Would love to see pics/summary of what you have done for "deadening"
I haven't taken pics, but a description of what I've done is easy to picture as you look at the area where the spare is stored.
Of course you must acquire the deadening materials. In my case I had a bunch of dynamatt from previous cars that I've "deadened" in the past. I also have ordered a bunch of different "deadening" materials to further improve my results (I hope).
After I remove everything (including spare), I started installing the "dynamatt" to all of my painted surface that was easy to get to, perfect is not required but cover what you can. I also had a sheet of 5" medium density Vasco-elastic foam (accepted as a good sound absorption material) that I marked and cut out a circle for the spare. I then installed the spare and fitted this foam in the void around tire. From the round cut material, I cut a smaller round to stuff in center of spare and stuffed it into spare center. My piece actually is too thick to allow the OEM hard foam piece to sit back in the spare (you'll see). Whether this piece is needed is up to you. I also had some 2" Vasco foam that I cut and stuffed into any voids- anywhere you see a void- stuff some. I also cut another block of foam to fill the huge rearward void. Remember the top OEM cover will cover all this, so all is unseen.
When my ordered materials come in, I plan to cut one solid piece (sheet) that I'll lay over the spare again, just under the factory top piece.
THIS IS A WORK-IN-PROGRESS. As I tested different materials and locations (towels, moving blankets, etc...) I tried to evaluate what materials I could order to work best, and now I wait. I'd still like another dB less (or3).
My goal is to quieten the cabin but keep everything looking no different from factory from the outside AND to do this without adding more weight than required. The Borla exhaust weighs about 20# less than OEM, so this 20# should allow my all my insulation at no weight penalty overall.
Again, I absolutely love the Borla sound, from outside it is near perfect (almost too quiet) but was kinda sharp from the drivers
seat. Now, due to break-in and my deadening efforts, even the wife is smiling now. It's such a sweet sound, too bad that sound seems amplified inside when first installed.
If anyone is interested, I could take pics, but you really can do this yourself without further instructions. A few less dB makes this exhaust much more enjoyable. It really wasn't
EVER a drone, it's that sweet sound bouncing around with nothing to catch it
but your ears...
edit--> I owe thanks to Sarge for keeping me informed as he worked on his too. We sorta tag-teamed this problem looking at it with two sets of eyes/ears. Thanks Sarge.
AND, I haven't done
anything under the rear
seat yet- gotta wait on my next orders to arrive...
