Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only parts of "leather" seats, are only the perforated main seat and back areas. The rest of the seats are made of leatherette - AKA well done plastic... Which is why the seat does this when pressed against the seatbelt fastener.

Seat material quality is pretty marginal I have to say. I wanted red, but when seeing it in real life the colour/tone is not bad, but it shows the lack of quality in the seat material more than the black does :(

Tell me about it. My seats, especially the drivers side bolster, are not holding up well. (see separate post).

I meant plasticky-looking, not undurable. I was presuming the less soft and luxurious it looked, the more durable it would be...

Here's an interesting discovering to me. Nicest spare tire rim I have ever seen. No steely wheel here!

And largest 12V car battery I have ever seen in my 20+ cars owned over the years, including hybrids!

One nitpick I have is that there’s no hook to keep the trunk cover up when you’re accessing your spare tire. Had to pull out my spare and disconnect my battery last week.

Fully agree, but isn't that what your head is for when bent over! :D

Oh, the head makes for a good prop stand when removing the tire and toolkit tray, but try putting all that back in! That is where you’ll find the challenge of keeping the trunk cargo tray up!

This may have been mentioned elsewhere but there's an issue with the smart cruise control.

I'll be cruising along behind another car at say 100kmph when it diverts off onto a slip road and slows (sometimes quickly). The cruise control is still locked on that car and quite abruptly pulls my car up as if it thinks it's avoiding a collision.... disconcerting at best, dangerous at worst.

Unless the car you were following is well out of the way to the side, that's the way the SCC is designed to work. It can't tell the other car is going off a ramp/slip road...it just thinks it is slowing erratically in front of you.

Yep, I get why it's doing it. My surprise is how far out of "my" lane the other car is when my car slows....and how dramatic that can be....especially if someone is behind you. Wakes me up every time....

Not really a discovery but I finally for a chance to try the seat cooler feature. Wow it was cool. The temp finally for to a place where my back was little uncomfortable. So, I kinda did my normal thing of moving forward so air would get between my back and the seat. Then all of the sudden I realized, hey this car has seat cooler. lol I flipped it on and WOW, what a nice feature. Love this car more and more everyday.

What’s that tube at the bottom of the battery for?

It's a gas venting tube manufacturers install when a battery is installed in proximity to or considered in the passenger compartment. Had that too on my Lexus HS hybrid, battery in the trunk right by the rear seats.

Yea, just found that out a couple days ago too.

Just found out that you can adjust the height of the seatbelt.

Not sure if this was mentioned already. But there are two ways to turn your Climate control On. First by pressing on the fan speed button (regular way) and the second by turning the temperature control knob on the drivers side (LHD)
