3.3T Turbo Oil Feed Line Recall 2024

Before Kia invented the "special tool", this procedure required removing the engine from the vehicle.

With the engine removed, it is exceedingly simple to replace the oil feed line.
 
The full technical procedure, including the 1 special tool is detailed in the safety recall (linked).

Coolant filling plus air bleeding procedure (step #29) is the longest step. The whole procedure is quoted as being 3.2 man hours


Holy Moses! DJ, thanks for the technical document concerning the repair. My appointment is in two weeks. After seeing the process, that is a major operation! I'd be lying if I said I wasn't as bit worried. Has anyone here who has had this done been given trouble from the dealer due to having a CAI? I see the removal the left side airbox in those steps. Thanks.

Kia --- the saga continues; this burns me. The car was with them all day. All they did was inspect the one on my car (mine isn't leaking) and take down my VIN. The service advisor told me that since mine isn't leaking, they order it so that they have one on hand in order to make the repair on a leaking unit. If they have none in stock and yours is leaking, then they give you a courtesy car until the repair is finished. -- All is this good, BUT I SCHEDULED A SERVICE APPOINTMENT!! Don't you think that they would have ordered one for this appointment . I guess the only good news is that I got a courtesy shuttle back and forth to/from my house.

All this crap with "Inspecting first" is a load of shit these dealers are doing. It's a safety recall! They're supposed to perform the work regardless if it's currently leaking. Now if they're doing the inspection just to get a visual verification of whether or not you have the old part instead of the new part, ok. But if they're doing it to see if it's leaking just to send you on your way and delay the work until it is leaking I believe would technically be illegal. Personally whenever I call to schedule mine if they pull the "inspection" crap, I'm going to remind them it's a safety recall and they're required by law to perform the work regardless of whether or not the current part is leaking.

Just to clarify for me: does this recall affect every model year Stinger?
Mine is a 2023 with only 2,200 kms on it (about 1,300 miles). It's not my daily driver so it will never have high mileage.
Even if I get a recall notice, should I even bother? Thx.
 
Why go through all the hassle and risk associated with replacing the hose if it's not leaking? Especially for the non high mileage cars.
My understanding is, it has the potential to fail while driving and cause a fire in the engine bay.

My understanding is that it is up to MY 2021. If you don't get a letter then your VIN is not included, simple. Even if you did get the recall letter, I would not bother going in for this unless symptoms appear, such as oil starting to drip, and the smell of burning oil, smoke. You should have plenty of time to react and get the recall work done.

One reason is what Floridaman mentioned. The other is if you ignore a safety recall, and your car catches on fire (or whatever the result of said safety recall is) and it's proven that it's directly due to your negligence and ignoring the recall, there's a good possibility you'll forfeit any compensation from your insurance for loss/damage of the vehicle. Not to mention any possible legal repercussions you or your family could get into because of your choice to ignore a safety recall and someone else is injured/died as a result.

It’s up to MY ‘22. I have a 22 GT Elite and I got the recall letter. I’m now debating how long to wait, as I’m concerned that if I wait too long the recall kits may no longer be available. Also, since it is a safety recall, not getting it done could affect resale, as not being able to be re-sold until the recall has been done.

keep us posted when you get the car back and a few weeks/months after the recall. I’m curious to hear any feedback of issues after the repair.
Finally got my car back after letting them keep it an extra day and spent some time talking to the techs. Good news is they ended up not having to drop the engine as the service advisor though early on, rather they had to remove some extra items to get access to the parts. This was their first job and took over double the time quoted but they were taking their time and thanked me for not rushing them. Part of this recall is a new oil level pipe (aka dipstick guide tube) which wasn't as quick as estimated as well.

I'm pleased and impressed they did a great job overall and even detailed the engine bay. Thankfully for me they appear to have had the A-Team on this who took care to get the job done right. I'll be monitoring for leaks over the next couple weeks out of an abundance of caution anyway, but that's just me. Oh, and I asked if the old oil feed pipe and hose they replaced looked like it was failing and they said it all looked OK.

Seems like depending on the speed and knowledge of the shop you go to there's a chance they may have to keep the car there longer than expected, so plan accordingly.
 
I dropped my Stinger off last night at the dealership for the recall work to be started first thing this morning completed and picked up by 5. I texted to see how it was going and was told that it is taking a little longer to finish the job and my Stinger will have to stay another night. “It is their mechanics first recall job for the turbo issue.
 
I dropped mine off yesterday morning for this recall. They called about 4 today to say it was ready.They did call yesterday and say it was taking longer than they thought, and they thought it would be done early afternoon. Going over in the morning to pick it up. I'll be interested to speak to them and see what all they had to do.

This may have been the first one for my dealership also.

If you went in with green coolant, check to see if it's now diarrhea brown.

My understanding is, they replace most of the coolant with the newer pink coolant, since there is no coolant flush, there is a significant amount of original coolant left in the system when they add pink.

This is only a factor if you had green coolant originally, which many did/do
 
Just had my recall work done yesterday. They kept the car overnight, but they were nice enough to give me a loaner car, I have confidence in this shop Liberty Kia, New Jersey.

I will certainly look at that. We are going to pick up the car in a little while. I will look when we get it home and see what color it is.

For any of that to happen, must be proven the hose was leaking oil and caused the fire.

Battery, electronics, fuel tank and the fuel lines (under pressure) are all more likely to result in a fire than a small oil leak from the hose.

If the hose is leaking, will need replacement. If there are no signs of wear and no leaks, replacement is not necessary.
Not hard to follow this logic.
 
I had an appt to get this done today. Having never had any experience with the dealership services, I called a contact there who also has a Stinger. He said that there are only a couple techs who work on Stingers and have >20 years experience there and was going to check on the hx of this recall repair there. He called me back to say mine would be their first! I decided to reschedule for after they have done a few. He said reach out early next week as they have one slated for Monday...only 9700 mi on mine and haven't had any apparent oil line leak(s). The dealer is also >30 mi away and didn't want to navigate a loaner or Uber situation....Good luck to all!!
 
Just got mine home from the dealer. They did not drop the engine, although they said it would've probably been easier. There were a lot of things they said they had to remove from the engine to get to the location where the line needed to be replaced.

Also, the color of my coolant was pink.
