2020 Stinger Rumors

I think that the confusion is that it isn’t clear what car she bought. Some of the posts made it sound like she thought her car is a V6 TT. I just would like clarification on what this car was sold as. From the pictures it is obviously a 2.0 car. I am just curious if it was sold that way.

Edit: I went back and found the post where she says it is a “premium” which indicates a 2.0 car. That clarifies it for me.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming. When are the 2020 models actually coming out?

Thank you for the clarification. I do apologize for the confusion! I just need to do some research on my own next time. I am trying to learn and do appreciate everyone being patient and taking the time to reply. Y'all all have a great rest of your week!

I think you missed the drama on here a few months back: where a new member of the forum said that they had a GT (sold as such), and it turned out to be a 2.0L (a Premium also, iirc). It was an awkward "lol moment". (Again, iirc, it was a dealer "error" and they took the car back and replaced it with a GT trim; how the finances worked out on that I never learned; didn't need/want to know, either, for that matter.) We don't want to let anyone on here get shafted by a lousy dealer trick. And so the questions come to find out if your car is what you thought you were getting. It looks like you won't have to use your attorney husband's connections in this regard.

Haha, thank goodness for all of y'all experts!!:laugh: I will do my best to be more educated about my vehicle, ha. I really am appreciative of you all and again for your patience.:)

Some new info regarding the lineup for 2020 was released. Basically there is only one four-cylinder option for 2020. The upside for those who only want the cheapest entry-level stinger, will be getting sportier design elements for almost the same price. The downside being if you just want all the creature comforts found in the premium, you have to now get a GT1 V6 as no four-cylinder is going to be optioned out in the same fashion.

If I remember correctly I think like nearly 80% of stingers sold were V6 models. So getting rid of one of the 4 cylinder models is probably not a bad idea.

That's been widely reported over the last couple of weeks.

Kia still hasn't made an official announcement regarding the existence of a 2020 Kia Stinger GT/GT1/GT2.

So got off the phone with a sales rep at a local dealer and they just received some 2020 info today. I was a little bummed, because there are no color changes for the new MY. I was really hoping that they were either bring the HC Blue here or would let me build a Panthera with red interior. They are going to get back with me hopefully tomorrow to go over any additional MY changes, but as of now, looks like I'll likely be trying to work a deal on a black with red interior.
have you checked the Canada site , 2020s are on sales here .

Finally, 2020's are starting to arrive at dealers - or at least they have the VINs of incoming cars.

Here's a GT2 in Tampa, FL: window sticker

And a GT-Line w/ Sun & Sound package in St Louis, MO: window sticker

I don't spot any differences on the GT2.

MSRP increase is only $100 over the '19 GT2, so a smaller bump than '18 to '19.

Another year of dealer stupidness has left them with lots of 2019s to sell off. However, unlike other vehicles, it seems like the Stinger’s come out in November. It was this way when they launched in the US in 2017 for the 2018 model year, same last year and it continues this year. The official announcement is up on kiamedia.com as of 11/26. The 2.0T GT Line is the only 4 cylinder model available this year. It would be nice if they could have bumped the the power ratings higher for that engine in the Stinger.

A little off topic. MB has an 2.0T AMG 45 with 375hp/350tq, BMW has a tweaked 2.0T in the X2 M35i producing 301hp/325tq, Volvo was getting 362hp/347 out of their Polestar tuned Super-Turbocharged 2.0T. Most manufactures were in the 280-300hp and 280-295tq range from a 2.0T in production vehicles. With engine downsizing, some folks are pushing the limits of what can be done with small displacement engines. One can only hope this new 2.5T will be a good engine and come with power rating over 300 to replace the 2.0T doing duty in the Stinger. Plus they should make sure it gets a higher tune in the Stinger than the Optima, so they don’t overlap.

2021 is when we should expect changes for the Stinger however, G/H/K seems to be having some issues tuning the 2.5T, they have pushed back the launch of Genesis G/V 80 series vehicles a couple of times already. I think the 2.5T and 3.5T is supposed to debut in those vehicles first. Hyundai’s US market Sonata is said to have the NA 2.5 as the base engine, but even that has been delayed. Based on the new tech the other mid sized vehicles are launching with, we can expect some similar stuff in the refreshed 2021 Stinger.

Definitely excited for the 2021 refresh, but I would be a little hesitant a buying a little 4 cylinder with that much power. Trying to get that much out of a small engine like that will require quite a bit of boost and very high pressures which is not good for reliability, for more power it would be best just to get a bigger engine. this is especially true for Hyundai and Kia since they are supposed to be the reliable alternative to the Europeans.

I'm sure they have designed the engines to handle the higher boost pressure and more. Manufacturers usually test the engines at higher levels and then base the production engines to outlast the warranties. Sure, some may fail earlier but the majority should last for longer.

The 2.0 in the Stinger was tuned to make 275 hp in the Optimas for years. Kia has sold thousands of those cars with more hp than the 2.0 Stinger and (to my knowledge) reliability wasn't an issue. in 2015 Kia stripped the engine of 20 hp, presumably to make for slightly better fuel economy. I don't doubt that after 10+ years of development and various tweaks and tunes to the motor Kia has the ability to reliably extract over 300 hp from it. After all, 300 hp is just 25 more than the engine was pushing a decade ago.

Question is, will they keep the staggered setup or go squared?

______________________________
And will that affect their quoted 0-60 figure? I guess it doesn't really matter since most professional journalists' testing showed it to be faster than Kia's claim anyway.

Thanks for that! Let the complaining about not goin squared commence! Lol!
