When I didn't take immediate action on the recall notice, Kia of Carson (Southern California) contacted me for the appointment. The recall notice said the work should take 3 hours +. When I dropped the car off, my service advisor said the car would be ready in 4 hours. When I picked it up, no one said anything about the work not being done. I discovered the work had not been done after I received an email the next day saying the part was ready. When I complained, Nicole, the scheduler, said all recalls take two visits. She said that the first visit is 3-4 hours for inspection and the second is 24 hours for the work. I guess she "forgot" to tell me about the time and visits required. She didn't explain why the service advisor said the car would be ready in 4 hours. She said that Kia of Carson has only two tools to do the work so that only two cars per day might get done. I think the required two-visit story is a lie and Kia is trying to justify making an appointment when they don't have the parts or tools to do the work.
If Kia makes the appointment for the recall, Kia should have the part and and the tool rather than trying to sell additional services such as oil change, tire rotation and suggested maintenance. In my case, they got me to pay for an oil change and I declined other suggested and expensive maintenance because my Kia has low mileage. I understand that the dealer uses the recall appointment to sell more services and make more money. If new oil is part of the recall work, I wonder if Kia will refund the money for the oil change.
To accommodate my complaints, I was promised a rental car. However, it turns out that Kia's rental cars are not currently available. The guy in charge of rental cars says it must call my insurer to verify that I have adequate coverage. Lexus, Infiniti, and rental car agencies don't do this. Really? I've been told that after confirming coverage, they will schedule me again. I don't know why they can't schedule me first thing in the morning when they have the parts and the tool available and then I can pick up the car in a few hours. Perhaps they have others booked weeks out. I love my Kia Stinger but I hate this recent service at Kia of Carson.
