FAQ: Vibration under braking: warped rotors? NO!

Nope no dampers and they work just fine without them.
You just pop them in right out of the box right? I didn’t transfer anything from the old pads to the new, just popped out the retaining pins and spring on each caliper, removed old pads and put in the new ones.

Correct, except I added a thin smear of some ceramic brake lubricant to the back of the pads which I always do, but it's not a requirement just good practice.

Why not swap to more agressive euro pads which should cure the problem?
I don't know why they don't make euro spec pads standard across the board.

Hey guys are these the right giro disc ones? MP-1001-1 (note the -1 at the end)

Getting really tired of the stock issues 2nd time around for me. Cheers

Getting my Stinger to the shop for the 3rd time in 12 months for the same freaking issue all 3 times, next week...freaking warped rotors!! Back in early june '19, they changed all 4 rotors because they were clearly warped. The guy said that the pads were all good and within specs. I told him that if he didn't switch them for something more suited for the brembos, that I'd be back in less than a year for the same problem. He didn't listen, of course, but it was noted in my file (my exact words).

6 months later, november '19, to be precise, getting vibration all over when braking, after the rotors were properly heated...bring my car to the dealership : 2 warped rotors (rear, both)...AGAIN! They installed new ones and told me both in the front were "within specs", same goes for the pads all around...told him the exact same thing I said before (and it's AGAIN in my file, on record) : if he doesn't switch the pads for something more suited for the brembos, that I'd be back in less than a year for the same problem!

Here we are, another 6 months later, exact same fu***** problem, vibration all over when braking after the rotors are properly heated up...getting the car in, next week, for check up. They'll surely end up telling me both front rotors are now warped, will install new ones, AGAIN, they won't touch those weak ass pads, and tell "everything's good, mate! The car's running great! See you in 6 months ;)"

This is so frustrating! I mean, what other option do I have?!? This problem is really bugging me real good...and I'm not even talking about the FREAKING squicky AF panoramic roof...

Spend $100 and buy new front pads. 90% of the time the issue is from the front pads. Change them yourself. Takes hour and a half. I had the same issue. Every 2-3k miles back to the dealer to fix the "warped rotors". Now i'm 5k in to the new pads with brakes that are PERFECT!!!! The pads that KIA used are shit. Get something aftermarket and stop your visits to the dealership.

Yes it sucks that you have to pay out of your own pocket to fix something that KIA should properly address but honestly, $100 and a couple hours of my time is worth more than visits to the dealer every couple months and not having the car for a day. Just my take on it.

I feel like if I do that and the problem isn't 100% fixed and I still get vibration or whatever, then they'll end up not covering the repair...for the moment, I didn't pay them anything for all the work they put in. Everything under warranty...for now!

This entire thread is filled with people saying how the new pads they put on fixed the issue with the "pulsating brakes". You can continue to go to the dealership, that is your decision. Next time you go to the dealership try to push them for a different compound pad. I think there is a eurospec one that doesn't have any issues. Another thing you can do if you don't want to change pads is do a "bed in" of your pads more often to try and burn off the residue from the pads on the rotors.

So everyone has to deal with all the vibrations, poor braking performance & potential rotor damage all for the sake of slightly less brake dust? If this is the Kia rational, then I certainly want nothing to do with such brand.
I tested the euro brembo pads which offer much better bite & pedal feel that i felt was more suitable for the Stinger.

I'm doing a bit of guesswork here but I don't imagine KIA knew that the North American pad/rotor combo would create this many problems. I don't think when they made the decision that they knew it was an issue. The car was developed over the pond so it was probably a last minute decision to run the weaker pads when they shipped to the North American market, which would mean the weaker pads probably didn't have nearly the level of R&D that the Euro pads did.

vibration all over when braking after the rotors are properly heated up...
Ah hah, I see the difference now: I have never "properly heated up" my rotors, and that must be my secret. :D

What I mean by that is after driving for a few minutes (braking normally, just like everyone else usually do). I do get way more vibration when lightly braking on the highway then when I gently brake while driving under 35mph...and if I have to brake intensively, while driving at 60+mph (let's say a Corolla driver didn't feel the need to put his blinkers on or even take look to see if someone's coming through), then it's Marky Mark's "Good Vibration" time...‍smh

Even so, I do wonder, still, if my braking style is significantly different from practically everyone else who claims that they are gentle with their brakes. The more posters on the forum who arrive to complain bitterly about the brakes on the US Stinger, the more I wonder if I am just different; not my car so much.

How many kms do you get between rotor replacements?

I get about 10k to 12k before brake pulsations. (Not sure if warped or pad deposits, I'm leaning towards pad deposits despite what the dealer says)
I suspect the dealer just marks them as failed run-out, in order to get no questions asked for their warranty claim to Kia Canada.

I now have about 42k on the car, and only 2k kms on my 4th set of rotors.

I'm in the same boat as you. If I switch to any non OEM pads, then for sure they will deny any future rotor claims.

On my 4th complete set of rotors (front and rear).

Love the car, hate the brake pads.

Oh my god, dude...that's HORRIBLE. I currently have 32K on the car. I got somewhere in the range of 9000 and 11000 km between rotor changes. Got the car Dec '18, first change was at 11000km on May '19, then second switch somewhere in Nov '19 at 20-21 thousand KM...and now, May '20, at 32000 KM! You're right, we're dealing with the exact same problem and it's starting to really piss me off. I understand your pain, mate!

who in the GTA has had these replaced and which dealer are you going to? are they replacing pads and rotors front and rear. I have the same happening and curious what i'm in store for
thx

who in the GTA has had these replaced

I did, and I doubt I was the only one...

“Brake shudder” was what I had (tried not to use “warped rotors” or “deposits”), because I really did not know the cause of my car's bad brake behavior (BBB :)).

I went to 401 Dixie Kia and asked them for their assistance in getting rid of the “brake shudder” I was experiencing.
A service advisor took the car for a short drive and came back with the verdict that I needed four new rotors and pads.
I asked if it was OK if I brought my own brake pads. Since there was no problem I proceeded to buy HAWK pads from JRP , South Sheridan Way, Mississauga, 905-822-7223.

The pads were about $250, and the dealer charged about $100 for installation and brake service. The rear pads are KIA’s.
I bedded the pads on South Service Road late at night when there was little or no traffic. 12,000 km later it’s still two thumbs up.
