Hard to see un the pix. Confirmation was my wife noticed the difference before I did! She usually doesn't notice anything! Lol. She told me "If I can see the difference you know it's not good". The paint line in the door jams isn't even tape, it feels like paint that blistered alk along the line, you can see the paint all coarse like along the line. It's terrible! Looks like the fuel door isn't flush with the qtr panel and the rear bumper is inset compared to qtr panel. Shoddy work.

Got the car. Absolute s#$t show! I'm online now processing the buyback. What a disgrace. Kia cheaped out on a repaint and now lost a customer. Paint is not a good match, it's lighter than original color. Hard to see in pix but it was so obvious when looking at how brilliant the shark fin antenna is and how flat the roof paint looks. I understand now what ballsawesome (Scott) was saying. The side skirts are a different shade as well, and the masking of the paint line on the inside of the doors are rough and visibly scuffed. Alignment issues with some panels as well. Terrible.View attachment 14865
So sorry

Jesus h dude.... its almost like they didnt even try, or did it as fast as possible just to get the car back to you. Unfortunately, from what I was told locally, thats all Kia does. Pressure the hell out of the dealer and shop to 'just get the car done and back to the customer' without any regard for it being done correctly.

I hate you have to go through the buyback process, because I know I wouln't want too.

I gotta tell ya, I woke up SOOOO Disappointed. I really loved this car, probably my favorite I've ever had, but SOOOOO pissed off at how Kia half-assed the repaint process. They should've repainted the ENTIRE car, spent the extra money, and had satisified customers who would KEEP the car when done! As a result of their not give a crap approach, they now have to pay me back every penny invested in the car (at least $5K according to my records), buy the car back from Kia Motors Finance ($37K), and they've dump about $8K into a crap paint job already. Total that all up and Kia will have at least $50K wrapped up in a $42K stickered car that has a crap paint job. SMART APPROACH KIA! I have no idea now what to get. The Stinger met all of my needs, nothing else out there at this price that rides as nice, has AWD, nice looks, and unique. I may wait to see what kind of deals the 2019's have, after confirming Kia FIXED their paint process issues. Good luck with your cars to all of my fellow owners!

You can get a 3 year old 6 series gran coupe for the same price. 455hp and 479ft-lb. 3 year old ones with low miles are under 40K US.

sure, and then you'll be begging for paint problems compared to the mechanic bills you'll be looking at out of warranty lol.

After my 330 I'll never touch another BMW outside of warranty.

I haven't heard of any issues with the 2019 models and my white 2018 doesn't have a mark in it yet (build date 3/18). If it were me, I would drive that yellow Stinger for as long as possible and then do the buy back, maybe by then we'll know more about current paint quality.

Hey, you weren't supposed to bring maintenance costs up. :cautious:

very sad in this paint process... i said it before and i'll say it again. i would just let them take it back. no painting, no anything. i have a small issue with mine and it is DRIVING ME NUTS. so much that i'm trying to trade it in to avoid the never ending thought in my mind that it is flawed. i've never had a car come back from paint work and everythign be perfect.

Got a call from my local dealer and they needed to take pictures of the Stinger as the place that painted it forgot to take pictures with the Kia rep. My salesman came by the house, he was a friend of my son's, and when he saw the car he couldn't believe how bad it was. He pointed out things I had not seen because I was so aggravated I just put the car in the garage and shut the door. He noticed my taillight was scratched, there was over spray inside the rear door, and did confirm the fuel door was not aligned properly as he brought a blue Stinger with him and it was much better than mine. He also saw all of the paint color differences. He asked if he could take the car back to the dealership, I agreed. He had four other reps from the dealer look at it and all of them agreed it was awful. I'm going to get online and leave that note in my case which will further justify the buyback and how poor RK Collision did on my paint work.

I think there should be a poll of who has kept the car vs. who has turned it back in. That would be very enlightening.

Perhaps there should be a sub poll for folks who kept it and fixed it on their own, or plan to. That would be very interesting data to have.

Isn’t wild how our dealerships are often far more proactive than Kia Corporate? Hopefully, they take care of you.

This would be great, but in order to make sure that it is correct, and not sullied by anyone who wishes to joke around, it may be best to do something that includes Vin numbers.

What?? Pranksters here? Never!

......

That might work. I am one of those oddballs that knows the VINs of most of my cars, so that would work for me but I am not sure how many of us there are out there.

Someone started a Vin log a while back. Maybe StungTN. I don’t recall.

The interesting part will be if we can break it down by who kept it after repaint, but if they were leasing or purchased. A lease is a little easier to swallow some imperfections, pocket the $5k and turn it back in after a couple more years, at least it would be for me. A purchase on the other hand, we've already dove headfirst in with the notion to keep it, so unless it's perfect once it's finished we would be much less likely to keep it.

Leased then purchased.
Repaint is good ... car is awesome
No one will ever notice small paint issues.
Will check back in 8 years when it’s time to replace. New paint job has lifetime guarantee btw.
5k check was gravy

Got my blue GT2 back today after a 3 week repaint. Looks amazing.
Kia picked up the tab for my lime green fiesta rental. Good to be back in the Stinger!
Now i have to avoid chips for 60 days until PPF can be applied.
New paint job has life time warranty from the body shop.

Tonka, what shop did you use? I have approval for the bumper and want to look at my options

So I have a hichroma red. I had some issues with the paint peeling under the driver side headlight. Kia repainted it and it was horrible. The dealer I go to, Tempe Kia, is amazing. They let me pick the shop so I went with a shop my detailer recommended. The first body shop commented on how bad the paint was on the bumper. They said the Suntek ultra literally peeled off the paint it was so soft.

So I’ve been dealing with Kia consumer affairs. I told them that if the bumper is this crappy, the rear of the car will be. So I requested a buyback. So far I passed one layer of review and I am going to the next level rep. So hopefully that’s a good sign.

@DiabloStinger whats going on with your paint?

@Never thought I still have to take this one to the shop to get done. I'm going to have them take a close look at the front bumper to check for signs of weakness there. Still 50/50 on changing to a gt2 so I'm waiting to see if that happens before I paint the hatch.
