JB4 Review (another)

You're pretty knowledgeable...how much PSI do you think the Stinger can handle?

Map 2 is 4 PSI in all RPMs. I was thinking of editing map 3 to produce 5 PSI in lower RPMs (<3000) and 4 PSI in the higher range. Thoughts?

I haven't yet determined if the stock pistons and rods are forged yet, but I would think 18-20 psi total should be doable. That is probably the extent of the compressor efficiency of the turbos anyhow ( assuming they are something like a garrett gt1752), and all told with supporting mods ( DPs, intakes, intercooler, exhaust) should get you close to 480- 500whp. I would recommend starting small, logging as much as you can and adding from there.

Side note, I just ordered on of these for performance testing:

Dragy: dragy - GPS Based Performance Meter - Free Shipping in USA

Would be good for folks who are interested in documenting performance increases though there mod journey. Its become the newest craze with gear heads, as there is a social and competition aspect to it. For $150 bucks seems like a great option to get some scientific results for mods.
Yo man, I appreciate you and all but quit making me want to spend more money...lol

I read previously that the rods were forged. Its somewhere in this forum I'm just too lazy to look right now.

Was hoping you could update us on how your experience is going with the JB4. Everything going smooth?

Hopefully I'm not jinxing myself but I've got about 250 miles on map 2 with no issues to report.

Still going strong!

Of course. Only way to know if they actually pull the engine and find out.
@Hunter pulled an engine in this post but we didn't ask him if the pistons/rods were

Didn’t pull the internals apart you just have to drop the motor to do any sort of real work to them I was replacing a turbo on one with 30 miles on it

Update:

Yesterday I put about 375 miles on the car. About 240 miles on the highway and the reminder on city driving.

Fuel economy is something I don't normally pay attention to but I noted after returning home last night that my average for the day was 26.8. The car remained in comfort mode the entire day. I don't know if that's good, bad, better than stock? Just worth noting what a day of mixed hwy/city driving on map 2 acheived fuel economy wise.

So far I've put appx 750 miles on the car with map 2 and .025 gapped plugs. Still no issues to report regarding reliability, misfires, etc.

Acceleration remains strong and the boost is really felt when approaching 2800+ RPMs.

One bit of craziness: I was driving around a suburb of Raleigh and turning out of a neighborhood onto a busy 2 lane curved road that I was unfamiliar with. I accidentally pulled out in front of someone in my typical grandfatherly speed. When I looked in the mirror and saw a vehicle quickly approaching I pushed the pedal probably about 70-80% of the way down while going maybe 10-15mph. The car's tires instantly broke free and made me fishtail a bit. That put a big smile on my face, reminding me of my old Camaros and Corvette.

That's all for now. I'll update again if there are any significant changes.

My JB4 is arriving this afternoon! Can't wait to play with my new toy. Got my HKS plugs already installed. Hopefully the REV3 works well as I want to enjoy the convenience it provides. I will update as I find out more in my own review!

Thanks, I look forward to your REV3 review. I think you'll be the first one to try it out.

Okay, one more update.

0-60 in 4.07 with Map 2.

Hey thanks for the udpate! I hope you didn't get sick...and if so thanks for taking one for the hive!

Lol. I did a little. Just a little headache. Took some medicine when I got home. I'm good now.

I did. But I didn't realize I had to also run the OBDII cable. I haven't got around to that yet.

Noob question. Where does the JB4 takes power from? I see it's tapping on 2 sensors but not sure about powering it. And where do you mount the unit?

It's powered by one of those connections you mention. There's no extra power cord to run.

Mine is mounted with double sided tape on the passenger side near the windshield. I think it's a fuse box...
