Two people on the first page of this thread claim to have tested it up to 140, when the speed limiter kicked in. I don't think 130 vs 140 really matters to regular drivers, and anyone tracking their car would probably run on tune on it for more custom control anyway.
Yeah. The 10 mph difference doesn't matter to me, just curious. The fastest I will go will be on the 1/4 mile drag strip. Based on the reviews, looks like the trap speed is 106ish so the governor won't matter anyway.

I ordered my AWD with 19" wheels. Although the all-weather 18" might be more "practical" for most of us, I think the resale value of the 167mph cars might be a bit better for low-budget kids looking for a car to mod after I'm done with it. Doesn't cost anything to go either way....

Segador this is what I just posted I feel your pain and blue balls : Well since no one that I have seen has asked this question I will. Is there a tune out there or will there be or maybe even an override in the future that will override the horrible:mad: thing kia has done to us and limited the GT's with 18 inch wheel to 134mph?? I know they did this because of the speed rating on the tires they put on it which as we all know is an EASY EASY fix better tires with higher speed rating or back to the factory 19 inch I don't think us that had to get the 18 inch all season package should be punished for the climate we live in. If there is no such thing out there the performance guys on here that own companies might want to put some very serious time,R/D and thought into producing an override for this. Took the stinger out tonight and had to find out if it was true about the speed cut I didn't wanna believe it and then 134mph hit and I got a major case of BLUE BALLS not funny KIA not funny.... 140mph and I would of been happy as hell and then went out and got 19 inch wheel and tires tomorrow with a high speed rating. If I hit 140 I would know it wasn't true but sadly it was 134mph it felt like she left the room as was about to finish you guys know what I mean out there !!:(

I seriously think kia needs reevaluate this decision if we bring our cars to the dealer and they inspect it and see it have the proper speed rated tires they should IMMEDIATLY remove this limiter free of charge. I will be contacting KIA HQ tomorrow to complain about this.

Yes I do feel your pain, the GT I believe is a 200mph vehicle. It will get up to 138mph so fast, then cuts off! I have been in touch with the man that is over the whole Pacific north and south west kia Corp, he told me under NO CIRCUMSTANCES will Kia change the speed limiter!!! He was a real piece of shit, he had a smart mouth, and a head full of rocks. He is the kind of person you pray you run into, to see if he would even try to run his mouth so wreckless to your face. I could not understand how kia would let some one like him even buy one of their cars, much less represent their company, because if they don't run him off, I'm through with kia, and will tell people on the street I don't even know, dont buy a kia. Which I do!! I get asked all the time, how you like that stinger, and I tell them how kia lied about how fast it would go, and what sorry premium customer service they have..... I have the only one of these cars where I live, and unless kia makes some things right, i probably always will. I met Sam Walton when I was 16, I watched him fire managers that would dare challenge a customer, and insinuate that the customer was wrong, his ideas created a empire. Not kia!! That Rep. For the Pacific told me I was stupid for not investigating the top speed better, yea I could see a dealership letting me get up to 167mph, just to make sure they are not lying, before I bought the car.. maybe somebody that really wants to sell cars will take over soon. And make this right!

If this car was bought by one person to drive the speed limit, what a waste of money. Should of bought yourself a ford fiesta.
Drive you Stinger over 120 in Oklahoma and if caught I guarantee you will be sent prison for at least one year. Reckless driving is not liked in Okla.

Good luck with that I will say this was a big issue December January everybody that didn't realize that found out about the same way you did . Before we got ours I must've built it on the website I thousand times starting in December and I could swear it had the 18 inch tires for the AWD's as a option no extra cost , but somewhere in about the middle of January they added the disclaimer that it would only do 130 with the 18 inch wheels . I'm sure that happened because that disclaimer I don't believe was in there until somewhere around the middle of January and there were a lot of people pissed off that I have gotten the 18s on the AWD . Anyway that's when I started noticing the disclaimer was around the middle of January I think they got the message by then . Be safe .

Sounds like the next phone call you need to make is to corporate and talk to his boss.

Another dumb thread, full of whining and complaining. Let me know how in the real world going 130mph vs 167mph some how effects your daily life otherwise shut up and enjoy the damn car already.

I realize some of you did not buy the car to go fast. For yall, a VW bug would have been just as good of a option. For those of us that bought the car to go fast, ( like kia said it was capable of going) leave us alone. I have driven my car over 130 in Oklahoma on the turn piles, and not been alone, oklahomians have been there beside me at times doing the same. Enjoying what we like to do, if driving your car 55mph makes you happy do it, but if you run a red light, you'll get a ticket too. Dont be the guy that sets back saying I do a bad, wreckless thing, while smoking your cigerret, drinking your beer, messing around on your wife, smoking crack or dope, or what ever you do. All these things have consequences too. I bought a fast car to go fast, that is what fast cars do well!!!

Now I regress, I came on this site to talk about fast cars. This is amplified by the fact, you see a picture of my stinger and not me. So unless your Saint Fred bishop of the buy fast and go slow, church, I suggest we talk about stingers and kia...

The limit is a legal mandate from the lawyers to protect Kia from idiots who would drive 167 mph on 130 mph-rated tires. Once you mod you car, it's on you, not them.

Lots of law suits at Ford over putting cheap tires on Explorers in years past and then getting hosed by people who drive faster than the tire rating or don't have sense enough to check tire pressures and sue them for tire failures. If you think the fancy tire pressure monitoring systems are for your interest and convenience, no, they are for legal protection against irresponsible drivers. Same with speed limiters on 140 mph tires and also on 170 mph tires limited to 167.

The 18" wheels were an option (NOT default standard) on all GT's. You had to check the 18" wheel box or you got 19" wheels and tires. If anyone is to blame, it's the dealers who ordered and sold those cars without knowing (even though it's on the spec sheet they use to order cars) or the dealers who sold the cars without caring or notifying customers, not Kia.

first off, from what i have researched before purchasing my stinger, all gt, gt1 and gt2 all got 19", including the awd. second, if it is in fact something from kia, get an attorney. there were several cases in the 90's against ferrarri because the advertised speed wasn't even close. ferrarri said that it was the driver, so one owner got a professional driver, i think it was randy probst, rented out a race track and proceeded to show that the car was 20 mph less. suffice it to say, that was a cool million dollar payout. not saying you should get a professional driver, but, go to a dyno shop, strap it on and have the tech floor it and test it. 16 pages of arguing amongst ourselves, including where do you drive 120 in the u.s. the interstate at 2 a.m. yes is it illegal, sure, but then why do they sell cars with 1000+ horsepower? for show? we would then all be driving a 1958 vw beetle. not saying that this is b.s., but i would think a multimillion dollar corp like kia would cya better than a set of floor mats. just my two cents.

But why did Kia decide to put slow tires on a fast car in the first place? You can buy W-rated 225/18 All Season tires for less than the Pilot Sport 4's everyone else gets. But the cheap tires they gave the 18" are roughly $50 per tire cheaper than a decent A/S W rated tire, so they just couldn't resist the added savings, when a W rated tire would have already been saving them a lot over the Pilot 4's. It's just bean-counting and it's counter-intuitive to take a brand know for making uninspired garbage-mobiles, then headhunt some top German talent, completely redesign every car in your lineup and add a bunch of great new ones in an attempt to change people's perception of your brand, then start sneaking in a bunch of ways to make your customers feel ripped off. If Kia took every customer who checked off the 18" wheels and said hey check this second box underneath and for $200 we WON'T screw around with your speed governor I bet a lot of people would have checked that box.

But RWD is still coolest :)

There are private road courses/tracks that you can go to drive fast. Public roads in the US (i.e. not Germany) are not meant for racing. Sure you can pass slower traffic quickly reaching high speeds but sustained high speeds and racing ain't what my tax dollars are paying for...

Your argument isn't valid. If I smoke (which I don't), I go to a dedicated smoking area so I don't bother others.

I totally accept and recognize how angry you are. I just think that there isn't much recourse for you other than selling/trading your car for one that does what you want it to.

P.s. BTW I bought this car in Dec. soon after it was released. I live in the PNW where all season tires would have made sense. I did my research and knew that 18's would come with A/S tires and limited speed. I still went with the 19's.

Amen, brother. I agree 100%, maybe we should turn it into a class action suite. Break them bean counters from suckling eggs!!

From what I have heard, all AWD cars initially went to Canada with all-season tires. AWD / all-season tires. Makes sense. Why would anyone buy 18" wheels and all-season tires if they were interested in top end speed?

My twenty year old Corvette came with 17" in the front, 18" in the rear and did 174mph. Why would wheel size prevent you from going fast? As for All Seasons, anyone who doesn't want to have a separate set of wheels with Winter tires would get them?

Very true, I have two mustang's, I got w rated tires for summer and winter. ( become a fan of the BF Goodwrench G- Force, that does well at both.) Also got three trucks , diesels, many modifications to them, fast for pick-ups. All of which have many sets of tires for. Not speed rated like they should be, because they all will go faster than the stinger, but only in straight lines unless you like trees sticking into your windshield and cab. That's my vice in life, things that go fast enough to do something stupid on. Who needs a drug habit or a ex wife, stay married by tires and turbos ect....
Kia has no excuse for a speed limiter, none, you can buy 18" properly speed rated tires, all day long, for a car that is capable of 167mph. The dealer led me to believe ( peak kia by the way) that the tires was smaller only because of clearance needed for all season tires, I asked about the speed. They said nothing else was changed, even the preferred customer support bill knew nothing of the limiter until days later. He could not understand why kia did it neither, but he said it was done at the dock before the stingers where allowed in the country, had nothing to do with the dealer. Sounded strange to me, so yes I would love a good lawyer, to handle this. I dont know who that would be yet though. Because what just makes me ill, about all of this is the stinger handles and runs like its capable of just so much more, easy!!!
