3.3T Turbo Oil Feed Line Recall 2024

keep us posted when you get the car back and a few weeks/months after the recall. I’m curious to hear any feedback of issues after the repair.
Just had the recall done at Ft Bend Kia. Took a little longer than expected, due to an oil leak on the new oil line. A copper gasket they said. Then when we picked it up on Saturday, my wife said the car has no power. Today they called and said the turbo was bad on the opposite side from the repair. Turbo isn't covered under the powertrain warranty...

When I didn't take immediate action on the recall notice, Kia of Carson (Southern California) contacted me for the appointment. The recall notice said the work should take 3 hours +. When I dropped the car off, my service advisor said the car would be ready in 4 hours. When I picked it up, no one said anything about the work not being done. I discovered the work had not been done after I received an email the next day saying the part was ready. When I complained, Nicole, the scheduler, said all recalls take two visits. She said that the first visit is 3-4 hours for inspection and the second is 24 hours for the work. I guess she "forgot" to tell me about the time and visits required. She didn't explain why the service advisor said the car would be ready in 4 hours. She said that Kia of Carson has only two tools to do the work so that only two cars per day might get done. I think the required two-visit story is a lie and Kia is trying to justify making an appointment when they don't have the parts or tools to do the work.

If Kia makes the appointment for the recall, Kia should have the part and and the tool rather than trying to sell additional services such as oil change, tire rotation and suggested maintenance. In my case, they got me to pay for an oil change and I declined other suggested and expensive maintenance because my Kia has low mileage. I understand that the dealer uses the recall appointment to sell more services and make more money. If new oil is part of the recall work, I wonder if Kia will refund the money for the oil change.

To accommodate my complaints, I was promised a rental car. However, it turns out that Kia's rental cars are not currently available. The guy in charge of rental cars says it must call my insurer to verify that I have adequate coverage. Lexus, Infiniti, and rental car agencies don't do this. Really? I've been told that after confirming coverage, they will schedule me again. I don't know why they can't schedule me first thing in the morning when they have the parts and the tool available and then I can pick up the car in a few hours. Perhaps they have others booked weeks out. I love my Kia Stinger but I hate this recent service at Kia of Carson.
I hope yours gets done first because I'm waiting until next month to do mine at Carson lol. Also got the bullshit "two visit" upsell but pushed for them to order it first. They're saying it'll take 2 business days (not including Sunday) though, so it would be Friday-Monday at a minimum. In the recall doc (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2024/RCRIT-24V169-5836.pdf), it says "
Note: Refer to Warranty Bulletin 2024-14 for claim submission procedures. Manually enter sublet code ‘X2’ for
reimbursement of one roundtrip rideshare expense or up to three (3) days of rental expense, with supporting
documentation." How do we actually get the reimbursement?

For those in the Charlotte, NC area, I spoke with Hendrick Kia of Concord at Concord Mills.

They’ve done “about 15 cars” so far and are not dropping engines. There is one technician focusing on this recall exclusively. He has a technique I haven’t heard mentioned here, yet. He puts the car on the asymmetric lift using only the front lift points, puts the car in, essentially, a wheelie stance, and works from the bottom of the car while sitting or standing.

Note that while they quote one day to complete, it takes three hours working time to perform the recall on RWD cars but EIGHT HOURS for AWD. Plan accordingly.

I’m going to wait until I hear that at least 50 cars are completed smoothly before considering it.

I don't think we (owners) do!.

Those words are exclusively for the dealership, detailing how the dealership gets paid.

Thanks for the info! I’m in the Winston area and might use them based on this. Do you know how they handle heavily modified cars?

Well that’s definitely interesting. Both the ad hoc repair from underneath and the time difference for RWD vs AWD.

While I trust my service advisor at Hendrick to push for my unusual requests, they aren’t where I’d go if my car was more heavily modified. They’re OK with my K&N drop-ins but I remove my oil separator tank before I go in.

That being said, when I was shopping for my Stinger, Courage Kia in Gastonia was definitely into mods. The salesdroid showed off the mods on his Stinger, the service guy offered to install any aftermarket parts I wanted and provided a few outlets for stuff he preferred (though he warned that many would affect the warranty…specific to the direct impact it might have), and one of the owners was previously of HUGE help to me with a rebuilt Mazda rotary engine when the company was jerking me around…and REALLY seemed to enjoy putting the moderately modified car through its paces while confirming my diagnosis of the issue, then personally supporting me against the company to get a good resolution.

I didn’t buy there only because they couldn’t acquire FROM A SISTER DEALERSHIP the perfect car for me. Note that I’ve never taken my car there, but when I start with decent performance mods, I’ll go there first.

Hi all, I don't post here often. But I just got my recall done today and I want to give you guys a heads up. Make sure when they put it back together that they bleed out the coolant correctly. My wife picked up our car and got 2 miles away and the car started over heating. Called Kia and they sent a tow truck and after said there was an air bubble in the coolant line. This was at Layton Kia in Utah.

I’m still waiting to hear from my contact contact at Destination Kia in Albany how their first recall repair went that was supposed to have been started on Monday….

was the turbo oil line the source of your earlier 'one or two drops in 24 hours' leak?

Almost like they completely skipped step number #29

If anyone is curious, the refilling / air bleeding is attached

UPDATE: I was rescheduled and I confirmed that they had the part. I went in early in the morning and my new service advisor said my car would be done by the end of the day. 3 full days later at 4pm, the car was ready. I was not successful in getting returned texts or telephone calls during those 3 days to discover the status of my car. The only explanation I received was that they were backed-up. I was told that during the past two days, they had 100 requests for recall work -- mainly non-Stingers.

It's hard to believe that the 3 hours of work took 3 full days and they couldn't predict the backup before inconveniencing me again.

I called Arapahoe Kia in Denver about getting my 2019 GT2 in for the recall and they said they were booked until *December*.

I have a 2019 RWD STINGER GT with 220,000 miles and just had my recall service done. It’s a full day job due to the location of the repair. The repair does not require an engine pull, but it is a tough job. The tech put my car on the lift so I could also see from underneath the repair and also inspect the underneath of the car since I wanted to look for any leaks etc.. No issues or leaks anywhere. The recap also requires 4 quarts of oil so I just did my oil change that was coming due at the same time. I am so impressed with the build quality of this vehicle-been an amazing car. I will also say on a side note…get to know your tech and service managers. My tech and service manager are super cool guys who appreciate and understand the money spent on a Stinger and just enjoy working on one(Live in a small town where I may have the only one). Recalls are a pain no doubt but every car gets them. I’d rather have a company be proactive and prevent a potential risk than potentially have a catastrophic loss. Sorry to hear the horror stories that have been experienced by some owners, and I hope everyone else has a smooth experience.

Upcoming recall for Stingers with 3.3TT engines regarding the driver side turbo oil feed line potentially deteriorating overtime due to head and leaking oil.

This was one of the things I was afraid of happening to my car since it’s 160,000km without warranty.

i got my vin checked and there was no recall. my car was bought from a Hamilton dealership and i got it as second owner. all clear for me, might do a double check in a few months just to be safe. sucks to hear about this tbh

Pretty sure all the affected cars are correctly listed here now, so you.csn easily check.

I actually bought my ‘22 GT2 from them under CPO. Their Stinger tech is definitely into Stingers. I’m down the road in Raleigh or I’d take mine there for the recall work.

Anyone done theirs at Fred Anderson Kia in Raleigh?

stingers aren’t elite.
