Brake Change Help

So I wound up finding a good deal on a Front and Rear set of Brembo rotors. I also found a great deal for a Front and Rear set of the stock OEM pads. All for about half of what the dealership wanted to sells the same parts to me for. :p:thumbup:;)
WHAT!
i’ve been turning rotors since 1991. ive even turn my stock stinger gt rotors at 2000 miles. stop the shaking from very intense usage. you can turn aka resurfaced aka cut rotors sometimes 2 or 3 times before they are under specs. you’d be a fool to pay $1500 to change your brakes. turned right and the brake lathe only cuts a paper thin layer off to make it flat

Have fun ruining your new rotors with OEM pads. Fixing the problem by replacing the faulty component with the same faulty component.....look up "definition of insanity"

If you want to trust Merlin's experience (who admittedly doesn't drive his car hard) over the dozens of folks who fixed the issue by ditching the OEM pads, then I wish you the best of luck.

FWIW my shuddering was fixed by going to aftermarket pads (on stock rotors).
my stock brake rotors shook at 2000 miles. these dumbo brake pads and rotors aint worth the tiny cute stickers on the calibers i painted mine the same color as the car with new brembo stickers 2BED49E4-063A-4C83-A5BC-1CFE945E52F9.webppaint

ed cute stickers on the calibers

The issue is that Kia didn’t bed the pads. And dealer / manual didn’t tell people to.

I always go through the proper bedding cycle on any new car or new pads/turned rotor/new rotors.

I bet 90% of the perceived “these pads are chit” issue would have gone away.

most people wouldn’t know to do this with performance brakes.

In fact the exact opposite of bedding: the manual says that during the 600 miles "break in" period you should go easy on the brakes.

Fwiw im over 12k miles now and my brakes work fine and don't shudder. I don't baby the car but I also don't come in hot to red lights. I am a fan of engine braking and limo stops.

Pads were rebedded properly when I first got the car since i saw the complaints about it before purchase.

If I do start to get a shudder though I'll be going with a higher performance street pad. No reasong to play roulette with possibly bad oem pads.

This project has been an absolute nightmare. First, my helper became unavailable, meaning this became a one-man job, and secondly, after I returned from O’Reillys to buy a $40 punch tool set to remove the caliper pins, lugged all my tools and rotors down the stairs, set up shop in the 90 degree heat, got the car up and wheels off, and started on the driver’s side front and rear.

Just as I pulled the first pad out, I realized that I have been sent the wrong pads. I was sent the non-Brembo variant of the pads. This is after I specified “Stinger GT” on Ebay’s BS compatibility engine. So now I have a refund being processed.

Then, after I inquire with my local garage (tne place I prefer to go- they tell me they cannot find rear pads. Then the mook tells me that he never heard of a Stinger before (WTF!) and he doesn’t want to take a chance breaking something. I tell him I already had an appointment for Wednesday at 9am, I ask, what would you have done, sent me away? I have to take off work for this, and I don’t get paid unless I use PTO.

So with that rejection, and plain ignorance, I make a tentative appointment with the stealership, where the receptionist tells me that I can’t talk to an Advisor to get a quote on the labor, because only one Advisor is working, and he’s slammed.

So I decided to drive over there (get an idea of all the energy going into this?) just to talk to him directly. There he was, sitting and pleasure talking with his colleague. I told him I have my own parts, how much to install replacement brakes and rotors. He quoted me $240! I made an appointment for next week immediately. Without the parts, I was previously quoted $1300! What a variance!

For that price, I’d rather have a professional do the work while I sit and wait in the AC. I don’t have a garage, and having had a taste of what its like to do this job in 90 degree weather- I’d rather pay the $240 (actually cheaper than the local garage!).

Anyway, I ordered the correct pads, and this time I went the aftermarket Posiquiets. I ordered from Khartunerz, since K8 store is out of stock for rear brake pads.

What a nightmare, but I have it all sorted out now. On June 18, this will all be a memory.

:thumbup:Drilled/slotted rotors are so fancy.
Thought I would update you that the OEM pads I was sent were the wrong model. So, lending credence to what you and the others have mentioned about the OEMs, I went ahead and got aftermarkets. The OEM rotors I ordered were canceled, and I bought a set of aftermarket slotted and drilled rotors. I’ll have pics on this thread after everything’s installed. Sorry to doubt you about the OEM pads with my previous comment. Once I removed the wheel, I got to see first-hand what those pads did to my rotor; full of residue.

I was going to put the new rotors on, but after seeing what those OEM’s did, I’m not replicating this on my new rotors. I’ll just wait for the new aftermarket pads to arrive.

Best,

Best,
I would go aftermarket too, and count myself fortunate that I did scores of thousands of miles on the OEM stuff without any problems: but why ask for problems by replacing with OEM when there is that (unknown) percentage chance that next time around you won't be so lucky? Better to increase your odds of trouble-free brakes by going aftermarket. I don't have a brand in mind; the options are quite impressive. What you ordered sounds good.

Exactly why I made the choice!

Greetings Stingerians,

I just got quoted a over $1500 by the stealership to have my brakes pads changed.

I did a little research here and found that people have also used

GIRODISC MAGIC BRAKE PADS - FRONT KIA STINGER - OEM BREMBO

-and-

These pads are much less expensive. Is there a catch? Does anyone have anything to share about using these pads?

Can anyone recommend any good rotors (back and front) to go with these? I have a 19” wheel.

Thanks in advance for any information surrounding these products. Its just with the price difference a quality question is begging to be asked.

-Anthony
Well, after all this time, the car’s in the shop now. New drilled and slotted rotors and ceramic, aftermarket pads. I started doing this job myself, but realized I was sent the wrong pads. If it weren’t for that, I’d have completed this job myself.

But as it is, I don’t have a garage (unless I go to the in-laws)- and carting everything downstairs, getting the car up and doing the work…well, I nearly got heatstroke doing one wheel.

Still, $240 for the labor of certified Kia techs- done.

Pictures to come in a few hours, after I pick up the Bee.

i just did the front brakes on my 2020 gt at 12k miles , it had the brake vibration as most do , i used a high carbon centric rotor , and a set of my favorite street pads and wow i love the braking performance now . i use the hawk hps pads , amazing for the street

Does anyone happen to know which model Akebono pad would work for the rear?

Just got a call from the garage. Currently, the tech at Kia is telling me they don’t fit due to the placement of the vibration dampener. These are the Centric Posiquiet Ceramic Brake Pads (a023009). Surely, this is erroneous?

Well, they told me they would have to cut the dampener to get them into the caliper.
Does this sound right? Are these the right pads for a 2018 Stinger GT with Brembo brakes? I just need some feedback, maybe something to go back to the tech with.

I need this nightmare to end.

I know many of you bought these pads. Did the vibration dampener need to be cut to fit into the caliper? These are marketed for the Stinger GT and G70 with Brembo brakes!

I haven't had to change my pads yet but I'm trying to get all the research done now.
I saw on another post that the Centric Posi-Quiet 105.10010 works for the front calipers. Those pads fir a 2016 Cadillax XTS, assuming that the same Brembo calipers were used on both the Stinger and the XTS. The Centric Posi-Quiet 105.08830 should fit the rear calipers.

Again I haven't tried this yet, I'm just making deductions based on association. But it would be a safe assumption. Maybe give that a try?

I just arrived at the garage. They were talking about the wing weights. The Posi’s don’t have them. Nick from KhartunerZ replied and told me they aren’t needed. The car stops on a dime and the bite is insane!

I went with:
stoptechrear STOPTECH PosiQuiet Street Performance Rear Brembo Brake Pads - KIA STINGER GT / Genesis G70

a023009 Centric Posiquiet Ceramic Brake Pads - Front Kia Stinger - OEM Brembo

Get’em at khartunerz.com with haste. They sell out all the time.

…and without further adieu…

…the culmination of this thread, new rotors and pads!
