Concerns - Popping/Creaking Noise from Sunroof

It was definitely a factor that helped push me into convincing the wife to try Genesis. The build quality in my GV 70 is really quite a bit higher. I felt like my stinger was built to be awesome but not necessarily stay awesome LOL. My 2022 Civic feels five times more solid than the stinger. Coming out of a driveway you could just feel the body twist and interior parts shuffling around. The Honda dnd genesis don’t flex like that

The driveway twisting creak was the original interior noise on my Stinger. It was a sign of things to come, as my sunroof got increasingly louder the months after that driveway noise began. From then on, my Stinger was on borrowed time.

3 years 8 months in all still ok the only change is the original contental tyres gave a much smoother ride than these michellin Ps4. At 37,000km though im juggling 4 cars.

I'm at 90.000 km and do have a few sounds over very rough roads, especially from hatch area or sometimes the sunroof but all in all I'm fine. If the roads are ok then I have no sounds. But I also do get the twisting creak when I go on/off my garage ramp. Only car of similar size I can compare it to is my previous VW Passat and I would say it's about the same.

This may have been asked before but are any new (2021) Stinger owners having problems with their sunroofs making noises. I wonder if the design of the sunroof was changed at all in the facelifted model.
I have it. Creak and the rattle in the roof. Brand new car. Less than a week old. 2022.

To me it's a sign of a platform destined to be discontinued when they dont make any efforts to correct stuff like this year to year.
Exactly. This thing won’t be around in a couple of years, IMO.

Just drove home my new 2022 from the dealership and was wondering what the heck I was hearing above the drivers side window. A guide google search and here I am. Lol.

This would have been great information about 10 hours ago.
I'm so looking forward to what seems to be a fun time with the service department.

Same here! And between 75-80 mph rattling sound at front passenger side windshield. Most annoying thing ever. Anyone know if this issue can ever fixed?

I had rattling from the sunroof and a popping noise coming from the headliner from the day I purchased my GT2 new. Multiple trips to the dealership and only temporary fixes lead to a case with the Kia Consumer Assistance Center. Took basically half a year to get a Kia tech scheduled to come to the service department at a nearby dealership. After riding in the car for a bit, he agreed both the headliner noise and noise from the sunroof were not normal. They ordered a whole new sunroof assembly and a brand new headliner. Had to wait awhile for the parts to come in, and then it was at the service department for three weeks for installation. Have had it back less than a week now, but all seems good finally. I'll know for sure if I don't hear anything weird after about a month or so of driving it.

Separate side note - I had some judder when braking - both when the car was new, and again after about 6,000 miles. They cut the rotors the first time, it was fine for a bit, then cut them again when it started happening again. Done by two separate service departments. I mentioned this to the corporate Kia tech that was assigned to my case when we were taking the ride, and he immediately said he was upset with what I just told him. He then explained to me that for the Stinger, if the stock rotors have less than 15k miles on them and there is an issue, they are supposed to be replaced outright by Kia service centers, never cut. So just any FYI on that. So he ordered four new rotors and also the euro-spec pads, which are softer than the US spec pads. He said the US spec pads are harder, so that they reduce brake dust, as they felt US customers would complain more about it. The problem is that the harder compound can mess with the surface of the rotors, causing the judder I was experiencing when braking. Supposedly the euro spec pads don't have that issue. So just an FYI on that.

Thank you for sharing this info so I know how to go about these issues.

Soft or hard (I seem to have it reversed in my head, US v. European spec), all I know is that Americans don't care if they stop as fast, they just want cleaner, quieter braking. So, yes, the European spec pads won't produce the same pad deposits issue on the rotors that you experienced, but they will probably be dustier and noisier.

Thank you so very much for detailing your efforts here. I am at my wits end with the popping noises from the sunroof that is getting worse over time and driving me nuts. Its there no matter if its closed/open, whatever. I took it to the dealer, they said they fixed it, they didn't do a damn thing to it. Its the same as before I brought it. I guess I will start this search with a google search for the Kia Consumer Assistance Center that you mention. Thanks again!

In all honesty as well, I am the type that will notice any and all defects on a car. I don't know for sure what started it but maybe it was my type spent working in quality control, I was asked with scrutinizing the compliance of parts down the thousandth of an inch, surface quality, even mistakes made by manpower (not signing things).

I have also recently undergone audiometric testing and I am still within the realm of "no degradation" of hearing. Combine the mental predisposition of expecting quality with a strong sense of hearing and then compound that with an attunement to extraneous noises in vehicles owning many which exhibited such noises and you have me, a recipe for disaster. I was of two minds with the Stinger, one was to try to ignore any noises that pop up, but two was to address any noises I hear with the dealer immediately due to the "adjustment warranty" which I thought would negate the dealer being able to refute pretty much any claims of deficient quality. The only dealer I have worked with so far has basically written me off with a "normal" diagnosis after 4 visits. In retrospect, I should have written some witty comment on the last service paperwork I signed stating something along the lines of "the problem is not remedied, I shall return at a later date."
I have bad hearing along with tinnitus; I qualify for hearing aids in both ears with the right being the worst. However the panoramic sunroof popping and crackling is right over my left ear and it's annoying. I bought my 2018 GT2 this past August and didn't have any issues until winter; the colder it gets, combined with Ann Arbor Michigan's abysmal roads is making it worse with each passing day. I'm going to try our local dealership but since I've only seen two other Stingers in the area I'm not having high hopes for resolution.

Idusseau, my problem is exactly as you describe and similar to you it seems affected by the temperature, which to me could point to the resolution you have linked above. Thanks for this link. I am going to bring it up to the Kia tech when they decide to send one out.

Mine got worse as the temperature dropped too. I'd love to know the "why", but if not I'm ok as long as the service procedure makes it go away.

Anyone have the dealership do this service and was it successful?

I doubt it, since it isn't an approved fix for Stingers. And, our sunroof doesn't have that cross-member as it's just one big open area. The creaking in the Stinger is coming from the perimeter or the glass itself.

All that being said, the fix that is shown is exactly what I suggested two years ago as a plausible fix for our issue. Just put the tape between the sunroof frame and the body of the car all the way around. But this will be time-consuming and costly (labour), so KIA would prefer we just suffer/put-up with the creaking.
