Decent Braided Steel Brake Lines?

Got ya. Should've looked at your sig. All good.

Yeah, if the 2.5T was available when I bought mine back in '20, I would've seriously considered it. As I was buying the car for eventually handing over to my 2nd son, the 3.3T was out of the question. :)

Anyhow, sorry for hijacking the thread.
Lol, nice...I spent over $3k for my upgrade, but went with all premium components and had them powdercoated- which in retrospect was a bit of a disaster trying to source replacement seals and dust boots. This is also the reason why the backs are getting done in a few weeks as I only received the Centric kits for the rears a few weeks ago, when I ordered them in June
ALSO for 2023 you can order the Apex kit? And get the Brembos on the 2.5T for a lot cheaper and less headaches...but they'll still be red, which I don't really like on a a green car, like mine.

The Apex Edition would have been a superb bargain if you could have it alone for $1000, but unfortunately it requires the $2300 Sun & Sound package. I'm sure there are lots of drivers who would want sunroof and upgraded audio, but I am very glad neither our Stinger or G70 has sunroof. Too many reports of it spontaneously explode, apparently for no reason. There is another one just this week posted on G70. Dunno if just thinner glass they used. Regardless, I would also not want to give up any more headroom. At AutoX/track, my helmet just clears the roof, with the seat pretty much lowered all the way down, and I'm not that tall. Plus the extra weight and reduced torsional rigidity is not worth it in my book. If I were to get a 2.5T, I'd get the plane jane and do my own Brembo conversion.

BTW, dunno about the Stinger, but green G70s come with grey Brembos. That's the same with other Genesis models too.

What had me worried is if you look up stock rubber brake hoses for the Stinger and Genesis Coupe you'll find they're different lengths. Here's lengths I pulled from Rock Auto:

I'm sure they use the same hose ends, but having brake hoses that are too short seems no bueno to me. Even the one photo on the khartunerz listing shows the braided steel front line visibly shorter than the OEM:

Valid concern. If you look at the other pic on their website, it does look like it could use a couple more inches. That said, the section on the right side of the mid-span locator bolt is fixed and can be kept as short as possible. It certainly does not need to be raised that high to make the "S" bend like that. When I do my install, I might look at possibly swapping L-R side lines, so that locator bracket swings to the bottom (instead of top in the pic). That should give the left side of the line more length to move. Either that, or add a bracket to relocate the mid-span bolt to an optimum position. Not a difficult problem to solve.

That said, either way should be fine, from what I can see. The suspension travel on the Stinger/G70 isn't that much. If this were a truck or SUV, I'd worry.

If you look at the stock rubber line, it doesn't swing that high an arc. Also the soft rubber line needs a larger bend radius to work well, or else a kink might form. That is the reason for the stock line to have that apex stiffener band, seen below. Stainless steel lines aren't susceptible to that.

Here’s another option for you.
I picked these up and was happy with purchase and install. They shipped next day air from the UK to the US which was a nice surprise. Lots of color options.

I noticed the price has increased drastically. I purchased for £71 plus £18 shipping back in ‘20.

Wow that was a good price, it’s now doubled since then, inflation has really gripped the world, this set is now AU$263.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
So I took a chance and ordered the Concept 3 Performance brake hoses as they looked like a quality piece, and in the pictures looked a bit closer to the correct size. The size does indeed seem closer to OEM Stinger hoses at 21.5" front and 13.5" rear (measured full length - including hose and fittings).

Unfortunately they did not come with any clamp/bracketry for the front lines to attach to the steering knuckle , even though their description says "Brackets and Fasteners Included". I emailed them about it and will post here after I get a response from them.

After seeing @Hawk853 's post about the hosetechnik braided lines I just ended up ordering a set of those, and I'm glad I did. They look great, are the right length and come with the bracket and grommet to hold them onto the steering knuckle just like the OEM ones.

Also I talked to Ryan at Forge Motorsports/hosetechnik and he added the U.S. as a shipping option on the website, so I was able to order them online and didn't have to go through any hassle with custom shipping quotes. Delivery from the U.K. to U.S. east coast only took 4 days.

I'll update this thread once I install them in the coming weeks, need to get this car ready for track day season!

I'll probably be listing the Concept 3 lines up for sale soon as well.

Those look real nice, how much?

$202 shipped, not cheap but less than the Concept 3 lines.
If you’re looking for a great fluid check out Castrol SRF. I flushed the whole system with it when I did the line install.

Did you ever sell those Concept 3 lines? I got to the shop for all my needs. I’ll probably end up getting those and report back on how they are since I will be upgrading my whole brake system in a few weeks.

I actually ended up installing the Concept 3 lines. Whatever hosetechnik sent me was not for a Stinger, the fittings were completely wrong. I'm very happy with them and they are probably the closest ones out there to matching the length and fitting style of the OEMs.

Yes. Both cars have gotten mostly identical mods so far.

Highly recommend Brembo conversion. It is a must do IMO. If I can have only one mod done, I would value it above the JB4, or any of the suspension mods I've got. Granted, the enhanced braking is felt much more at the track, but even for every day driving, pedal response is much more linear and easier to modulate. I would even consider it a major appearance upgrade.

Granted, Brembo calipers have gotten a bit pricier these days. Now that everybody knows it can be done fairly easily, the demand has gone up. Most used sets I've seen are around $1k, so by the time you add rotors (and the rear dust shields, if you want to) plus other sundry items, it's $1500+. Even at the price, IMO it is still a performance bargain.

You can always do just the front and get 70-80% of the overall performance.
Hey, I’m planning on doing the Brembo conversion shortly! I just want to make sure I’m getting everything I need. So are the rear dust shield’s optional? Also did you use the stock brake lines from the 2.0T?

When I first did the conversion, I just bent the stock rear dust shields to clear the larger Brembo rotors. I drove it like that for many months, with no problem.

It wasn't until I later bought an LSD from a G70 and needed to remove the half shafts that I replaced the 2.0T's stock rear shields with a set of OEM rear shields meant for the larger Brembo rotors.

I would say you'd be fine just bending the rear dust shields, if you so choose.

There are some high performance sports cars ans sport sedans that don't have dust shields from the factory. Neither do most race cars.

The stock 2.0T brake lines fit on the Brembos just fine. I did get braided stainless steel lines, but that's definitely optional.

Thanks for the help! Also what rotors and pads did you end up going with?

On the 2.0T, I bought Carquest Platinum vented solid rotors from Advance Auto. Unless you want the racy looks of drilled and/or slotted, plain old solid vented rotors have better structural uniformity, less stress risers, and produce more uniform temperature gradient in in high brake load usage.

Brake pads are the far more important piece in the brake puzzle and, as such, require much more deliberation on what might work best for the most severe type of driving the car is likely to experience. I knew mine was going to see full-on track day events, so I went with EBC Bluestuff. You will have to decide for yourself what might work best for your application.

The combination work quite well for me. This is after the last of four 20-min sessions at MSR Cresson back in 2022. The rainbow hues on the rotor was micro deposits of brake pad material, which occurs as part of the bedding in procedure with the Bluestuff. This allows the brake pads to ride against itself, instead of the rotor's raw cast iron. this produces the best braking force and wear characteristics for track running.

BTW, I just realized I need to update my earlier posts in this thread regarding the StopTech brake lines. FWIW, I find them to fit quite well and have no concerns about them been too short. In fact, I almost wish the rear braided hose were a bit shorter than they are, but still... the bend and routing is not a whole lot different compared to the stock rubber hoses.

Note that I'm running Coilovers, so the suspension travel is more limited. With stock struts, even with lowering springs, the "unloaded" suspension travel will be a good bit more. Still, the pics below are at the greatest suspension extension, and the way they sit, I really don't think another 2-3 inches lower would necessarily causes any binding issues.

Thanks, I really appreciate all the advice! Also I love the rims! I saw you said you had coilovers on your 2.0T, I was planning on putting a set on mine as well. What did you end up going with?
