Kia Stinger Navigation Map Update

You can't downgrade unless you use engineering mode. Kia's voice controls will also break on a downgrade. I wouldn't rely on it.

I downloaded and updated my car with the April 22 update on my '21 Stinger before they pulled it. I really like the audio fade feature. The Radio screen has seen a marginal improvement. On the plus side, the steering wheel controls now make sense (up = station frequency preset below the current one; down goes to the next highest station preset) since the presets are listed vertically. But as someone pointed out, there are fewer of them visible on the screen. It's cool though how the presets save the station clip art.

My only complaint is the same as the last revision: they leave all of 1" by .5" for the artist and title in the bottom right corner. The station art/album art takes up a disproportionate among of space on the screen... and not all stations (FM anyway) send that info, so it can be a lot of wasted space. At least they're not chewing up 75% of the screen with the frequency number like the last update. <shrug>

I rarely use the built-in navigation so I can't comment on what's changed, if anything, there.

I think you might be up to something here... Although, I have already installed the update (mentioned an issue I am having above), now I go and the update is no longer available. This will be the last time I will jump the gun and try to update until all bugs, if any, are taken care of.View attachment 70454

Like others I always update when one is available. I updated my 2022 in January. This is the first update I wish I had not done. It's not just that I liked the look of the previous version-- I no longer have the weather forecast that was in the previous version. Now there is note to call customer service . . .

My real problem is that the car is from Canada and I live in the US. Kia Connect in the USA will not accept my VIN, so can't sign up (I still have an account for my 2019 GT2)-- Canada won't accept my address in the USA or the fact that car is registed in the US.

I don't think I'm missing much not having a Kia Connect account . . . but I do miss the weather I hast week.

My 2018 - running the newest April 2022 software still has the weather forecast.

Do you just need a Canadian address? Lots of those to be had... I don't think KIA has mailed me anything, or it was insignificant and I tossed it....

I tried registering in Ontario using my VPN-- but when you fill out the Address to register there's a note that the postal code "must match ownership". A valid address doesn't work.

We all know that if you have the VIN you can get info on the owner in just a moment online. I did read that the "head unit" can be replaced with a US version-- I can not believe that there is ANY hardware difference, firmware perhaps. I don't know what that would cost, but it is more than the value of a Kia Connect account!!

When I make an appointment online with my local Kia Dealer, I have to use the VIN from 2019 Stinger- because a Canadian VIN just does not "work" in the US.

My GT-Elite is Canadian-- but being a 22 the software is different from the 18.

WOW...Funny thing is, I have 2019 Limited and here's my versions, but No Weather, No Black Screen, only Fade Audio on Exit.

I will not be updating if they got rid of the tubes. One of my favorite features of the infotainment. They are referring to the image of the vacuum tubes in amplifiers. Anyone have an image of what is there now?
