Seeking How To How daunting is the work for lowering springs?

So I have decided to pull the trigger and do this myself. I know it's going to be a pain in the butt. Before I bought this car I rarely did any work on my cars. But ever since buying the stinger and wanting to mod it I have done quite a bit of work. Spark plugs, exhaust, sway bars, intakes and JB4 and other work like dual channel dash cam and interior stuff. I luckily have a friend with a big garage and he is willing to let me keep my car in there on jack stands for however long it takes. I know the rears are a piece of cake so I will do those first. I will have to read up on the fronts as my car is AWD, I am doing this to save money on shop labor so if i mess something up then I just did this for nothing. I was hoping to do this before the end of the year but there is a back order on the Eibachs so I might have to wait until 2021. Any last tips for someone? I'm going to rent a spring compressor from an auto store, are there any other tools I should get from there? I have an electric impact gun. One thing I don't have that I will buy is a torque wrench. Does anyone have a good torque wrench to recommend? Thanks!

Snap-On for the torque wrench. Good on you for rolling up your sleeves and taking on the challenge. I also have a friend with space who is keen to help on projects. Sad thing though the prick sold the house. He knows who he is.

Just looked up Snap-On torque wrench. Hmm. Is a Snap-On torque wrench 10 times better than a Tekton torque wrench? I believe Snap-On tools are really great but $600 for a torque wrench vs $60 for a competitor seems absolutely insane. Maybe if my job was a mechanic I could warrant the price but I'm here trying to stretch this money further so I can spend more on mods haha.

Check post 57 in this thread, you can pull the whole hub off the strut and axle to save yourself some headache with spring compressors, it wont be as bad since you have a lift but you wont damage your axle this way.

Just a Milwaukee impact gun battery powered is good enough for most things. 160 bucks tops

Rent a toqrue wrench from O'reilly's or pony up $100 for a decent one.

There's no need for a home gamer to buy snap-on.

Yeah I plan on buying my own torque wrench. Of course I have never had an issue with just turn it until you can't, unless I'm using leverage then be careful. But I think suspension parts will definitely be smarter to torque to spec rather than under torque or over torque and stretch something that should not stretch.

Bought the Eibach springs 3 weeks ago. I guess there was an issue from Eibach, or the supplier I am buying from. I'm still waiting for a tracking number so I know they shipped it.

Is there any way of getting around installing the front on a rwd without spring compressor?
Not if you want to do it safely. You could take the hub off the car and get the strut out without compressing it but I’m not sure how you’d put the top hat back on the new spring without compressing it. Kind of a mandatory tool to do a spring swap.

A lot of automotive stores will allow you to rent a spring compressor.

So I am finally getting my springs in on Monday and I will start the fun of putting them on the following weekend. So hopefully all goes well!

I just got my springs in today. Still waiting to decide on when to put them on. I will be using 2 jack stands at a time for the rear to start then the fronts afterwards. I'm assuming I need to get the car as high as I can to allow the suspension to lower itself and allow the spring to be pulled out. The rears look easy enough.

Any tips on something I could use to trim the Bump Stop? Will I need a small saw or maybe a sharp utility knife?

Will it be ok to drive the car small distances with different springs in the rear vs front? I'm talking backing up by 20 feet and then driving forward back into a garage.

I used a hack-saw to cut the bump stops. I only trimmed the front's. Not really worth doing the rear ones IMO.

Driving a short distance like that will be totally fine.

So how are people trimming the bump stop on the rears? Do you take out the shock?

Looking to get the springs. Definitely taking to dealer. If have to starve for a few weeks to pay for labour so be it. Any issue its on there dime.

For those in snowy climates any issues with things being lower?

I did the driver side rear yesterday when I had some free time between meetings. And with it being nearly 70 degrees in NC. I'm going to do the other side within the next couple days. The rear was pretty easy. I'm going to need an entire weekend for the fronts. I got quotes for over 2.5 times the cost of the spring so I'm happy if my car is out of action for a couple weeks while I get the work done when I can save over $800. It's also nice to learn more about the platform when you spend so much time working on it. I also will be doing the plugs again which I am dreading.

i got my springs, swaybars and endlinks installed for $500AUD ($385US) which i was pretty happy about. The front springs is what i didnt want to do due to requiring a spring compressor, they would be impossible for me to do without one. Cant believe you were quoted so high, good luck with install!!

Finished my 2 rear springs. If I had to do it again I could probably do both rears in about 20-30 mins each. I think I am going to take off Tuesday to do the fronts, well at least try. In relation to suspension mods, what are some opinions you guys have on replacing the subframe bolts with the thicker ones with collars. $215 dollars for a handful of bolts seem like a lot. What will I be getting out of it?
