Hi all, I've seen a lot of threads about the topic of cleaning your valves, but not a lot of clear consensus. I was wondering if anyone knows enough to tell me if I right to do the following:

I have a can of CRC Intake and Valve cleaner, and I want to shoot it in through a spot where I've seen a G70 owner do it (although I've never seen anyone straight up say that it was right).

Take a look at the pic. I want to spray the cleaner in the plastic end that I'm pointing at (once I remove the tubing of course)

Is this right?

That's how I did it, however I never got a look at the valves before or after to see if there was any difference. Was pretty smoky but I feel like putting anything like that through your engine would result in smoke.

I would pull/push the can nozzle in and out while spraying to make sure it gets to all the cylinders.

Thanks for the comments, I think I will try it there. Yeah, I have seen white smoke in other videos where ppl performed this service, so that should be OK. And I will definitely play around with the nozzle to try and distribute evenly. I only have a little less than 10k kms, so I don't suspect much buildup anyway. I'm going to do this every 5k or so, overkill I know, but worth the price in piece of mind IMHO

I assume you change your oil just after this "service" right?

Yes, this will be my plan moving forward. Its overkill but I don't mind. Every 5k, oil change and filter, Tactron, CRC Valve Cleaner
That’s what I’ve been doing. I figure anti-coking is better that decoking later. I do the Techron the fill-up before the next oil change.

I figured the same as you. Less worrying about the maintenance of the car means more enjoyment behind the wheel

I’m trying this tomorrow how did it work? Using that intake port?

Don't waste your time and money. It doesn't do sh...t.

^^^ agree. don't waste time and money. If you use quality gas and keep your oil changed regularly, this shouldn't be an issue until 100k miles plus.

I hear ya but a can of that is like 10 bucks? So wasted time and money as a matter of perspective I guess
Just to follow along ohiocruiser's line of thinking...

One could argue that it *could* hurt, a case of the cure being worse than the disease. The risk in dumping chemicals into the intake path / cylinders should never be taken lightly. The risk of actually causing damage to the engine doing this, while not great/guaranteed, is also not zero. Having slight buildup on the back of the valves doesn't actually cause the engine that level of potential or realized harm, it just creates inefficiency long term.

Certainly some discretion can and should be exercised. Is the problem so great it warrants this particular treatment?

I hear you it’s that a 50-50 logic I’m trying to get through dealer says all GDI engines are really dirty and says it’s a good idea to do funny though they don’t offer that particular service you think they would if the hundred thousand mile warranty was in jeopardy overtime right

you can have all the perfect gas etc, and valves on these cars do NOT get cleaned. Direct injection by-passes the top of valves. That is why they make the stuff... There is nothing to wash over the top.

So, the "experts" can compare to muffler lube all day... If you keep up on it early and often it will help! If you wait too long, walnut blasting is only fix I can think of.

Dude!! That's f.... genius right there!! You should go work for any major automotive company. Those morons are wasting billions on dual injection systems, when all you have to do is spray some cat piss into intake and.....BAM!....problem solved. And to anyone spraying (cleaners, holy water, Pepsi..etc) just remember, once your car starts misfiring, around 100k-150k miles, dont automatically blame spark plugs for it. It is a time to remove intake manifold and clean the valves.

Pretty sure nowhere in my answer did I say "BAM PROBLEM SOLVED". Oh and I would be curious when the STINGERS started getting dual injection systems.. I'll wait. You just proved my point, thanks
