Burger Tuning JB4 for Kia Stinger!

Installed the Denso plugs, JB4 with fuel wires, bluetooth connect and BMS intake. Went for a drive and the car felt entirely... stock. Not even any intake sound. WTH. Went home, checked all the settings and it looked good for Map 2. But not seeing any gain. So then I did the v8 firmware update because I can't tell what version came out the box and went for a drive...

Holy S**tballs! Now we're talking! I don't know what the deal was earlier... but now, WATCH OUT!

The JB4 keeps boost stock until oil/water are up to temp for safety reasons, beyond that post the log if you have any further issues and I can see where your boost is. :)

Is that a fixed feature or is it adjustable? I use it on my f250 so it's not a problem for me...

I had driven about 10 miles before I updated the firmware, some of it on interstate, so it should have been plenty warm. At the time I was seeing about 14-15psi boost max on JB4 connect.

14-15psi are tuned boost levels. Would need a JB4 log of any "lower boost" condition to check the specifics.

Aha...I'll try that...

Kind of a sudden question, but why is the strongest map of JB4 using +7psi of boost? is 17psi (assuming stock is 10psi) of boost the highest "safe" setting on stock turbos? (I see some other manufacturers use over 20psi of boost.. @.@)

Terry posted a few times that he didn't see any gains running higher boost than that, considering it's outside of the turbos efficiency range

I didn't know that it was a recurring question. :p
Thanks for the answer!

Boost is relative but over 18psi or so we stopped making additional power on the dyno.

Hello Terry, could you take a look at the attached log? Looks like timing is being pulled after I get into 4th. Could this just be bad gas or something else? I am using 93.

11-12psi is stock for RWD, and 18-19psi is pushing max efficiency of our tiny turbos, especially with stock exhaust.

The others running 20+psi are mostly using TBE and just trying to break HP records. They will undoubtedly break other things too, which BMS doesn’t want to risk just for a few more HP:confused:

The timing in each cylinder is relatively stable so I think the variations here are just mapped out rather than dynamically pulled.

Okay, thank you for taking a look. I was a little concerned when I saw that the timing dropped a bit, wasn't sure if something was wrong.

For those running the Bluetooth module with their JB4, it's just tapped wiring into the JB4 unit and no additional power supply required? That's what I get from the install videos. I like the idea of non-intrusive install and not running wires through the firewall.

That's correct.

Bluetooth powers off the JB4 box. But, OBDII runs through an existing grommet (or door jamb if you want a really easy way) to give the JB4 gateway side CANbus access.

Hey Terry, I just wanted to pick your brain a little more.

I wanted to try out Map 3 so I put 3.5 gallons of E85 in and topped off with 93(JB4 says its 22 E85, so I'll mix a bit more in next time). I logged a run and I am comparing it to a map 2 run from the day before and it looks like it was slower on map 3 even though the IAT is 30* less. Could you help me understand what is going on in these 2 logs? 59-101 on map 2 is 5.2 seconds where 58-100 on map 3 is 5.9 seconds(I realize it isn't a perfect comparison).

I appreciate your time and feedback on reviewing everyone logs.

You'd need to use a dragy to measure performance difference with any sort of useful accuracy. The map3 log looks much better to me in terms of making the same boost despite much colder weather and more timing.

Thats good to know, thank you for taking a look!

This may be a stupid question, but I just ordered the JB4 tune and I wanted to know if I will be stuck on Map 1 without having the mobile kit to change through maps.
