Dynamic Bending Light Failure

I had the same issue when it was really cold and I just washed my car (was warm then got cold fast). It lasted several days until I parked in a heated garage. The light hasn't appeared since.
Seems to the case for mine as well - I did just get a car wash before it got extremely cold and I started getting the error code for the first time shortly after. It's been going on and off today as it has warmed up a bit. Assuming the car just isn't a fan of the cold (like myself).

Just happened to my Stinger too, and it doesn't get very cold in Los Angeles, so I doubt temp is the issue.
Hoping there is something I can try and avoid trip(s) to the dealer.

Yeah, mine is pretty much doing this all the time sub 50 degrees. I did find the following technical service bulletin:

https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2022/MC-10214153-0001.pdf

The parts are pretty cheap, so I'm going to order them and see if it addresses the situation.

I wasn't able to find the Hyundai parts listed in the TSB above, so I ordered the OEM brackets and new desiccant. After removing the old brackets it was very apparent that the stock foam/desiccant had expanded and ruined the brackets, which prevented the dynamic lights from functioning correctly (see picture). After replacing the brackets and desiccant everything is working correctly again with no failure lights.

I think this is a very common issue. My passenger side motor failed, dealer ordered a new one, the new headlight was DOA, ordered and installed a second.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
How did you manage to twist the cap off when you pull down the plastic outer flap. I'm not that weak, but that thing will not budge at all. Just ended up bending the ridges but zero movement.

May need grease or something equivalent maybe?

I've had this issue for about a month. Car is going in on Monday. Total mileage is ~33,800, car purchased 3/2018. Issue seems to arise on colder days and may not present if it's warm out or if the car was run for awhile, turned off, and turned back on within a couple hours (the lights may have initially failed but on restart return to function).

Not happy to see this happen with so few miles/use. Doesn't build confidence for future repeated failures. Also been having an issue with the steering wheel clicking since at least two years ago; prior dealership claimed they couldn't hear it. It has since gotten much worse. Anyone know if the lights and/or steering components are covered under the 5-year/60k mile bumper-to-bumper?

I'll keep you posted as I learn more from the dealership shop.

It's threaded, so just need to turn counterclockwise to unscrew it. One of mine did take a little elbow grease to loosen. Recommend turning the front wheels as far as possible to give yourself a bit more room.

I'm assuming it's the same issue and it should be covered under warranty - my dealership locally is terrible, so it was worth the $50 to do it myself and not deal with the dealership.

You are aware of the TSB for the headlights?

Should be covered by that warranty

I was not aware of the TSB, thank you! My car has a manufacturer date of 10/2017, so lucky me I guess.

Who wants to take bets on whether the dealership will have the required parts this week?

Thankful for the forum. Took my 2018 Stinger along with printed TSB to the dealership. Ordered parts and got installed with not hassle and no cost. headlamp part.webpheadlamp part 2.webpheadlamp part.webpheadlamp part 2.webp

My dealer is suggesting a $3600 headlight replacement...

I then showed them this TSB - with the exact same trouble codes my car has ..

They are reviewing .... General incompetence are my only thoughts on the matter... Issue not yet resolved, warranty claim submitted by dealer...
Me, patiently waiting.

That's why I went the DIY route. Good luck.

Guess I'm glad my dealership is easy to work with. Sorry you're having to deal with that. :(

Stinger went to the dealer, and the paperwork says they replaced:

1 LED DRIVER MODULE
1 BRACKET MOISTURE ABS
1 MOISTURE ABSORBENT

Since the problem was only on the right side, I'm not sure if they replaced the parts on the left side even though the TSB says to do both sides.
So I ordered the parts since they are cheap enough and tried to check the left side.

I tried to gently pry the clip and the head snapped right off.
Anyone here can lend some help/tips how to access this service panel, and where to get replacement clips for the one I broke?

Thank in advance.

Those clips are the standard Kia plastic rivets. Dealer will have hundreds in stock

Well, warranty approved the headlight replacement.... They did not even attempt to replace the bracket and desiccant per the TSB.
They didn't even open the cover, to diagnose

This 200,000km /10 yr extended warranty is worth the $260 CAD I paid for it.

I paid $0.00 for entire 3 part repair.
20230507_205717.jpg

They also replace my drivers side mirror, which would occasionally not fold in/out.
20230507_210809.jpg

Starter motor was also replaced
20230507_211856.jpg

Total of 3 items, make up that $8,508.76 (CAD).
  • 1 headlight $3,876.89 (before tax)
  • 1 mirror $2,136.62 (before tax)
  • 1 starter motor $1,454.91 (before tax)
  • They also warrantied an alignment $149.95
Normally, I should have to pay a $100 deductible for this, but that was waived due to (reasons).
