issues with paint at some point, many have paint issues right now, many of these cars are 2x the price of the Stinger. I've never once heard of ANY of them offering repaint+$5k, I've never heard of ANY of them willing to do a full buy back including mods. Yeah in some cases they could have gotten this done faster, but Jesus to say in the end they didn't take care of you makes absolutely no sense. Of course this isn't directed toward the couple of people that haven't been able to get resprays.

Wait for a 2019 (maybe), it seems ALL colors are flaking and only the yellows were covered. I feel bad for the other owners, IMO ALL should be covered by a repaint on a case by case basis if paint is flaking off. Paint process can't be flawed only on one color, should be on all colors.

that's not true, there has been some issues with all the colors but the majority of each color probably has no issues, my white is flawless and many others on here have had no problems. The yellow was the only color where every single car had paint issues. They're helping other people with paint issues in other colors, but not to the same level of the yellow owners unfortunately.

You're stretching this a bit. Paint failures like the one that plagues the Stinger are not common.

And it is the dealerships "dealing" poorly which is being conflated with Kia's intentions.

This is only true for a portion of the 'intent' Kia had. Kia has done SHIT by me, and the 'rep' I was assigned won't even speak to me anymore after he got an attitude with me about me wanting the entire car painted and not some 'rattle-can sandpaper 50% paint job' that Kia was offering. I bought a dam yellow for a reason, I DONT WANT ANOTHER COLOR, so just fix it. Buyback, replace, 'hush money' are just legal 'cover their ass' bonuses because they knew that not controlling the repaint 100% was going to cause problems. Everyone with a yellow here called it, and it's happened.

The DEALER that is local to me has done all of the extra work to make sure I am happy with the car. Read that again, THE DEALER, did the extra work to make sure I am happy with the car. KIA has done not 1 dam thing except give excuses and pass the buck on to someone else 'who can make this decision' instead of owning it 100% and making sure all of the customers are treated the same way and repainting the entire dam car to start with. @KiaofMuncie treated me amazingly well with my purchase, and Benson Kia of Spartanburg, my local dealer, has treat me amazingly well with the repaint even though I didn't buy there. Ask @Mach_Tuck what Kia/dealer told him? Ask @jondyer about his experience. You'll see that it swings for every single person, and there's plenty more I am forgetting about. Kia could have stopped it all and made it simple, but they chose not too.

Kia as a manufacturer has done absolutely SHIT except piss off customers and pass the blame for bad paint jobs when they could have avoided this entire situation completely from the start, controlled the whole process, and everyone would have been happier for it.

Disagree, take Kia's side, whatever you want, but it's the truth and a quick read through this thread and the Sunset Yellow thread will show that Kia gave us the shaft, no matter what options they offered. We had to fight for a yellow to begin with because of the 'Limited' BS, and then having to fight again because they screwed up something on the car, and depending on where you had to go for repaint it would be screwed up anyway. The whole situation is a CF from the start and it could have been avoided.

@gilthanis1 you will soon discover as I have that this board is rife with Kia apologists. Folks need to realize that the car can be nice and wonderful and the manufacturer's staff can still be composed of complete jackasses.

I feel the same way, the dealer where I bought the car is top notch. The two reps I dealt with, but are powerless in the grand scheme (and one since quit Kia) are nice enough. The area Kia NA person (whom I suspect is the same genius you dealt with and I was forced to deal with that I have somehow never managed to speak to or get a call from as promised) is a bit of a douche - personal opinion of course.

The dealer where the car was re-sprayed, well, let's just say I will vote with my wallet when it comes to them.

Overall, the process has left me with a bad taste, particularly towards Kia. Yes, there is the buyback and all, I get that. The point is that there is a thing called decency and money does not solve all ills.

I do suspect that the ones who choose to crap on my statement and yours above are in fact the lucky ones that have not had to deal with Kia. Perhaps some of them will not be quite so generous with their brand praise once this latest recall, that affects ALL Stingers gets going.

Time as they say, will tell.

I am debating. The paint was very well done, and it was a complete repaint. Everything matches well. I do, however, feel that the shade may be ever so slightly lighter than it was. Now, I’ve seen 20 different yellows in person, and they are are slightly different in shade. But, I came to really love the exact shade I had. Also, it may make more financial sense to for me to consider a swap or a buyback and then buy a new GT or GT2.

Any pix you can post?

It is hard to tell from pics from diff cameras, but yours looks lighter (less depth) than the stock yellow I saw in person.

I agree. It was painted well, for sure. Bumper to bumper. But it is missing that “pop” it once had. It’s almost like it is too vibrant and not “deep” enough.

Looks a bit faded

I don't believe so. Many, even most Yellows have no paint adherence issues.

It'll be fine. Not perfect. Kia is being compared to other manufacturers, not judged in a vacuum. That's all. Nobody is saying that "all you all" who have had and are having bad experiences are mistaken or crazy. We deal with people. Expect the worst and be grateful when it doesn't happen. I've had two case numbers with Kia. Both were instantly handled, and both even received a callback (albeit months later) to make sure that the case numbers were closed successfully.

Not a Kia apologist, just stating it as I see it. Ford had trouble with paint on their hoods, they didn't offer repaints. You had to fight with Ford to get a repaint and then it was just the hood if you could even get it done. No extra cash after repaint and definitely no buy back option. GM had the same problem in the 80's and offered nothing.. BMw's have had paint problems, Mercedes has.. I don't recall any manufacturer with paint problems offering resprays with extra cash or buybacks. No manufacturer is going to be perfect and some cases will slip through the cracks, sorry it just happened to you. The power of the wallet is your only defense. I really liked my yellow and settled for a GT to get that color. If I wanted another yellow car, I would then go elsewhere. I liked the car enough to go with my second choice in color and got into a GT2 for less than I bought the yellow GT for thanks to them buying it back and giving me my payments back I had made on it. That is more than you can expect from any manufacturer with a non safety issue.

Is that the yellow undercoating they made mandatory to use?

It should be, since they specifically said not to go back with the original white primer.

Got the car. Absolute s#$t show! I'm online now processing the buyback. What a disgrace. Kia cheaped out on a repaint and now lost a customer. Paint is not a good match, it's lighter than original color. Hard to see in pix but it was so obvious when looking at how brilliant the shark fin antenna is and how flat the roof paint looks. I understand now what ballsawesome (Scott) was saying. The side skirts are a different shade as well, and the masking of the paint line on the inside of the doors are rough and visibly scuffed. Alignment issues with some panels as well. Terrible.20181107_141435.webp

I honestly can't tell it's even been repainted in the pictures, thankfully Kia is willing to buy it back from you.
