Where is the "none" option that every car should have? That's part of what is missing if you read the original message.

I honestly don’t remember if it was there or not. I like the transmission option so I set that and moved to the next setting.

I did a trip to TX and back, over 2K miles, and then, two weeks later, I "discovered" the manual gate. I had been using the paddle shifters the whole time. Keep in mind, I have never had a sporty car before in my life. The closest thing was a Dodge Shadow. Heh. I was reading in the manual and saw "manual gate" and it took a couple of rereads to start to understand what they were talking about. I said, "no way, how could I drive c. 3K miles and not notice that?" My very next drive, I pushed the shifter toward my thigh, and sure enough, there it was all the time: you get to keep it in "1" when you pull up to a light or otherwise full stop; instead of seeing it change to "D" and having to resume manual shifting by using the paddles. I felt a mixture of stupid and pleasure with the feature.

And I just noticed that my GT 1 has a 7" AV screen. It's supposed to have an 8" screen. Even the Premium is listed with that.

I used NAV all the way to TX and back. Another discovery was the first time I tried to do a Google local search. I got the message that I need to subscribe, "Go to MyUVO.com for details". What is that? I guess I'll check it out now, since I am thinking about it.

Is the size of the screen including the border or the actual screen itself? Because my bordered screen is easily 8" or even a tad more.
 
GT2 drive by wire does the same thing if it is in Sport mode.

I missed that in the manual. So, no pull to the side just push forward and back. Don’t push the button, I guess as that might be bad or does it sense you’re at speed and not try to slam into reverse.


Oh and, I don’t know about you but I’m flying in the Stinger! :D

No, I meant the manual shifting not reverting to D works the same if the drive-by-wire cars are in Sport mode. No one needs or wants a physical shift lever if you already have the superior paddles ;)

I note the ironic smiley. Sometimes, because of extreme steering wheel rotation, the paddles are not handy. Keeping the left hand on the wheel while bumping or pulling the shift lever is prefered.

Oh but you can use paddles anytime not just in sport. It overrides instantly. So I thought the shifter changes in Sport. Up can paddle shift without having to floor it to press the floor “button.” The click at the end of gas pedal travel.

That's why the proper design, employed in all rally cars where you are doing a lot of steering and unexpected steering, is to use fixed-position paddles. Then, the paddles are back to being superior to a shift lever because you keep both your hands on or near the wheel.

Only a couple of manufacturers of road cars use this design (Infiniti being one) and I am always shocked and surprised when I read the universal pans of that design by reviewers. It is a vastly superior design for adverse conditions, though the paddles can get in the way a bit if you don't hold the steering wheel in a conventional manner. I have refused to buy a car without paddle shifters since 2002. I would always choose fixed-position ones if there was a choice (there never is).

Don't get me started on all the sequential shifters out there that are backwards (exception: Mazda). Again, check race cars where you ALWAYS down shift by pressing forward and upshift by pulling back because it matches the g-forces of your body under braking or acceleration.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of road cars' shifters are designed for parking lots and the expressway, not the actual, rare times when you could really take advantage and benefit from of manual shifting (adverse conditions or apex carving on a twisty, hilly road).

The paddles work, but the car reverts to D very quickly unless you are in Sport. That's what the original comment was about.

Ohhhh! It still reverts to D just a longer delay. I see. I’ve been playing and as reviewed I see it returning to D. A slide over shifter stays in manumatic. So there’s that. My Acura was the last and only car with that feature.

For those with drive-by-wire, it won't revert (with the latest firmware). For those with a manual shift lever, you have a manual shift lever to control it.

Is there a way to determine the firmware version? Or is this another Canadian thing we to the south just have to deal with. Heheh.
