• PLEASE! It is VERY important that this area is not used for the discussion of technical issues with your Stinger. This section is for posting about regional-specific things like Stinger clubs, events, local vendor or dealer recommendations, KiaStinger.com member sightings, etcetera... In other words, I do NOT want people to need to scour through several different sections to find answers about their heads up display. That's why there's a section dedicated specifically to discussions like that. THANK YOU!

Australia-Specific Kia Stinger Discussion

Spoke to Mornington Vic Kia dealer this arvo and was informed that the fix is a 5 minute fuse change and they suggested to ignore the press and online hype and to keep driving as normal and it is safe to garage the car. If it was as urgent as the press made out (channel 7 )Kia Aust would have made contact immediately.
I'm sure you're right but it is still a little concerning considering your house is attached to your garage. A fuse change sounds good to me. Don't really have much faith in the dealer doing any other repairs to my Stinger. Mine hasn't been back to the dealer in 2 years since my complimentary first service.

The ACCC has put out an advice on it that includes 2 spreadsheets with VIN numbers. My VIN isn't listed but I thought it would have been as the build date is Jan 2018. In fact the spreadsheet only lists one Stinger built Jan 2018.
I contacted KIA Head Office and was told mine is effected. Was also told KIA will be sending out letters over the next two weeks.

Rang my dealer in Bendigo and they have me in Wednesday week to carry out the inspection/ work
That's interesting - I rang my dealer and they had an automated message saying that if calling about the recall, hang up and wait for KIA Australia to contact us. No mention in the message of not parking undercover - so the risk can't be that great.

Haha no way I will trust good ol Kia dealers to carry out electrical work.
No Thank you.

Amazing how quick the media makes a pounding.

I purchased my Kia Stinger GT in Oct 17. The VIN number is not listed in the ACCC spreadsheets or on the KIA recall website where you list the VIN number says no known issue. Also curious what is a KIA Stinger CK? Googled and cant find any info. I will wait a few weeks for a letter and/or call them.

CK is just the series number.
I'm at dealership now for 3yr scheduled service. I've been assured by dealer that my car is not subject to this recall despite what Kia head office told me on Monday. Can't do more than just wait to see if a letter arrives.

Had my MY2019 Stinger booked in for service today & was able to have the recall campaign completed at the same time. Great Western Kia in Penrith had the parts in stock & were very professional!

Two new 25amp fuses replace the original 40amp fuses on a multi-fuse bar in the engine bay. Attached are some photos for other curious Stinger owners showing the new fuses & replacement fuse box cover date stamped Feb 2021. Seems like a neat & efficient plug 'n' play solution to me.

Had my 2018 in for 50,000km service on Friday, no mention of recall, hit the media the following Monday. Honestly not that concerned it’s only an issue if there’s moisture in it. The way I see it the fault has been there since manufacture 3 years ago, been driven through water during flooding, in heavy rain, not to mention the number of washes it’s had and hasn’t caught fire yet. Can’t see it happening any time soon. Media love to hype stuff up but there has not been 1 single case in Australia in the Stinger or the Sportage which was also affected, and the same recall was issued by Hyundai in February for the Tucson also with no cases in Australia. They’re just being cautious because it’s good business to address it this way than wait for things to burn. There’s been a handful in the US in the suv, not sure about Stinger.

On a separate issue, dealer told me they were expecting delivery of 6 2021 models but 5 of them were already sold and would go straight away, they were trying to hold onto the 6th as a demonstrator but weren’t sure they’d be able to. He said they’re starting to see an increase in supply coming back in some models so looks like things might be turning around. Also said most dealers are paying massive overs on trade ins at the moment so might be time to upgrade. I’m not in a position to do it unfortunately.

Good to know, I’ll be there in a couple of weeks for my 50k service.

Agree with you about the recall and as mine has never been wet in the engine bay I really can't envisage an issue. Also its garaged underground where temperatures range room 22-26 all year round with relatively low humidity.
Whilst filling in time at service yesterday I was chatting with a new car salesman about delivery delays and his number one tip was to go through a volume dealer for preferential treatment. He stated there were only 10 meeting the required status in NSW and delivery was usually no more than 3 months. Also stated that where orders were regularly pushed back it was because smaller dealers were price gouging and selling to anyone prepared to pay a higher price, a practice he doesn't condome......an ethical sales guy!

Is your VIN in the recall?
No not in the recall, but good to know they have the parts ready.
I also made sure they have oil filter stock as they were in short supply a month or so ago.

If you write Vicroads an apology letter and mention your past driving record, they may drop the fine but you will still lose the points.
For them, it is all about the money.
I was advised to go to vic.fines. and I’ve put in an apology letter and see what happens.

The recall only involves 1,600 or so Stingers, there is many more Sportages affected.
I rang my service centre and my car is affected in the recall, they said I will be notified shortly to bring the car in but hoping they will have my LH bi motor acuator in and replace it same time.
I’m still parking in the garage, the chance of her going up is slim.
However the chance of her getting Possum poo and Bird crap whilst parked in our driveway would be highly likely ( 90 percent chance ).

My Stinger is staying in the garage as well. Haven't been any cars go up in smoke in Australia apparently.
