Burger Tuning JB4 for Kia Stinger!

Hahaha... no worries brother... ask away..

0 mods thus far, I regretfully ordered the HKS plugs.. But will be going NGK instead. Springs are on their way and I am waiting for someone to have an in-stock intake..

Do you have any other mods? Sorry for all the random questions lol

Why ngk over hks? Good luck w the intake, i was told at least 3 weeks from k5optimastore, guess stingers must be selling well

Rumor has it, According to a certified Kia tech on here. The HKS's crack as well. Only relaying information.

I wonder if some stingers were shipped with bad plugs? I have around 15 WOT runs logged with jb4. No issues to report.

Got my JB4 today as well. Kinda like reading everyone’s posts on what they are doing or how they are doing it. This is going to be a little different for me cause I’m use to diesel tuning...... My twin turbo Cummins runs EFI live but am sure it’s the same principle for a gasser except for the black smoke out the rear. LOL! Will be really curious to see what Killa200 finds out.....

@Dustin, did you install the JB4 yet? Have you had any issues with yours?

@GTBrandon how many miles have you driven with the JB4 on so far?

@Killa200 have you tried the tune with 91/93 octane yet?

@jdouga have you experienced any issues with yours?

@RandallK any verification about which octane you're using? 91 or 93?

300 Hard Miles, 93 octane, no other mods. average outside temp 50 degrees. No issues to report.

I'm wondering if this is a octane specific problem people have reported. Maybe anything under 93 won't work.

That would sure suck for those with access to only 91 octane, like California...

Which NGK plugs are you planning to swap to?

I will swing by the gas station tonight to verify octane.

I have both a usb extension and a REV 3 comming tomorrow so that I can log.

And to @GTBrandon ’s point, I have had direct communication with a Kia tech along with an additional long cal tuner tech on HKS plugs.. I am not afraid of risk taking, but those stories will absolutely prevent me from using them.. And by the way.. who the *#%ck puts the manifold above the sparkplugs.... ughhhhhhh!!!!!

I feel the same way... Either bad or poorly gapped..

You may have been right when you said 91-93.

From their website:

Exxon Plus and Mobil Special SynergyTM Gasoline

Octane 89

Our midgrade unleaded gasoline was developed to meet the needs of vehicles that can benefit from a higher octane, such as some sport vehicles and high performance cars.

Exxon Supreme and Mobil Super+ SynergyTM Gasoline

Octane 91–93

Our premium grade unleaded gasoline was formulated with a higher octane level and additional detergent additives to meet the demands of some of today’s most advanced engines. It generally has an octane level of 93 but is blended with an octane level of 91 or 92 in certain areas of the U.S.

Here in Washington state the highest octane west of the Cascade mountain range is 92...the eastern side has intermittent places to find 93. I think you can get race gas at a few places around here, but not at a regular pump.

I need to find the equivalent NGK’s still..

Please update if you find suitable replacement NGKs! Read on Optima forums that some guys have gone on NGK 1422s with tunes and no issues. 1422s also happen to be stock Evo 10 plugs.

I believe those would only be applicable to the 2.0 motor...everything I've read so far seems to indicate the 3.3 runs a different plug from the 4cyl.

I'm still leaning towards tightening the gaps on the stock plugs. I'm gonna wait and see what happens though.

gapped at 36... My boosted (18 -22 pounds) BMW was gapped in the 20's lol

This car is full with surprises, I asked the dealer what plugs the Stinger used when they replaced them in my friends car and they said NGK, and I was like it should be Denso. I had to check my car and sure enough when I removed it, it was an NGK Iridium. These are the plugs that came with the car. The Reddish colouring is normal, just the additives in the unleaded fuel.

SIL ZFR7A-9G

S : Special Square Platinum Chip in Ground Electrode
I : Iridium Centre Electrode and Platinum Ground
L : Extra Long Reach Thread
Z : Extended Gap (Extra Projection)
F : Thread 14mm, Pitch 1.25mm, Reach 19mm, Hex 16mm
R : Resistor
7 : Heat Range
A : Design Series
9 : 0.036 Gap
G : Copper Core Ground Electrode

Not too sure about the G code, I believe it is just a special addition to the lettering for OEM plugs.

Anywho, this is a 7 heat range Iridium plug which means KIA means business when they put it. I think just regapping too .028 should do the trick for up to 450+ whp.
