I was told by a kia dealer that there is a newer version of bi modal exhaust available now. Can anyone confirm it's worth the upgrade still?

I just got the Jonny Tig 4" single exhaust fitted last week. Only cost a bit more than Kia's system however is not bimodal. As it is catback I though it does generate more power.

Is really good but bloody loud in the cabin at 2k rpm. I am told it may quieten down a little once it has carboned up.

Have been interstate for work on the weekend so plan to drive it some more to properly evaluate.

Exhaust's don't normally get quieter as they wear in, Stainless exhaust generate more heat..your losing HP i guarantee.
Did you change the dump pipes ????...My son has a VL turbo which is good for 1000hp and he runs no more than 3.5inch thats plenty...

Spoke to a few dealerships and read few threads here, seems the 2020 improvement is more around the fitment of the bi-modal exhaust system (easier fitting).

However went to a Kia dealership in Mornington today as they seemed to be the only dealer to have a demo car with the exhaust on around Melbourne (called like 7 places).

Have to say, I wasn't blown away tbh. It just makes the noise louder than giving the car its own character IMO (think something like VW R32/R36(owned), C43 or Audi s3 (owned) and how they have a characteristic exhaust sound). It wasn't raspy / had that deep growl as I thought it could be.

So I think the best approach for me is to order the car without the exhaust upgrade and look at after market options in the future if needed.

If you want rasp after my accessment at a meet of about 5 different exhausts you'll want the Borla. Just be warned there's a trade off it could cause cabin drone. The Bimodial exhaust is designed to minimise this. Hence the muted tones in some modes.

I have the Bi-Modal fitted and i love it, as it does have it's own deeper sound and for me i still wanted the car to be quiet on the inside and be able to growl when needed. If you want the growl (and drone) you can pull the wiring outta fuse holder which i've done before but trade off is the drone at certain revs. Though in sports mode the down shifts sound way better . I have put fuse back in again and i know if if i want the hoon to come out in me its 10's of work to do it, if you can get to drive 1 and you can hear difference..I personally could;nt have car without the exhaust.

The Drone in cabin, affects people differently, some tolerate it better than others.
The GT is designed to go over long distances, quickly and comfortably and a lot of people want a reasonably quiet car so long distances won't have you reaching for the Panadol.
When I pull out the Bimodal fuse, I can put up with the drone and associated vibrations but other household members can't stand it.

Have you already purchased your Car? if not i would seriously try and get them to throw in the Exhaust as part of your deal, the Bi-Modul from a dealer is $3300 including fitting, apparently the fitting takes a fair bit of time because of the wiring mods etc, so a dealer/garage might end up SLUGGING you big time for the fitting, also a lot of Dealers don't like fitting anything that was not purchased from them. Personally I would try get them to include it in your Purchase price.

Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, I have already purchased the car. I did however get a bit of a discount. I watched a lot of "how to deal with a dealer" videos before I purchased the car and was aware of what to look out for. I might wait until I get past 1000km before I go to the dealer to do it. I was wondering about the wiring. Did Kia leave plugs near the mufflers for the exhaust to plug into? I have not been able to find any videos on the installation of the bi modal exhaust.

It’s a pretty involved task. The latest version is easier from what I hear. The previous generation required removal of the dashboard to pick up the various signals/feeds. I have a document somewhere that outlines the fitment of the old version. I will see if I can dig it out and post it up. I think they need to remove the rear bumper as well. Certainly worth it. I’m glad I chose to have it fitted as it actually now has a note to it.
