FAQ: Vibration under braking: warped rotors? NO!

I did, and I doubt I was the only one...

“Brake shudder” was what I had (tried not to use “warped rotors” or “deposits”), because I really did not know the cause of my car's bad brake behavior (BBB :)).

I went to 401 Dixie Kia and asked them for their assistance in getting rid of the “brake shudder” I was experiencing.
A service advisor took the car for a short drive and came back with the verdict that I needed four new rotors and pads.
I asked if it was OK if I brought my own brake pads. Since there was no problem I proceeded to buy HAWK pads from JRP , South Sheridan Way, Mississauga, 905-822-7223.

The pads were about $250, and the dealer charged about $100 for installation and brake service. The rear pads are KIA’s.
I bedded the pads on South Service Road late at night when there was little or no traffic. 12,000 km later it’s still two thumbs up.
so they installed 4 new rotors, Kia rear pads and your front hawk pads?
why did they charge you install?

Because they acted hassle free?
Because the calipers could use some TLC?
Because rotors and pads (free) are not calipers that require service every now and then?
Because 4 new rotors and rear pads are worth $100 to me?
Because I could not care less if my problem get's solved for a little extra?
If you have to ask what dealership anybody has gone to - why don't you go to the one that sold you the car?

. Uhm wow. I was just asking a question. Remind me to never ask you a question.

Very surprised your rear's are OK with the OEM Kia (brembo) pads.
How many kms do you have on the car?

I have had my rotors replaced 4 times - always all 4 rotors. They never suggest pads - despite me suggesting it was the likely cause.

Each of my visits - I complained about brake pulsations - never "warped rotors". Though I did suggest pad deposits.
Durham Kia never suggested machining. Always full 4 disk replacement, with next to no resistance.

Also - to be very specific.
I complain of brake pulsation.
they test drive - and feel pulsation.
they replace the front rotors and retest.
still feel pulsation.
replace rear rotors.
I go home happy for the next 12k kms (approx)

Someone asked - why not replace with better pads?

I have 42k kms on the car and 60k km warranty on the rotors. Will replace with better/different pads after the 60k

I got tired of that and finally decided to order front&rear EBC Redstuff brake pads to fix that damn problem. Only problem : 6 to 8 weeks delivery ‍♂️

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
31,000 km , replaced @ 19,000 km.

Did you go through the "bedding" procedure every time you received new rotors & pad?
Nope.

I never got new pads. Always complete set of 4 rotors.

Still on my original pads.

Contrary to my expectations, my rears have about 20% life left and my fronts have about 50% left at 42k KMS..

Rotors, new pads and bedding go together.
Unfortunately, dealers do not tell you about bedding the pads.
EBC, maker of rotors & pads has some interesting articles on their website.
If you are interested, you can have a look here:

Four set of rotors is certainly overkill in my opinion.

Yup...

Probably a free 5th set in about 10k KMS (when my car has around 55k KMS)

I am very disappointed that KIA has not updated the pad material as that seems to be the solution for others who have simply swapped the pads with various aftermarket brands.

has anyone installed new stock rotors and EBC pads front and rear?

I'm going to have my front rotors turned and putting gyrodisc front pads(from Nick at Khartunerz.com) next week. Hoping it will fix my random front brake vibration.

My appointment is next thursday. They're fitting in 4 new rotors on the car (warranty work) and they'll install my newly ordered/new received (this morning, actually) set of 4 EBC Redstuff brake pads. I'll give you an update once they'll be properly bedded (2-3 weeks time approximately). I sure hope it fixes the vibration while braking!

www.perfectbrakes.com thru my usual shop. I think he uses keystone as a third party for shipping (by "HE", I'm reffering to the owner, since I know him personally). They're not very expensive, actually : 310$ + taxes total for new pads all around!

Totally reasonable price.

Do the EBC red stuff pads have an edge code written on them?

Like FF, or FG, or GG?
Just curious

Next Thursday! June 18th. 4 new rotors and EBC RedStuff pads. Don't worry, I'll hit you up with my thoughts on the pads as soon as possible ;)

I'm getting new front rotors and will be installing girodisc pads on June 19th, hoping it's the fix.
Done. Problem fixed. Girodisc are smooth and vibration free. Not the initial same bite, but not at all 'grabby' like stock set
