Who's copying who? (Stinger vs. Audi A7)

To be honest the new A7 looks a little bit more like the Stinger But I think, the KIA is the perfect combination between the A5 sportback and the A7. If you just look from the side.

If we talk about the rear I think the tail lights are stolen from a charger

Overall I think KIA did a great Job creating the car, and they got help from the the best car companys in Germany (Ex Designer form Audi [Yes he works for KIA now, but still] ; Chassis engeneering by BMW M ; and probably more that I don't name right now)
Io think they could have done without the plastic non functional "light bar" between the lights. Would prefer distinct separation like Maserati. Thankfully they don't light up like the charger!!

I here you , agree with the bar light not lighting up , but I think it "wraps" the ass end " nice and tight" . When I first saw my car from behind it clicked for me .............this is one of of the few cars I've owned that actually looks BETTER in real life than pics . I find new design elements every few days that I like more ....................thats one of the challenges with design , too pretty and easy to like sometimes become boring quickly............. before I got my car I was convinced the side rear reflectors were a mistake or afterthought , but now I see how they actually help elongate the rear and make the car look more "fluid"

Well said. I'm back and forth on the side reflectors.

IMHO, odd they are just reflectors and do not have some aspect of them that lights up. But I like the character of them. Different but not tacky (AKA fake hood scoops! Why don't we just paint a big Thunderbird on the hood and get it over with...).

Honestly, all these design guys get inspired and/or steal.... I mean, borrow, elements from one another. That's the way it is.

I mostly agree bud BUT the rear end side reflectors are quite unique in that legally they are not required ( the rear lowers are ) , there was a lot of thought that went into those being there ................ as for the hood , c'mon at least they look tasteful ..................i forget now do you have a Stinger or are still shopping ??

@westcoastGT, agreed on the treatment of the hood scoops. It's a tad much IMO, but it's not that big of a deal. As for me an my Stinger, it's called a Mazda for now... Gotta save for a while. And uh, wonder if I can justify it to my wife also. She is an anti-spend-ite. And that IS a great thing! I told myself I'd never spend more than $30k on a car, and here I am... So long as I can keep the payment lower than $250 a month for 60 months (yah, I'll be there with saving), I'll likely get the green light, just need to wait until early winter/late fall... Ah!!!

I had exactly the same, you see the car on Pictures and you are like, that's a cool car. But in person it looks soo much better

I got rid of the side reflectors by buying a HiChrome red car. :D

Also, remember that the body designer came from Audi / VW - Peter Schreyer.

I'm embarrassed (not really) to admit this, but I've probably spent at least 3 total hours just looking at it's body since we picked her up just shy of 2 weeks ago. I'm STILL finding previously unnoticed contours and design thru-lines. Robert Guillaume did an outstanding job injecting this basic shape with so much expression and deliberateness. :)

............emotional involvement ..................a key foundation in brand building , looking at that Proceed concept tells me there's still lots of gas in their design tank too !!:thumbup:

So I posted in this thread earlier about the new A7's rear side profile kinda resembling a new Civic sedan. I'm thinking folks might've thought I was trolling, but take a look:

Regarding the side reflectors, I'm seriously considering painting them body colored.

It looks fine , I did mine with vinyl . But after a week I took the vinyl off , somehow they really grew on me and now they are one of my fav design elements ..............if you wanted to try vinyl they have dozens of colors .3M auto vinyl , love to see it !!

First off let me say I absolutely love my new Stinger. But I gotta say, I saw an s7 on the highway today and it is quite the attention grabber. Wouldn’t want that car payment but I would drive the hell out of it if I had one. The whole fastback look in general is one that I find extremely satisfying on a car.

Part of the problem is that if you put something like a fastback car or an airplane wing into a wind tunnel and optimize the drag and down (or up) force, they all come out looking pretty much the same. The days of shiny chrome, big design elements, fins and all that junk are long over. Mother nature determines a lot of the shape.

Do you know the rear side reflector strips?Well, there is a light at the end of the stripand, But not for OZ, again. In the manual it says that it has the fog lights and the light switch lever/arm (turn signal arm) has the switch! But not here in OZ.
If you look closely there is a small rectangle for the fitting ( closer to the rear end) which means one could wire it as an additional turn signal or just a light for night time driving!

Any hatch looks similar to this. That said, the Malibu porpus-like A7 look in the back is very, very similar. Audi created a nice design and others are capitalizing.

Likely going to get flamed on this but given the A7 has been around since 2010 if anybody is copying its KIA. That said, aside from the general layout - 4 doors, hatch, AWD, etc. and the wheels (my least favorite element of the Stinger) I don't see a lot of similarity. The profile of the Audi is more elegant while the Stinger appears more muscular to my eye. I see more similarity in profile between the Stinger and the A5 sportback. And yes there is similarity to Maserati, in a good way.
