Kia Stinger Rear Hatch Rattle

Kazz Congrats on your GT2!!! Looks stunning in the Micro Blue, I cannot wait to see one in that color in person. I'm leaning Micro Blue, but am also considering the Wet Cement color. Did you consider any other colors before moving forward with the Micro Blue? It reminds me quite a bit of the Kia Corsa Blue that was on the SX Optima and of the Ultra Sonic Mica 2.0 that Lexus offers. Wishing you many happy and safe miles.

Those rubber posts turned out definitely helps. But that's not the problem. My dealer also called and said the new part to fix it is on the way. Definitely a hatchback rattle. Not that big of a deal. I agree though it's somewhat annoying. ( the rattle that is)

I have the same issue with my 2.0. The service dept. originally thought it was the third brake light cover as they remove it to install the brake light safety feature. They did find the clips were broken and ordered me a new one. The second I pulled off the lot the noise was still there. I am back here today to have the part replaced and rechecked for the noise. The service manager said an announcement just came out in regard to this problem and parts are being delivered to dealers today. He also mentioned an emissions issue with the 2.0 but did not elaborate on what.

Welcome aboard, @Bryan! Thank you for signing up! And thank you for sharing your experience and information on the parts being ordered. That's good to know. There's a fix for this...

"Dealer prep" is hit or miss, in my experience. No mfr should depend on that.

Yes, I agree - entirely...

Again, very good to know that this is an issue receiving attention, @Todd McNulty. Thank you for mentioning this...

Thank you for the kind words! It was a pseudo-Christmas present. I was eyeing the Micro Blue hoping it was good looking and when I went into the dealership there was Micro Blue and black (I don't know the formal name, sorry) only. When I got home, my wife asked if I liked it and BOOM. So, I've not seen any other colors. LOL

Can you folk please post here when you get it sorted and advise what IS this rattle and advise part number and photograph if at all possible. Everybody here will benefit from this info and Mods can sticky the answer if they wish.
Many thanks guys.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
They had the repair kit on hand and repaired it. No more noise!
Bryan , thanks , but what was the FIX ?? can you provide detail ??

Oddly, I did not get any paperwork at all. I didn’t even sign for anything so not sure of parts or part number.

They changed the bump stops inside the trunk.

Not a shock that they didn't give you paperwork. When you say "bumpstops", is that what the told you? Or have you looked to see whether it's the bumpstops at the back of the hatch or whether it's the ones in the side channels that the hatch fits into?

Thanks!

I was able to watch them do part of the repair. They did remove the stop located on the hatch. I did not notice if anything was done to the lower part. Once I drove away I did not examine it to see what was different, I was just satisfied that the noise was gone.

I will get some photos tomorrow.

Did Kia release a TSB for this ? If so try and get the reference # from your dealership so we can post the fix

Yes, he did mention a TSB was just announced as well as one for something to do with the emissions on the 2.0. I will see what I can get from them.

Here are some photos of the new bump stops. I don’t recall what the others looked like or if these are just the same design with different dimensions.

We've been talking about the bump stops that are at the end of the hatch, on each corner. I'm not sure exactly what those are called - perhaps the same. At any rate, I knew that was a fix on a previous vehicle I owned once they wore a bit. I'm anxious to find out how these parts are different.

Thanks for sharing all this info!

Just returned from my dealership. The TSB exists and is SA322. I have a .PDF file - but the image is huge (the file's only 204KB). Interestingly, my extremely anal parts manager says my VIN's not part of the affected lot. I'll be taking my car in next week to let them figure out how they're going to fix it. They'll get it done, they always do.

Great find Kazz !! Thanks

Awesome! Thanks for the info. Service dept just called me today and said my parts are in. Glad to hear it works. Other than that my car seems perfect. They sure got on that problem quickly. Impressive.
