Launch control, what a JOKE..

Oil change Tuesday AM. I'll try to remember to ask my tech. Nothing slips by him. LOL

Maybe when I have the car up on the rack this week for my first oil change, I will take a peek and ask some questions. In my last forum, I was a "junior" member with several very technically minded owners on there owning the car for many years. Here we are all "junior" members, this being a first year car and all.
Yeah. This early forum experience has a "getting in on the ground floor" feeling to it.

This thread has too much to read through but has the OP (and others) solved this yet? Several things have to be done. Please state what you didn't do.

First the car has to be warm enough. Check the oil temp gauge. Make sure it's at warmed up normal operating temp (around 200).

Next put the car in sport.
Next press the "auto hold" button and confirm the light on the dash.
Next press and hold the traction control button for ONE beep.
KEEP holding the same button down and you'll get TWO more beeps.

Keep your left foot on the brake pedal and press the right pedal down all the way. ALL THE WAY.

You'll get the launch control ready notification. Lift your left foot off.

You miss any one of those and it doesn't work.

LC is not a joke.

Jokes are supposed to be funny.

Post #44, OP was not actually in "launch control" and admitted driver error.

I stand corrected , I did not do the proper chain of events to activate Launch . Now I know how to. I should have posted I can not believe how soft this Stinger left the line.

So you're saying that you've performed LC successfully? Soft does not mean slow because it picks up speed very quickly. Elaborate a bit more, if you will ...

I've also been wondering if there's a trans cooler. That'd be good to know. I'm sure that, eventually, the aftermarket will create or improve on one.
unfortunately, there isn't. there is a thread on the forum discussing a trans cooler. i am all for a trans cooler if room can be found.

I did the proper launch. After putting hold on. I held traction until I heard 2 beeps. It wasn't until I put the throttle all the way down till I saw launch control activated. Let go of the brake,it was no joke. Must say it took off quick and hard. Sorry for being a dick.i am learning this car.

@Kazz said in the other thread that the transmission pan is finned for cooling and that there is a line running up front to the radiator area. So, at a minimum, it appears that there MIGHT be a transmission cooler. Photos or a part number would be great evidence if anyone has it.

I just did some 0-60 test runs and using auto hold (idle rpm) was one tenth faster than launch control. Auto hold is only on GT 2 but should be the same as holding brake and no gas.

My GT has auto hold.

Yea I think it's a standard feature.

Never bothered with it though.

Good to know. Weird feature. I figured it was just with drive by wire trannys.

I have auto hold too. I use it occasionally just because it is there. The feature as a "launch" tool had not occurred to me. That makes sense. You could position with your foot on the accelerator to perfection without having to hold the car with your left foot on the brake.

Just for shits & giggles I used the launch control feature today. Very effective - produced efficient, quick acceleration with no drama.

My only real complaint with the Stinger thus far, as juvenile as it may be, is that lack of drama. Even turning off traction control and flooring it without Launch Mode enabled won't produce any wheelspin. Not even a chirp. I feel kinda let down after viewing all the smoky burnout vids, though those cars were likely not the AWD version. It hooks up really well and pushes me back in the seat, but with no noise other than the engine revving. I'm in my mid 50s, so should be over the need for this type of display of wretched excess, but I'm not.

How much go pedal can you give the car in auto-hold? I thought it'd release once the gas was pressed even a bit?

That is correct. I was suggesting that with auto hold "on", you can brace your left foot on the foot rest and "get ready". Move your right foot to the perfect position and then press. The auto hold should facilitate a rapid, smooth pressing of the accelerator by freeing up any need to keep the car stopped. But this presumes that such a standing start actually means something. Dueling from a stop light. Drag racing off the street, etc. So far, when I have tried out the acceleration powers of my Stinger, I have simply released the brake and pushed down smooth and swift. I don't jam the gas pedal, I press it. That gets me going fast, fast enough to satisfy me!

What's wrong with holding your left foot on the brake while bringing up your rpm's without moving. Then hit it and remove your break foot. Something like a manual launch control.

The LC is very stressful on the drive train, so says the manual. I can't imagine that holding the brake down while pushing on the gas to bring up the RPMs is good on the car either. But as long as it is used as rarely as the LC is designed for, what do I know?

I doubt very seriously that this car has a "trans brake" like a Dodge Demon and it doesn't have a dual clutch automatic transmission. This leaves the traditional torque converter transmission. With a torque converter transmission, the only option for "launch control" is that the car's electronics are holding the brakes for you and revving the engine to a point somewhere below the TC stall speed rather than you doing it.
