Kia Stinger Navigation Map Update

Pretty sure as long as it is marked as a favorite, it records as soon as you start the car.

After some looking, I guess it's SXM only? I didn't look too closely the first time. Played around with the free SXM channel, and found it would let me rewind. That explains why I've never seen it.

Yes, SXM only.
My wife's 2015 GMC Sierra pick-em-up truck records FM (and I presume AM) channels as well, but only the one you are currently listening to, so you can rewind it. If you change the channel, then it starts the recording over.
Unlike the Kia, which records all your favorite SXM channels from the time you start the car. If you change channels, you can skip back to songs that have already passed. Not sure how much recording memory it has, but I have gone back several songs on multiple channels before. Too bad it doesn't seem to record the FM or AM. It would need to digitize them to be able to do so, with SXM, they are already digital.

found out from kia connect, i have an update to do. ive never done one before. i assume you have to sit in your with it running and insert the usb drive. i cant find much more information as far as what to expect, when its done, or if you have to restart your stingers computer when its finished...
Pop the USB in, start the car, keep it running and the system will restart when it is complete. My advice, go for a nice drive while it's happening, and make you don't do it in the background if it asks, it will take forever.

Sorry if this is covered somewhere, but does anyone have any experience with software updates on a 2023 GT2? It has the tube radio, and the model number is CKCS.S5BMC.US. There's an update button on the software info screen in the car but it doesn't seem to do anything. There's nothing on Kia's update page for the 2023's or that model number. Software version is CK_PE_23.USA.S5W_M.V001.001.220317

There have been a couple of updates since the "tubular radio". :) There is no special update for a given model year. (Welcome into the open. )

Oh so I can just download the 2022 Software and throw it onto a flash drive? Also do the OTA updates from the screen work, or is that update button with "OTA Update Available" just for show?

In Canada we have software called "navigation updater" and it's not listing 2023 yet. Try downloading the US version from Navigation Updater | Official Kia Navigation Update Website and popping in your VIN, see what it returns. Yeah the update can go on a flash drive or SD card if your car has SD still.

I have doubts OTA will work for a full update, its generally way over 20GB and I don't think their IoT data plan would appreciate that.

Welcome btw! Nice username. Your driveway kinda looks like Hoovies. Would love to see a stinger on hoovies garage but that'll never happen. :)

US Navigation Updater doesn't list 2023 either unfortunately. I may just try to throw on the 2022 files and see if it takes it. Or take it to the dealer and see if they know.

Yeah that's a good point on the OTA update, that would take quite a while depending on what my service is looking like.

Thank you! And being my last name is Hoover, the last few generations have gotten the nickname Hoovie. Unfortunately no relation to Hoovie's Garage!

I use the SD card port, after downloading the latest update to it on my computer. So, I can't speak to anything about the OTA functionality (never noticed it, to be accurate).

I would guess the 2023 would use the same update as the 2022, but I'm not positive. There was definitely a change from the prior models. The 2022+ doesn't use an SD card (doesn't even have the port). Usually you use the update software on your computer to plugin your VIN, which directs you to which download to get. That then goes onto a USB drive. When you plug that into the USB port it should prompt you if you want to update.

If an update is available, don't be so eager to install it right away. Give a few months first.

If the update files are dated 8/1, wait until closer to year's end. Just in case there's any glitches or other issues. They have been known to pull an update (happened in april/may of this year).

I have always updated on day 1...

To each their own.

Same boat have a 2023 but the software is still old compared to the 2022 car files. I will download it & see if the car takes it. Will report back

Agreed.
In my naïve youth I was gung ho about updates and things like that... now I will gladly wait for all the bugs/kinks to get worked out. Let someone else deal with their stuff being unstable (or bricked) while the company figures it out.

I've taken caution to the extreme. I haven't updated in a few years because I was afraid of all my icons turning purple!
I got tired of driving "cross-country", i.e., where the new roads have not updated yet: this is an increasing thing, since where I live new roads are going in all the time. I don't mind the purple icon theme, but I do dislike not being able to see the slider on the right when I scroll through my tunes: the previous version, the slider was clear as can be, now it is almost the same as the background: annoying. Also, the countdown distance to the next turn is way off in the update, by a hundred feet or more sometimes, and nearly always I'll already be into the turn and the countdown distance still shows 50', then as you get around the corner, it quickly counts down to 10' by the time you're accelerating: also annoying, and stupid. But aside from those two anomalies I'll take it (and will not likely update again for another year or two, like last time).

I do the same with my pc. Windows hasn't been updated since sometime in early 2020. Still working great!

The next update wil be a reinstall from scratch to install win11. Probably sometime this winter.

if you use chrome for your web browser, i dont think 11 supports it. it uses microsoft edge for the browser. not sure if any others like firefox are supported either.

On my machine, primary browser is firefox, secondary is opera, and tertiary is chrome.

On 11, chrome installed and works just fine. Define supported?

Right, most regular programs that work on windows 10 should work on 11. Windows 11 however is picky about your PC hardware more so than windows 10. That being said, Windows 11 will definitely not run on our stingers
