FAQ: Vibration under braking: warped rotors? NO!

Using OEM pads on a roadracing track will never work with any car, let alone one which weighs 4000+ lbs.

You need to be using dedicated roadracing pads at the track, which by the way, will not work on the street since you'll never get enough heat in them, plus, they'll squeal like crazy.

For our Porsches at Road America we choose to run Pagid Orange and are very happy with them. The OEM Textars wouldn't last 1 lap where one is braking from 150 mph going into Turn 1, Turn 5, and Canada Corner.

Therefore, install track pads first and then determine your braking needs.

With all that said, a 4000 lb car is not a very good choice for tracking. You will/should be burning thru tires, rotors and pads like crazy unless you drive like a grandpa.

Finally, I would strongly encourage you to buy a book on car prep for roadracing. The basics include proper brake fluid, bleed intervals, brake pads/rotors, dedicated set of track rims/tires, pressures, etc.
Yes I'm definitely taking the car out of it's comfort zone which I really shouldn't be doing. It's just my work car. My usual car for taking to the track is off the road so I just bought the stinger to still enjoy track days as much as possible and I really have to decide how far I want to be able to push the Stinger.

for True Track day hard track day, yes, track pads... but for guys who will go once a year the most for having fun aren't risking flipping or sliding into another time zone, and being bit careful but having fun, these oem brembo pads work o.k

Been just putting up with the vibration for about a year now. Finally just replaced the front rotors w/ some drilled/slotted ones from David @ k8 and some stop tech brake pads. absolutely zero vibration now, hopefully it lasts.

Hey guys, anyone else here using the stoptech pads? I’ve had them on for about 10 days now, I did try my best to bed them in even in the rain storm first 4-5 days zero sound now everyday low speeds like stop lights etc I get a squeal that lasts for a second or two. It is starting to get annoying, anyone have these pads and have no issue? Thank you

Contact StopTech, I'm sure they'd offer good advice.

I can say from experience that bedding-in brakes properly is very important.

I've had the same problem, the pads are bad. The dealer resurfaced the rotors and put the stoptechs in, and like a week later they started to squeal. I got them cleaned and lubricated, helps for ~1000 miles, then the squealing will start to come back, although not as much. I'm thinking to now replace the pads, but I'm looking for a brand that wont have the same problem

I’m gonna try re lube them today and see. I’ve already ordered giro disc pads. If it comes back after this Ill swap them. Talked to multiple people that had this issue with these pads and switched to girodisc and the problem was solved but they are not ceramic. Idk. MP-1001

Where are you lubing? The piston to backing plate interface or the backing plate to caliper contact surface?

Are you using generic 1001 size currently, or are you getting the squeal with the pads with the weights?

I installed my Centric pads clean and dry, no lube, and no squeal.

The Centric front pads I used are 105.1001 (no weights)

I use the Hawk hps 5.0 and they are basically fine as well. I will not that on really light breaking, right when you are about to come to a stop, and you back the pressure off, the chirp just for a second, and then when you pull off from a light, and the pressure gets really light they chirp again. however, once the pads heat up they are quiet. they do not squeak though under continuous pressure when stopping or reversing or whatever.

I just put some on the back of the pad and the side. Did nothing. I didn’t install them the first time around so I wanted to take it apart myself and check to see how difficult it would be.. was really simple . I ordered the front pads from k8. One of the passenger pads looked to have trash in the material it self (orange stuff in the pad) I’m not sure if that’s a factor or it’s contaminated. Either way I’ll try the other pads and report back to see if there’s any change if it was a minor squeal I wouldn’t care but it’s happening more often now. It shouldn’t be the drilled and slotted rotors right? Thanks guys

I suppose it could be that particular pad/rotor combo don't play well together.

Brake noise issue with my stoptech pads has been resolved after changing to giro disc magic pads. I'm hopeful :)

Let us know how you like them with more miles.

I installed Powerstop Z26 pads this weekend as a preventive measure. I don't have any rotor issues with 13k miles. Pedal feel is a bit better than stock. No noise whatsoever, no squeals, no clunk from reverse to drive, nothing. I did spray them with disc quiet on the back of the pads and used high temp ceramic lube on the sides where they come in contact with the caliper and all the touch points on the retaining clips.

Are stoptech pads known to make noise? I have pads and rotors just sitting to be installed. I probably shouldn’t have even bought them haha.

awesome and thanks for sharing.

I have been running my pads dry - no lube.
I installed clean and dry. It's always on my mind - -should I have lubed them? - probably.

These images were at around 30,000 kms (19k miles) - they appeared super dry - and Ieft them dry.

At 60,000 kms - I replaced the OEM pads with aftermarket Centric pads - installed clean and dry - no lube. It's probaby a good idea to use some good lube. I will inspect again in the spring.

this next pic was at only 6000kms - appears dry - but I didn't disasseble.

The pads can be noisy and dusty, yes.

Had them on my old Volvo, took them off after a fair amount of trying to bed them properly. I installed EBC Yellows and never had an issue.

I feel like the brake and rotor for the Stinger has been beaten to death. lol Some say change the brake pads and you are good. Some say change both rotor and pads and you are good, then there's, change the pads and do a re-bedding and you are golden.
I got the pads from k8 stinger shop, Stoptech Performance front and rear. I just installed them about two months ago, probably driven a good 500 miles since I installed them, I tried the re-bedding, driving up to 60 and breaking hard a few times. Then taking it for a 40 mile drive and break hard from 70. The vibration is still there it is actually worse when the rotors are more warmed up. I didn't resurface my rotor when I installed the pads. Mavis around my area doesn't turn rotors, they said normally people just change both at the same time. But damn, the rotors are expensive at the k8 shop. front and rear are close to 800. I wish I had that kind of money. But I'm not looking to stop on a hair, just something that will stop the vibration. It's freaking scary especially when I have my kids in the car with me. Anyone knows a good place I can pick up a set of rotors that won't break the bank like 400 - 500 for all four or if anyone in the Long Island, NY area knows a place that can turn the rotors that would be helpful too.

Thanks!

How many miles were on the rotors before you swapped pads? generally you're supposed to resurface the rotor when you buy new pads. Even if you need new rotors they aren't that expensive, you don't need fancy slotted or drilled rotors just get rotors from a well known brand like Ratbestos, Centric, Brembo ect make fine OE style rotors. 2020 KIA STINGER 3.3L V6 Turbocharged Rotor | RockAuto Also the fronts are probably the cause of 99% of the vibrations.
