LED Reverse Lights

Has anybody swapped out the halogen reverse bulbs for LEDS yet? I know it's a W16W/921 and I saw Walmart has Sylvania 921 LEDs for $15.

Yup, I used LEDs from DeAutoKey.com. Had my entire GLI swapped to LEDs from them. Super bright and can tell a big difference in the backup camera.

I assume access to the reverse lights is in the hatch. Any difficulties?

Instructions to chsnge reverse lights are actually in the manual.

Pop the hatch, pop two covers on each side of the hatch, remove 3 bolts in each side, unclip the wiring harnes for the lights, pull the whole assembly from the back of the car, twist the bulbs to remove, reverse steps to reassemble.

The LEDs were a bit longer than the stock bulbs so I had to pull up some of the foam covering the back of the taillight to get more play in the wiring harness but once the bulbs were in the foam went back to its original position.

I had the dealer swap them out for me. Used 921/T10 sized Philips Ultinon LEDs. They are a little brighter than stock.

I have replaced all halogen bulbs with LED (and HID low beam) in my Sorento, and I had the first set of reverse lamps fail - which I hadn't noticed. So I bought replacements that I am really happy with, and now occasionally check the function of all my lights, either by reversing up to a typical glass-fronted store at night, or putting the car into reverse then turning off the engine.

Which brand did you buy to replace the failed units ? and which license plate bulbs did you use , I tried twice and both bulbs failed on my Sorento plates ?

I think I am going to tackle this in the next couple days and I will take pics of the process. Looking in the owners manual, you have to take out the entire center section of the rear lamp assembly to access the bulbs!

It’s really not hard. 6 bolts and it slides right out, no clips or anything.

Wow , the difference in minimal ! I'll say the drivers side is the LED ? Thanks for posting this and checking for the plate bulbs !! Much apprciated !
