Seemingly a common issue (when closed) of Hyundai Sonata with panoramic sunroof. You can visit Sonata forum to read about the complaints and frustrations from many owners. Not sure if this is also a common problem with Optima's pano roof. I think this may be one of the reasons why Hyundai dropped pano roof altogether on 2018 Sonatas. Having said that, I understand Stinger will not get a pano sunroof but the form-factor and how it operates (the glass panel portion raises and slides back on top of the roof) really looks awfully like the one in the Sonata and Optima. If I am paying at Stinger price point I do not want to hear popping or creaking sound at any speeds. Especially, if the source of the noise is only less than a foot from your ears. Please share your experience about this issue.

I have an 2013 optima with the pano roof. Never heard any noises..
If you really want to worry yourself, Google exploding sunroofs and see how many Kia and Hyundai sunroofs spontaneously explode.

Glad to hear your positive experience. Thanks :)

After driving with a sunroof for 13 years and hardly ever using it, I definitely don't want a sunroof on my next car. Such a large mechanical device with a slab of glass attached to the roof is naturally prone to malfunction, and they tend to produce rattling noises while driving.

When you make them even larger (panoramic), that can only exacerbate the problem.

I wish car manufacturers would make sunroof available as a stand-alone option but not exclusive to higher trim offerings. So we can just check or uncheck the box ourselves.

I have a pano sunroof on my 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo, and I hear nary a sound from it. No problems with it whatsoever.

Good to hear you’ve had no issue with it. I guess the problem seems isolated to A group of unfortunate Sonatas only.

A horror story: brother-in-law's wife got a face full of glass and asphalt in a rollover.

I have a 2014 Kia Optima SX Turbo and the pano roof makes so much noise that I'm beginning to regret the car.....I plan to take it to the dealer this weekend and see if they can fix it. I'm concerned because it seems that many have tried taking the car to the dealer and the dealer can't figure out the problem. Look up "optima pano roof creaks" and you will see all the results. It could just be that I'm part of a small unlucky group, but it seems way more common than it should be.

Also kia Cadenzas, sorentos and the new generation optimas have the issue.

The problems seem scattered ...some owners are lucky but many aren’t. And many cases, dealership didn’t seem to be able to fix it right the first time. I posted this question in Australian thread since they are the first to receive the car. Hopefully, we will hear from them soon.

Hyundai/Kia should consider removing the pano roofs from their line up and just use a standard sunroof. Its not as cool but at least the rattles would be less.

I'm almost certain this issue has been remedied in the newer vehicles. I don't see/hear Genesis G80 or G90 owners complaining...

I would definitely wait a year or two after the launch of the stinger to make sure this and other bugs are cleared. I had an optima LX and the interior was super silent, but the car was so boring. Upgrade to the SX turbo and there is so much noise it makes the car sound cheap, but its way more fun to drive. When I'm alone i just blast music, blocks out most of the noise, but not all. But when I have people in the car, i keep the radio down so we can talk and all you hear is popping and creaking from the sunroof.

Interesting. What year is your Optima? I know the 2015 Hyundai Genesis was having the same problem but the 2017 Genesis G80 does not.

Hi, before my Stinger my ride was a Sonata 2.0 CVVL with panorama sunroof, I never had any noise or whatsoever, however some friends told me it was a common complaint, and with my new Stinger equipped as well with sunroof I also have nothing to complain about, maybe I was lucky, maybe I should check with an audiologist :) but seriously I don’t have any problem with it and I can see that most Koreans are selecting the sunroof option, there would be an issue that it would be known as the car is available here in Korea for many months now.

Awesome! This is what I’ve been waiting for...an experience from a Stinger owner. Thank you for sharing. You were lucky with your Sonata. If you and many Stinger owners in Korea have had no noise issues from the sunroof I guess we can assume Kia has already resolved it.
