Edited by mod - This is Merlin's opinion, not established fact!
As I have already speculated:
Kia will use the compensation to cover additional costs of the repaint, first. Any leftover would have to be applied to the cost of the car, i.e. lowering your outstanding balance by that amount (for the handful of people who have already bought their Yellows outright and owe nothing, Kia would offer some kind of in-house perks, like free tires or other freebies, etc.). Kia will not write cheques for you guys to cash, or "I will have to pick my jaw up off the floor". So, we wait and see. Shouldn't have to wait long for the first reports coming in about how this five grand is being given.

I'm with you on the freebies and all. I do think however, that the "additional costs of the repaint" bit is a little troubling as since this is a new car, it all should be under warranty. Doing otherwise would smack of BS a little, of course this is my opinion only and others may get different mileage.

I would prefer the 5K to do with what I wished and admittedly - if the repaint and subsequent arguments over the bumpers and other plastic bits go well - I'd probably spend the cash on the car anyway. Doubt that any of those parts would be Kia branded though. ;)

I am also not entirely sure I'd subscribe to the notion that I'd let them off of the hook that way since I did not set out to buy a "defective" car at first, but I also tend to be a pragmatist at times and I realize that they could have just told me to get bent, like they did with the owners of the blue ones. Ah well, another week of lurking for me before my ride goes in at 9AM on the 14th.

On a side note, I did speak to my Genesis dealer this weekend....

@jondyer, my thinking on this "applied to the respray" angle is that Kia wants to cover everything. So, added on shop supplies/surprise, whatever the dealer tries to tack on as additional (asserted) costs to them, as dealerships will do: Kia does not want any of this going south on them, so they are projecting to make all of this hassle as easy to clear up as possible, with as few hard feelings as possible. Warranty is a sticky issue when it comes to (especially front) bumpers: how many other colors will come crying to have their front bumpers repainted/replaced under warranty for genuine road damage? So if the word got out that the Yellows were even getting front bumpers replaced for free under warranty, the number of appeals for "Me too!" would skyrocket. That's why "Metal Parts Only" was stipulated. But the Yellows are going to get their bumpers done too, with the $5K.

Anyway, that is my guess about what is going on with the $5K and the bumpers not being included in the respray. What a tightrope walk for Kia!

Sorry to say but your speculation are incorrect.

Let me break down the time line of my experience so far.

2 weeks ago received a phone call from Linda (KIA case manager) informing me of the campaign. Letter to follow with more details.
1 week ago received letter.
Last week I call the dealership to schedule appt. In the middle of the phone call I change my mind and hanged up. The conversation with the service guys wasn't promising so I had decided to contact Linda (which is what is recommended) to arrange it for me. I email her and she call me the same day. She ask me what dealership that I wanted to have the repairs done in. She inform me that she will reach out to the Service Manager and inform them on what needs to happen. She again told me of the 30 days I have to decide to keep the car or opt for option 2 or 3. The 5000 will be mail to you only after you have decided to keep the car. You can elect to wave the 30 day wait and decide anytime to keep the car to speed up the delivery of the 5000.
3 days ago she contacted me again to inform me that the dealership is aware and that they will contact me.
Today the dealership have contacted me with my date to begin the repairs. Sept.3, 2018 Loaner or rent a car will be given to me at that time at no cost to me.

Again. The 5000 is being sent ONLY after you have decided to keep the car. If you elect to have your bumper painted by KIA with that money that will be your choice and that's only after you have received it.

@MerlintheMad - you make some sense and I see where you are going with that.

@Ivansito - If this is true, it will be a long 30 days indeed and I can assure you that I will be going over the car with an unusual thoroughness.

Still not holding my breath though.

I'm getting upset with this whole process. Linda told me she would email me her contact info and case number on the first call. never happened. I updated my case online after receiving the letter letting them know it was a repaint the whole car or I would go with either of the other two options. I get a call from her Thursday saying the repaint of the whole car is not an option and that she sent me an email with forms to fill out and scan back. I didn't have said email again and called back the number on the letter immediately and told them I haven't received them yet. It's now Monday and still no email. I even made sure she had my email address correctly and still nothing. I have owned Kia's for quite some time now, and thankfully had never had to deal with their customer service, just my dealer who has been outstanding. Making me really consider the buyback and looking elsewhere for a car.

It is a wonder where you come up with your speculation. You do not know what KIA is going to do with the 5K and my "speculation" is that you will get a check for that amount when you tell them you are keeping the car after the repaint. As my "speculation" is just that, my feeling is that KIA is not working at a deception on their Stinger owners of the Yellow and in fact understand the significance of coming through this with the best possible public relationship with it's customers as it can. You might have to pick up your jaw. That is my opinion as a public service administrator for over 31 years (Building Principal in a big city public school....where you can get yourself in serious trouble if the kids/parents/community do not come first.)

This sort of post is wildly uninformed, but you are clear in the fact that it is speculation. I guess I should not fault someone’s opinion, but all facts thus far suggest exactly the opposite of what you have speculated.

Does anyone know what will happen to the Yellows in the US that will be returned or exchanged?

I’ve called and talked to two other people and both have said Linda would call me but no call back. I don’t even have her email ! Which I would like.

Everyone take a deep breathe. Its 1 lady in charge of 400 cars. I can almost 100% guarantee she will contact you and update you. KIA has been outstanding so far. We just have to exercise some patience's and NOT Speculate on things we know nothing about. Its leads to confusion and uncertainty among the masses.:confused::cry::eek:

I will update you on every step of the way.

Linda does take a while to get back to you but I find that she does, usually. I imagine that she's a little busy since she is also my case manager.

Perhaps she is a single point of contact, if not, then she is one of a few for sure. I found that the best way to get her was to call, leave a polite message with one of the other folks there who would generally try to get her on the line, fail, then promise to have her call you back.

I am 3 for 3 doing it this way.

Just out of curiousity, what Forms did you have to fill out and scan/send back?

You have 2 options initially. Repaint or no repaint. Only after choosing Repaint does the other 2 option become available.

No forms as of yet. Pretty sure there will be when I drop off car.
