3.3T Turbo Oil Feed Line Recall 2024

Just got mine home from the dealer. They did not drop the engine, although they said it would've probably been easier. There were a lot of things they said they had to remove from the engine to get to the location where the line needed to be replaced.

Also, the color of my coolant was pink.
The coolant color problem is not an issue for people with pink coolant to start with.

When they say, there's a lot of things that need to be removed from the engine to get to the location! All of the things that need to be removed are listed in the recall procedure, including the special tool Odd statement from them.

Wife dropped her 2018 Stinger off this morning, was of course told they had to drop the engine. I am not going to express any of my disappointment with KIA to her since she really likes the car. Hopefully Royal KIA in Tucson knows what they are doing. I also hope when she is done with the Stinger that she moves on to a different brand. Going to be a while since the car has only about 24000 on it.

The last recall years back when the braking (IIR) correctly circuit was over fused at 30 amps, the engineers initial solution to this issue was the most idiotic plan ever, doing some fuse box disassembly and re-wring. Of course eventually KIA came up with a proper lower amp fuse to simply install in the fuse slot of the over size 30 fuse. Anyway KIA and Hundai have too many issues with their vehicles in my opinion.

All this crap with "Inspecting first" is a load of shit these dealers are doing. It's a safety recall! They're supposed to perform the work regardless if it's currently leaking. Now if they're doing the inspection just to get a visual verification of whether or not you have the old part instead of the new part, ok. But if they're doing it to see if it's leaking just to send you on your way and delay the work until it is leaking I believe would technically be illegal. Personally whenever I call to schedule mine if they pull the "inspection" crap, I'm going to remind them it's a safety recall and they're required by law to perform the work regardless of whether or not the current part is leaking.
I think it's more contributed to standard triage.

They probably have a limited supply of recall kits, and are installing those kits first on the cars that are actively leaking oil.

If you have no leak, you do not get a loaner car while they wait for parts on order.

If you have an active leak, you get a loaner car while they wait for parts on order.

I’m in the “wait for Kia to do a bunch of these” camp as more effective and efficient procedures are developed/discovered.

Meanwhile, this reminded me that having a fire extinguisher is always a good idea to help slow the progress of flames long enough to get everyone out. Hopefully you’ll never need it but it could come in handy, even if it’s to rescue someone else from their burning vehicle.

I’m thinking a 2.5 or 5 lb Halotron (replaced Halon) extinguisher attached to the front of the driver’s seat rails using the Bracketeer mount. Halon is a clean suppressant with more punch than messy chemical powder.

The mount:

…available on Amazon:

This research also lead me to automatic under-hood fire suppression systems with none as simple as the BlazeCut system…a 6- or 8-foot pressurized tube of liquid clean fire suppressant that is passive until the plastic is compromised by heat thereby releasing the suppressant at velocity close to the hot spot. It’s not an aesthetic solution, but at least it does now come in black.

I’m still researching. Not even sure if the Bracketeer works with our setup.

It took two days to get my Stinger back. I had to call and ask how’s it going. I also had the 30,000 miles maintenance scheduled to do at the same time. I was told that this was taking a little longer than they thought. I was told this was the first Stinger turbo line replaced at this dealership. I brought it to their attention that my antenna is no longer picking up radio stations. They said the part would be here on Tuesday or Wednesday to leave my car at the shop, NOPE I replied, I will bring it back when the Kia Warranty is ready to be performed.
I was quoted $643.00 to replace park plugs. NOPE!

When I didn't take immediate action on the recall notice, Kia of Carson (Southern California) contacted me for the appointment. The recall notice said the work should take 3 hours +. When I dropped the car off, my service advisor said the car would be ready in 4 hours. When I picked it up, no one said anything about the work not being done. I discovered the work had not been done after I received an email the next day saying the part was ready. When I complained, Nicole, the scheduler, said all recalls take two visits. She said that the first visit is 3-4 hours for inspection and the second is 24 hours for the work. I guess she "forgot" to tell me about the time and visits required. She didn't explain why the service advisor said the car would be ready in 4 hours. She said that Kia of Carson has only two tools to do the work so that only two cars per day might get done. I think the required two-visit story is a lie and Kia is trying to justify making an appointment when they don't have the parts or tools to do the work.

If Kia makes the appointment for the recall, Kia should have the part and and the tool rather than trying to sell additional services such as oil change, tire rotation and suggested maintenance. In my case, they got me to pay for an oil change and I declined other suggested and expensive maintenance because my Kia has low mileage. I understand that the dealer uses the recall appointment to sell more services and make more money. If new oil is part of the recall work, I wonder if Kia will refund the money for the oil change.

To accommodate my complaints, I was promised a rental car. However, it turns out that Kia's rental cars are not currently available. The guy in charge of rental cars says it must call my insurer to verify that I have adequate coverage. Lexus, Infiniti, and rental car agencies don't do this. Really? I've been told that after confirming coverage, they will schedule me again. I don't know why they can't schedule me first thing in the morning when they have the parts and the tool available and then I can pick up the car in a few hours. Perhaps they have others booked weeks out. I love my Kia Stinger but I hate this recent service at Kia of Carson.

That sounds like your dealer made a mistake. I scheduled my own appointment, and I didn't have to make two appointments for mine. I didn't ask about a loaner because I didn't need one. I have no idea if they would have provided one or not. They did initially tell me it would take four or five hours, which turned out to be wrong. They did call several hours after I dropped off to say it was taking longer than expected, which I was ok with. I'd rather they do it right than try and rush it.

I just got my notice for recall fix. I'm in the US with 2019 GT 3.3T. Letter says 3 hours but my Kia said a few days. The service person said they need to drop the engine out. I'm more afraid that dropping the engine out and putting it back in doesn't always workout 100%. Like a clip might be missing or a screw not tightened. Fingers crossed none of that will happen.
Mine was there from friday->wednesday. They told me they didn't have to drop the engine but it was *very* difficult.. I'd recommend NOT being the first for your local service dept.

Just had mine done yesterday at Kia Garden Grove. I noticed the recall notification on the Kia app, scheduled the appointment on 5/11 and was also advised that they didn’t have the part but would order it. I didn’t understand why they wouldn’t have the part on hand as it was scheduled in advanced. It was rescheduled for 5/18.

Advisor estimated the time to be 3.5 hours, and meanwhile told me that another Stinger had recently came in for the recall and unfortunately the tech that handled it blew out the hose and now the owner is out of a car for 3 months as the part is on national back order. I appreciated the transparency but i was reluctant to leave me car as you can imagine. He assured me that a seasoned tech would handle the job and would update me throughout the day. I regrettably decided to wait at the dealer. After 5+ hours my car was ready ….but was told that during the process of replacing the hose there was an incident and my windshield had a small stress crack.

Without question as I’m sure anybody would be, I was upset, hearing that my car had been damaged and would have to deal with getting it fixed. Kept my cool as he assured me that they would cover all costs associated and not limited to the ceramic tint, and ceramic coating that I had done on the car. I wanted to look at the car before it being released back to me. Upon inspection (as the service advisor did not look at it before notifying me the car was ready) the so-called small stress crack was not so small. It was big and very noticeable . It started from the bottom and extended all the way to edge of windshield from the driver side. Something they did not mention was the damage on the lining of the hood, it looked like it was scrapped . Upsetting to say the least, I made sure this was all documented on the account and the service done that day… considering the liability of driving the car back home, they also couldn’t provide me with a rental until Monday. But to make long story short, the recall was done but with the inconvenience of a cracked windshield and damage to the hood. Great! now to get this repaired.

Hope others have better luck with the recall.

wth does that even mean? how can 'the hose' be blown out? what hose, the replacement hose?
I can't believe that you are going through this. how in heck does someone crack your windshield with the hood open working in the engineroom???

Ima waiting, believe it.

I thought I had bad luck but I wouldn't trade places with you for anything. Maybe I should wait a few months to get the recall work done when the service department will have had more experience. I have very low mileage on my car so I suspect nothing will go wrong for some time.

Trust me. I was just as confused.

Here is the pic of my windshield.
It looks worse looking out from the inside.

unbelievable. they dropped a tool on the edge of your windshield. 'small stress crack' hah.

Kia will probably send you to Safelite to get your windshield fixed. That's where Kia sent me when my windshield was under warranty. Safelite did a great job and fast. My heads-up display is only slightly crooked but it works as well as ever.

Isn’t the HUD able to be rotated to “level” the display?

I second this..,

The only hose that gets touched, is not to be reused, and a replacement upper rad hose is included in the recall kit.

What a shitty dealer experience.

Trying to be optimistic, at least they didn't damage your side skirts putting it on the lift.

Hey i'm currently scheduled to do the recall as well but i'm trying to see how are they if the car is heavily modified. I'm currently also on high flow cats, downpipes and cat back exhaust. Got intakes, blow off valves, intercooler with charge pipe kit, oil catch can, eibach sway bars and lowering springs. I don't mind the recall getting done but i don' t really know if they'll take the car with all the mods.
O and btw also running full ecu and tcu tune lol.
I am same way i have my own mechanic who i only let touch my car so would like to know any feedback if anybody has gotten this recall done with any mods on vehicle thanks.
