Borla Exhaust for Kia Stinger

I’m still debating on what material to buy what you think second skin, houshmatt or sound skin??

if you just getting the sound in the spare tire area there's no panels to remove the floor of the trunk area lifts right out and quite frankly that's the only area I would do if I did it over again

The only experience I have is with the second skin product and I'm telling you it's extremely high quality

Just the second skin pro or should I get the lexury liner also?? I know you told me you was going to try again.

I would only buy the Damplifier Pro at this time because I found that there's not much room to use much of the luxury liner Pro as I thought and I think it's probably a waste of money for as little of an area's you can actually use it

Think would be ok just putting the Megaga'Zorbe 1/2" foam under the trunk mat?? Would it do any good?? Being a leased car don't want any mods I can't reverse. However I am thinking about if I can get away with Kia authorized part like exhausts?

Hmmm..... that spare tire area seems to vibrate and maybe that's why the vibration damper does take quite a bit out

However I think that maybe some well placed foam?

I had even thought about getting a piece of nice foam and cutting it out perfectly so that it would fit underneath the trunk floor all the way from side to side and all the way from the back of the seat to the bumper. That carpet in the trunk just lift straight out it's mounted to cardboard.

Yes, that is probably the biggest single change that I noticed, it did a lot for me. That and fill the huge void around and behind the spare with something (like quiet batt insulation) to deaden this void.

JimB has great pics and details that should allow you guys to take a little noise away. There are many great solutions to noise.

Why buy the exhaust if you then need to buy sound proofing to dampen it?

In my case, I wanted to get rid of the factory crimps and restrictions AND make a little more noise. What I got was a great performing system that was louder than I planned- surely you've gotten different results than planned also?

I was getting over 95dB from the drivers seat at certain rpms, that was more than I planned for. This car is not one that I want to be 95dB in the drivers seat, so I start working for my goal. The exhaust sounds great now inside and out. There are many choices for exhausts, I bought the one I thought sounded like the short videos- it didn't.

So, now this is my way of making it near perfect. It sounds great.

Not everyone wants a loud exhaust... I also want some sound, as well as the performance from less back pressure on the exhaust side. And the tuning options increase greatly without factory restrictions.

Got it. My post sounded sarcastic so I apologize. I was really just curious as to why buy the exhaust if it was too loud. Makes sense you didn’t think it would be as loud.

Nah, it was valid questions! No need to apologize, I created my own problem (so I'm trying to work through it). It's not a loud exhaust, but I believe JimB said, the hatchback design sorta allows the exhaust sound back in the cabin.

This Borla system really does sound good. As weird as this sounds, I wouldn't want it quieter (outside).
Am trying to have my cake and eat it too. I probably would be doing this "quietening" even if I'd purchased an XForce Varex type system- to deal with that noise.

Yours was a valid question, we can't read between the lines. We are all trying to enjoy the same car, hopefully many have learned as we learn. It's a fantastic car from the factory, I think mine now sounds like it should IMHO. There are several great exhaust choices, I doubt any are really "perfect".

What worked best for me was mineral wool insulation. You can get a bail of it for $25 bucks from Home Depot or Lowes.... it is fireproof to 2000 degrees and is designed to deaden sound. I started with the Norco silver, and then put a layer of closed foam on top of that. It helped a little but the mineral wool is the most effective, the cheapest, easiest to apply and can be easily be removed. If I had to do it over I would just use the mineral wool alone. A lot less time, money and effort and a lot more effective for sound deadening.

But you still got ride of the borla because it was too loud right?

How much of a reduction in db`s would you figure? would you compare the deadening levels some what close to stock in levels?

No...I still have the Borla...was gonna go back to stock but the parts did not become available. Actually glad it worked out that way...once I got the excess cabin noise under control , I liked the Borla much better.

No...not stock level. But I do like hearing the exhaust. I just wanted to tone down the sound inside the cabin a bit. Look at it this way...the mineral wool is safe, is easy to install and only costs $25. All the jazz with the different sound matt coverings will run you $100 to $ 200 US. Plus the time to install it. The most significant lowering of dbs came from the mineral wool insulation. As I said... I started with the Noico metal back liner first. Then applied a layer of 1/4 inch closed cell foam. Those first two layers lowered inside noise a little but the biggest drop came from the mineral wool. That said you can still hear the exhaust inside but it is just no where near what it was before hand. It also is no where near stock sounding but I do not want it to sound like stock either. Thats why I got tue Borla in the first place.

View attachment 7559 My wife and I went to California this weekend and it was the first long road trip weed had with the Borla exhaust.

We found a simple solution to the interior noise problem using common household items.

it works perfectly!
The real question is, what’s inside that LEGO bag?

Sorry was speaking in tongues again..

Question is.. with the deadening in place..what was the reduct in decibles (db)?

Does the car sound close to stock levels?
