• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Australia Bi-Modal Exhaust Updates

So there are only two KIA dealers in ACT, National Capital and John McGrath, and one (or both) doesn't have a clue about a bi-modal system. And one has a third party do a PD. Now I understand why some owners drive 3 hours out of Canberra to get a decent service experience.
As @Bigbikes stated the Dealer is full of BS. There are only two possibilities for the installation....1. The dealer did it..... 2. It was subcontracted. Either way there's no need to wait on advice from KIA and it should be a simple matter to diagnose why power isn't getting through to the actuators. If the fault can't be traced then KIA should be brought in and the Dealer does this by logging the issue by computer. KIA will most likely authorise a complete replacement as I believe spare parts for these units are not available.
The outcome will end up positive for you but you shouldn't have to put up with all this shit and particularly have to fund a loan/hire car for someone's failure to correctly install and test, or perhaps a faulty unit from the manufacturer (Lumen in Melbourne)
I agree with all the above. If it was not lined ball on the price I would have driven 7 hours to Melbourne to get the car. I tried hard on some of the Sydney dealers and they just would not budge. Even having a family friend daughter working at a Kia dealer in Syd.
At least I am not stupid to think my exhaust was faulty I was waiting or the nothing wrong line

Perhaps the older one is a special order. I've seen them on eBay being offered by Alan Mance in Melbourne ~ 2k.
I think that price is excluding the install?

Yes, always states installation can be arranged.
Hi Shannon,

Have you had any issues with your bi-model exhaust?

I still have not bitten the bullet and purchased the bi-model. Most of the time my car is just parked and doing nothing...

Hi mate, shortly after purchase I had a retaining pin work loose from one of the actuator mounts. KIA immediately came to the party and approved an entire system replacement. It was the first of its kind and the unit was sent back to the manufacturer for investigation. Apart from that there have been no issues and I continue to enjoy the sound particularly when accelerating or downshifting. Have done my fair share of long highway driving and can honestly say there is no drone as reported with other systems.

Thanks Shannon. I keep reading others do have some issues with the bi-model exhaust and considering it is the most expensive exhaust (correct me if I am wrong) on the market, that worries me.

The second concern I have is there is no switch to turn it on or off as I need. As I have already been followed around by police during a quiet Sunday drive a few months ago, I would like to be able to not draw anymore attention to the car. Last time I checked, there was no law against going up a steep hill at the speed limit. Just because other cars are not capable of doing this, it's not my problem, unless I am behind them. I guess I could just switch back to comfort mode, but then the cars feels...well not as fast as in sports mode.

I need to Make decision soon as I am overdue for my 3 month first service. Been delaying that until I decided.

The exhaust has been designed to meet EPA noise levels. Generally, under 2600 RPM, the valves are closed and its a normal exhaust. It's only when u are between 2600 and above it's open up and at that not even that loud compared to aftermarket.

I am still waiting for mine to be replaced but it's a little deeper in sound compared to stock with the valves closed but nowhere near enough to attack any unwanted attention compared to something like a stock V8 car even

You shouldn't have a problem with noise as pointed out by @allfit@50
I've passed many a Highway Patrol vehicle in Sport and given it a little spurt with no issues.
@Bigbikes has installed an on/off switch but keep in mind it can only be used with ignition off.

Sorry to correct you but the switch works while driving, I can cut pwr to solenoid and the valve opens up..;)

Would the switch work on the newer rear connecting fuse fitment

Yes as long as its put in line where the pwr is taken from, if it's in the boot you would need to run the wires up to front going under scuff plates to the front..hope that helps.:)

I stand corrected

I have had no issues in 8500kms with my bi-modal. Pretty sure the exhaust is quieter in Eco mode if you are worried about the police. Can't say I use Eco mode though. You won't be disappointed if you pull the trigger on it I can assure you. It sounds great.

So I’ve avoided adding to this but it keeps popping up so here goes.

There’s no need to do anything to the bimodal exhaust to lower the noise due to fear of the police, because it’s manufactured under licence from Kia as an OEM part and as such it complies with the Australian standards for noise and emissions etc. To suggest anything else is just ludicrous. The only reason the police would pay attention to you in your Stinger is due to your manner of driving and nothing else, unless of course you happen to wanted for something or unregistered etc. If you drive it like you stole it then they’ll pay attention. If you don’t do stupid things then they won’t. That applies to any car.

What wireless remote did you use? Can the remote be purchase online?
Ok now you have me intrigued, please be so kind as to sharing the "HOW the hell did you do that?" Would appreciate a bit of a step-by step guide if possible?
Was this ever answered? I too would love to know how to achieve this result with my bimodal exhaust.

Yeah, even have a wireless remote to turn it on or off at will. I wired mine up so that there is no fuse and it’s loud all the time. When I want to go back to “stock” and have the active bi-modal working, I just hit the remote! Works very well.
How did you do this? Is there a step by step guide on how to do this on this thread that you can link me to?

This is my first post with a brand new Night Sky edition, but can totally relate to the Canberra comments and also the issues with getting the bi-modal system fitted (which I was only informed on the morning of picking up the new car that I had to take it back to have it fitted). So car booked in at their other branch (because that's where the exhaust got delivered to) only to be told after I had been waiting there an hour that they could not do it that day. After totally losing it and speaking to the GM, arranged another suitable day for them to do the work (this week) only to find that now the car has a range of other issues (like remote locking/unlocking not working, smart tailgate operation now random) along with a NON-FUNCTIONAL bimodal exhaust! Just fantastic..., Now booked in again to have corrected next week. Lets see if they can mange to actually get things sorted. If not it will be off to the other Canberra dealer... But love this forum and appreciate all the comments/posts.

Welcome and I feel your pain. That's a really shitty way to start your Stinger experience. I can't understand why the exhaust wasn't fitted prior to delivery. On the positive side the Dealer has picked up some other issues and I trust you will have Stinger back early next week.

Why Do I have the feeling you and I bought from the same Canberra Dealer.

The remote issue seems to be faulty aerial(mine has short ) that's being fixed on Tuesday. The kicker was I was hoping they will fix my exhaust as well only to be told they now have the How to guide from Kia Australia to check what's wrong with it :( FML. Its like the service dept has not touched a Stinger :(
