Burger Tuning JB4 for Kia Stinger!

Sorry if this isnt the right thread for my questions, mods please move it if needed.

I am completely new to ECU upgrades, tunes, whatever else. I've been reading up about the jb4 on here. Looking to invest in it. I dont care about drag times or track times. Just looking for better performance overall.

I plan on getting the jb4 with fuel wires, as well as the intakes on the website. I have borla exhaust installed. And will be re gapping stock plugs to the recommended. I fill up with 93 octane all the time. I've read map3 seems to be best so that's what I'll be running.

How hard is the install? Can I install it and forget about it? Or is there some sort of maintenance involved?
Will I have issues on my road trips doing 16 plus hours a day non stop?
And do I have to mix e85 or is that just for best performance?
And is there anything else I should buy and or change so I wont have any issues?

Easy to install, you’ll want the Bluetooth kit, too. I run Map 2 all the time.

It will depend on your gas quality if u will need E85.

Probably map2 is the best all around map for 93 octane. But you can experiment with higher octane and higher boost maps if you're bored. Install it quick and easy. No issues on road trips. I'd probably do the Denso plugs rather than regapping the stock ones, they are rather inexpensive and better IMHO.

Like Terry said, so far Map 2 is looking to be able set and forget it. Car responds well to it. If you wanted to run Map3 daily you might want a alky/meth injection kit as a safety net.

With the Bluetooth kit the maps switch under 5 seconds on the fly.

Bluetooth for sure....easy peasy install and removal if you want to take it out.....I put my jb4 in the car at about 400 miles on the clock....the jb4 is more smiles per gallon than you can imagine....all I have is K%N filter drop ins. I use 93 with some e85 with map 3....but really map3 doesn't hurt anything if you drive sane anymore than map2 or map1....you can drive in comfort mode even with these maps and have more ummph. Map2 is set and forget....order right now before they close....lol :) Wash

Thanks for the input everyone! Looks like I'll take your advice, get those plugs and go map2, set and forget. Looking forward to an even bigger smile per mile! I love this car more than my corvette z06 and that cost me 3x as much.

I am waiting to see when I can take my car to the dealership for that fire recall before purchasing and installing this.

You and me both ! Ive got an older z06 with a 402 stroker and a 150 shot.....the vette sits on the battery tender...and when I walk by I see a tear running down its red fender sometimes....lol
The Stinger when done right is fast smooth and quiet....if there was a definition of a street sleeper...this is it! You have got it down right! :) Wash

Found a diagnostic tool that has some of the logging parameters I've been wanting to add to the JB4. 2019 is going to be a great year for the Stinger! :)

Launch control with 10 pounds of boost at 5500 RPM ? :) Wash

Found the PIDs for cyl 2-6 timing and knock adaption in each cylinder. As suspected I can confirm the ECU is running individual timing adaption values per cylinder, continually pulling and putting back in timing to stay as close to knock threshold as it can. Just like all of the other modern platforms we work with like BMW.

The knock adaption values isolated are difficult to add to the JB4 logging so I'm starting with the raw timing timing values for now as they give us most of what we want anyway.

Generally the raw timing values will all agree across all cylinders, unless timing is pulled from one specific cylinder, and then you'll see that cylinders timing drop lower than the rest, and then build back up over a couple of seconds.

Still some work to go though. I'm not 100% sure I have the cylinder numbering right on it. I've noticed my cylinder3 continually pulls more timing than the rest, at all boost levels, so I'm not yet sure if that is just a noisy/hotter cylinder, or if there is an issue with the logging translation. Anyway, exciting times for those who want to explore the power boundaries. This also makes the JB4 much more valuable to customers running flash maps too as they can't get this data from any other publicly available tool. :)

So in dumb dumb terms it will do what for us haha?

If you don't know what it is already, probably nothing really. For those who are in to tuning and advanced metrics this will help you better custom tune your car.

Awesome Terry! When is it being built into the next release?

Shouldn't be too long. CANbus engine changes like this can trigger unintended bugs so need to ensure it's all working right.

No hurry for me...the present hex is badazz....smooth and powerful .....Thank you Terry for your hard work
Happy New Year :) Wash

Great news terry. The more info we can monitor the safer we can make the tunes.

Keep up the great work.

Does the jb4 have a knock counter for pinging? I had some pinging with my jb4 when I first got it. I switch to different gas station and started mixing E85 and have not had a issue since. When the weather gets nicer I want to start testing out some more fuels. I don’t want to do my testing by waiting till I hear pinging as that can damage the engine. Is there anything I can look for that will give me
A idea? I’ve seen you can look at the timing on the logs but I don’t really know what to look for. Any info would be great. Would be awesome if we had knock detection on the gauges on the app.
