@Never thought I still have to take this one to the shop to get done. I'm going to have them take a close look at the front bumper to check for signs of weakness there. Still 50/50 on changing to a gt2 so I'm waiting to see if that happens before I paint the hatch.
Would a buyback make sense? If so, I’d at least request one. I also have an attorney on standby if Kia denies my request. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

So I have a hichroma red. I had some issues with the paint peeling under the driver side headlight. Kia repainted it and it was horrible. The dealer I go to, Tempe Kia, is amazing. They let me pick the shop so I went with a shop my detailer recommended. The first body shop commented on how bad the paint was on the bumper. They said the Suntek ultra literally peeled off the paint it was so soft.

So I’ve been dealing with Kia consumer affairs. I told them that if the bumper is this crappy, the rear of the car will be. So I requested a buyback. So far I passed one layer of review and I am going to the next level rep. So hopefully that’s a good sign.

@DiabloStinger whats going on with your paint?
Build date?

Update: Finally a chance to take a shot of my "repair." Note ripples/bubbles and color difference.

Success! I took my baby in last Friday to have the new roof molding installed. It's a good paint job, and matches perfectly. Thanks to Olive at my dealership and Shelby on the escalations team for their help! (It evidently takes a team of women to get these things done. ;)) No picture—it just looks like it's supposed to, and that doesn't really show up.)

Eljay,

Were you offered financial compensation on top of the respray, exchange option? I've seen comments that KIA of America offered $5,000, "goodwill adjustment." Really this covers them for someone coming after them for a diminished value claim for the CarFax branding that will inevitably occur. I also was told by a dealership service employee this amount is $6,500. Thoughts anyone?

No, this was just a replacement of the roof ditch molding which they had to paint before installing it. I'd reported a small paint chip, and the DPSM looked at what might have been a Kia problem, or might have been a rock chip, and offered to have the strip repainted as a "good will gesture." The dealer's paint shop botched that (bad color match, ripples), and before I'd even seen it, my service rep had ordered a new molding that had to be painted before installation.

Not worth a sizeable "goodwill adjustment"—well, maybe a free oil change or Amazon gift card (hint hint Kia!), but not real money. And I did get a free part.

The repaint failure continues as KMA has all but rejected my issues, stating nothing is wrong. Complete and utter bullshit.

MattRain, I would personally start looking into buyback options and express that litigation may ensure if they don't buy in (state legal action after you get a no from them). That paint job is horrendously unacceptable, looks to be uncured clear coat to my eye, it doesn't look well bonded to the paint.

I have about 1500 miles and almost 2 months on my repaint and no rock chips. Its like this new paint is magic and stays on the car!
PPF in a week, almost there.

That's great news! You deserve a completely satisfying paint job after all you've been through!

Mcleod Auto body in Kirkland Wa. They were awesome. Kia is trying to make our repaints suck by limiting time and cost the bodyshop can have. Luckily Mcloud didn't get the memo until after the job was done. Mcleod said you couldnt do a decent job following Kias specifications.

You can get a 3 year old 6 series gran coupe for the same price. 455hp and 479ft-lb. 3 year old ones with low miles are under 40K US.
Would that be the same 640i Gran Coupe I drove at the Stinger Experience? Car is a boat to drive. 3 year old boat with 50k miles? Yuck.

I hope my repaint goes as good as yours Tonka. I drop it off tomorrow.

I believe all kia is repainting is the bumper and hood (which will only take a week according to them). So we will see.

I picked up a nice chip on my drivers side door right above that body line(the one just below the mirror) about half way down on the door.

@MattRain Welcome to the disenfranchised Kia Stinger owners club lol I completely agree with your sentiment and I'm sorry to see I'm not the only one Kia keeps refusing to acknowledge issues for.

I don't even remember the last time or how many pages back my last post in here was, I was planning on waiting until I heard something from Kia to give an update. I was told I'd get a "cash settlement" for the troubles they put me though over the past year with my case being closed several times, shifted around, and ultimately rejected. Still haven't heard anything from them about this since my last post. And here they had done so good on getting back to me on a semi-random 3 week cadence.

This seems to be a very heavily US thread, have there been any Stingers in canada experience the same paint issues?

Mine is a Canadian Stinger (Alberta). I've experienced some issues that I've never had on previous cars. I had paint "peeling" on plastic parts, under the driver side headlight and on the driver side skirt. I touched up the side skirt but not the headlight and neither have gotten worse over the 2700kms I've put on it in 3 months. I have those paint "bubbles" in the doors other have noticed. I have 1 substantial rock chip I've found, but living where they lay down gravel I can't say for sure if this is a paint issue or just par for the course. I will have a better idea in the spring when I give the car a full run down and detail as I normally do when I fine tooth comb the paintwork. If none of my issues get worse then I'll simply consider them "factory defects" and not systemic issues on the paint. If the spring clean up show a substantial amount of chips above what I've ever experienced, I may consider the paint possibly defective...it all depends.

I did notice another Stinger (2018 build) at my dealership with much worse paint peeling under the driver headlight, it was ugly. A blue one had no rubbing under the headlight that I could find. I only looked at 3, but I'll probably look again in 2 or 3 months when I'm due for service.
